Marvel's Iceman is gay.

Not like everyone knows he's a shitty character.....like he's been outed as a homosexual.

Marvel’s X-Men has always been known for tackling some of the most important human rights issues of the day, the most recent of which is gay rights; the first few movies from the current string of movies worked as a metaphor for gay rights, with mutants being told that they weren’t “natural” and being offered a cure for their “illness.” Now, the new issue of All New X-Men has revealed that one of the founders of the titular team of superheroes – Bobby Drake, aka Iceman – is gay.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, lead writer on the series Brian Michael Bendis has said that there are millions of stories that could be told about people either confronting or hiding their sexuality, and that the X-Men series was a good way to examine such stories. He also noted that this is only the beginning of a larger story that will unfold across several more issues of All New X-Men.

“There are thousands, if not millions, of stories of people who, for many different reasons, felt the need to hide their sexuality. The X-Men, with the conceit of time travel, give us a fascinating platform in which to examine such personal journeys. This is just the first little chapter of a much larger story that will be told.”

However, Bendis has also said that he didn’t want to make sensationalist headlines, particularly negative ones, saying he just wanted the issue to come out and be enjoyed.

This new storyline deviates from both the comic’s original run and the plotline developed for the X-Men film series, which set up a story of a relationship between Iceman and the female character Rogue. In the time-twisting issue of All-New X-Men, Jean Grey – the X-Men’s resident telepath – travels back in time and reads the mind of a young Iceman, revealing that he was gay when he was a teenager. She later returns to present day to alert the older Iceman of her discovery.

The Iceman news comes after Marvel has announced several changes to its canonical characters in an attempt to make its comic books more accessible to a new generation of readers. Previously, the company gave a woman the power and name of Thor, gave the black Sam Wilson the mantel of Captain America, and made a Muslim teenager the new Ms. Marvel.

The new issue of All New X-Men is currently available in all comic book retailers.

So why exactly would Jean-Grey need to alert the older Iceman that he's gay? This isn't shit that you think about and then put it in the back of your mind and move on with life. Wouldn't he ****ing know that he's gay?

Seems like a good reason for time travel.

"Hey! I don't know how to put this, but you're gay!"

The newest writers are the only gays in play and they've completely ****ed up the comics with their stupid liberal (redundant, I know) shit.

Marvel's Iceman is gay.

If I'm reading that correctly, the writers seem to be implying that one could simply choose to be gay.

"I'm shocked you weren't gay when you were a teenager"

That's what it seemed like to me too. Very odd if trying to promote awareness.

Theonly way that this makes sense to me is this: Ice Man was always a closeted gay guy. As a young man he chose to stay in the closet and build a fake hetero persona. Jean Grey realizes this during a time travel trip and, when she returns, alerts Ice Man that she has discovered his secret and asks him what he wants to do from that point. So of course he comes out of the closet with lots of drama because this is a comic book.

Maybe they can find a way to have a crossover comic between gay Iceman and Thor with tits. While they're at it, they could reverse themselves about Morales, the already faux-Spiderman, being gay. Lesbian Bat girl is a DC chick, but Marvel could toss in a pink Easter egg. Maybe Batman and Robin could have a roll in the hay to complete the Easter egg set, or maybe they could also add a bisexual Wonder Woman.

Or, maybe, and this is just a wild thought, maybe these assholes could stop ****ing up the iconic characters in comics and try creating new gay characters and super tough chicks from scratch, and let them succeed or fail on their own.

They should make mr. sabretooth a guy who is into bestiality and someone else a transgender

This isn't exactly accurate. Jean Grey doesn't travel back in time (nobody does, this story concerns the original X-Men who were brought from the past to the present day 40 issues ago), and she doesn't alert the older Iceman of anything. Adult Iceman doesn't even appear in the comic.

I think there's something going on, that the time-displaced original X-Men are actually from a different universe or something. Because prior to this, young Jean has manifested powers that she never had in the main continuity, and young Angel now has some kind of glowing power wings he got in a GOTG crossover I didn't read.

Top Gun's Iceman was gay too. Coincidence?

Brock 04-22-2015 07:38 PM

First with the global warming and now with the gay, these are rough times for Iceman.
