Tom Clancy's The Division

Anyone play the beta? From what I played, it was pretty fun, but seems to be lacking the originality to vault it over other titles. I'm kind of on the fence about getting this, which is pretty disappointing. I have been anticipating this game since Xbox One and PS4 were announced at E3.

Anyone else have any thoughts? Are you picking it up?

I will patiently await hometeam's opinion of Ubisoft :D

Haven't touched it myself but reading online I've heard everything from Destiny killer to disappointment, with what seems like more on the disappointed side. Pretty sure a few people here have played it.

I played it, while it is lightyears ahead of Destiny in most aspects. I just do not see this game with long term playability.

pros: beautiful, the detail in the maps, how you tell a persons level, the intergration, campaign of what little I played.

cons: repetitive, repetitive, repetitive

Once you get the best guns and armor then what? what til expansion? The darkzone is only fun for so long, the only way to make it more intense would be to make the entire server that way. But too many people would grief.

Maybe add faction battles for a map that constantly changes, ala planetside.

Not worth 60dollars, I would buy for 35 new IMO.

Game prices are what they are unless you shop eBay. I liked the beta. Then again I do play repetitive games (Batman, Mad Max, Destiny, etc)

I played beta and enjoyed it. I think getting a fully operational base going will get some perks and talents lit up for you. Also if you noticed, the armor segments had 3 parts to them, the Shooting the life and the tech parts. I think specific higher powered guns with specials on them will require better thought out armor that you buy or keep.

Looking forward to the story a bit more and finding out how the Green death go let out. It is fun to hear the conspiracy theorist on the radio at the safe house in the DZ talk about what happened.

What would be cool is if the DZ could be setup like areas that "clans" or "gangs" could control.

Currently downloading the Beta as its currently free w a PS plus membership. I'm so bored w Destiny ATM. I really only play Trails and its completely seething with tryhards and assholes.

I've played through the closed beta and the open beta. Long term The Division won't be able to complete with Destiny IMO. It will be a nice complement during content droughts though. They also don't seem very comparable at the game level at all.

I agree with most here. I think there is some potential there, and I like the 3rd person shooter/RPG idea. It was pretty repetitive though, and it takes a ton of bullets to take a person out. I think with some significant tweaks it could be a great game, I just doubt they have the time to make those tweaks before release.

I won't say I didn't have fun playing it. I was just hoping for more. I also didn't get to play multiplayer at all, so I'm curious how that was for anyone who played it.

The dark zone was fun but will be totally different after launch. My team knew we didn't have anything to lose so we were rogue all weekend. Chasing kids around the map was more fun than hitting the NPC spawns. After launch we'll be a lot more careful.

Watched plenty of it on twitch this weekend, plus a while back when they had some closed beta as well.

It uses the watch dog engine.. honestly a pretty poor engine in a lot of ways. They also admitted that they nerfed the PC version to be closer to console.. well, so console users dont cry about it.

As for the actual game, I wanted to give it a chance as best I could, having the trepidation I do with Ubisoft.~ And after watching it tons, and NOT playing it I can say this. The gameplay is console shooter even on PC, like they didnt even try. It's full of hacks already. After seeing how the shop/upgrade system works, its my guess is that they will artificially slow gameplay, and every decision they made with regard to itemization, is made in order to push players towards buying currency, RNG boxes, weapons, whatever they can come up with.

Its pretty much an Ubishit game. I predict that it will do about as well as Battlefront that had the same kind of hype surrounding it, and now is completely dead a few months after release.

p.s. - Ubishit is shit.

Damn successful shit. :)

They generally seem more focused on story lines then producing the next, cutting-edge super-game.

Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Myst, Driver, etc all did really ****ing well.

Battlefront was EA, not Ubisoft. Tom Clancy titles are their only major tactical shooters.

McDonalds is successful shit, doesn't make it good~ Ubis is widely consider the WORST AAA publisher, and for good reason. They love to take shortcuts and **** over gamers, and then they feed misinformation to the masses to minimize the impact. They take huge advantage of console players well. ****ing microtransactions to open chests in AC? LOL

And yes, I know Battlefront was EA.. but it was the same type of thing, a bunch of hype, and the game is nearly dead only a few months later. More alive on consoles, but only because the competition is shit.

I'll give you the McDonald's comment hhahaha.

Blame Steam/Valve for that bullshit. Buying skins, chest for skins, etc. They opened the door to kids opening up daddy's wallet and spending hundreds on nothing. Hell, you can buy some of that shit in real life for less than they charge on Steam. Ubi is just following suit to reap in big-time $$$.

Most games these days are re-hashed, re-skinned, same old shit. Until Valve releases the next big physics engine, I see little that will change in the gaming industry. And speaking of that, look at how many re-hashes there basically are built on the Source 2 Engine.

Ubi does appeal much more to console gaming because they dont' have a shitload of multiplayer titles that are truly playable as multiplayer games.

The only titles of their's I play is Assassin's Creed and Far Cry. I like the story lines of those, even though both are very much re-hashed from a game play perspective. However, after the 2nd installment of each, I waited years for them to drop under $20 to play them. I'm not about to spend $60+ on re-hashing of titles. I payed less than $10 for each of Brotherhood, Revelations, and III in the AC series and haven't even bought the rest of them yet, although I'm sure I'll dump $20 into buying the rest of them in due time just to finish the story sequence.

I don't just blame Ubi, I think the industry as a whole has been lazier over the past 10 years.
