The NFL has done lost it's mind!
NFL has considered widening the playing field 35 feet, and reportedly may revisit the idea

This had better never happen, my God when are they going to quit tinkering with everything.
We need Dorner to take Goodell out. |
Well if this occurs...I won't have to worry about unemployment.
|
The can do that in some places but not across the board. LOL.

Endorsed by Maker's Mark.

Goodell is ruining football
|
I can't even imagine how many INTs Cassel would throw if this happened. Poor guy wouldn't be able to throw the ball away.
|
Arena league. Fans will be right on top of players benches. No nothing could possibly go wrong with this idea, especially when playing at Chokeland or Philly.
|
Canadian Football League bring back Doug Flutie or Warren Moon
|
wouldnt a wider field lead to db's having more time to get to full running speed to hit someone? increasing injury?
|
Christ almighty, Cassel will might be able to fool another team.

Imagine the Pick Sixes Cassel could throw up while Dexter lays on the ground
|
I would rather the offensive players get a running head start.
|
How much more bad turf can we show on TV?!
|
WRs, Speed RBs & Big armed QBs would have to be licking their chops.
|
Die defense Die!
|
A guy gets popped in the noggin and it takes longer to drag him to the sideline. Dangerous.

This is fascinating. What impacts would it have? My initial thinking is the following:
1. Everybody would get smaller. This change would place more emphasis on speed, so everyone on the field would get smaller to gain that speed. 2. The market for speed would get bigger among running backs and linebackers. 3. The market for shiftiness would get bigger among WRs and DBs. They're already playing out on the edge, so they'd have more space to operate. Increasing their speed wouldn't matter so much, but increasing their ability to work in space would be important. 4. Cannon-armed quarterbacks would be at a premium. You'd have to throw the ball 3 or 5 yards further just for a WR screen, and it would increase with deeper routes. Arm strength and velocity would become more important. 5. Running quarterbacks would go wild. 6. Would the hash marks get wider? That would place a premium on kicker accuracy over kicker range, and we'd probably see fewer long field goals. 7. Returns would be much shorter because kickers and punters could make returners run all over the field to get the ball. However, the returners would become much faster, so you might end up seeing more short returns and more touchdowns. Wait. Did I just describe the CFL? Did I just waste that three minutes? |
Might as well have 12 guys on the field. This is just stupid. I'm sick of Goodell thinking of stupid ways to change the game. Football was better before Goodell. Not that its bad now, but he's done more harm than good with the league.

I think if they're going to screw with the basic dimensions of the field, they should just go ahead and add hills and water traps too.

The more area a defense has to defend, the easier it is to attack. With a wider field, weak-armed QBs can put more air under the ball. |

Cassel can't get any more air under his throws he's ****ed

Don't think it could ever happen. They would probably have to redesign a lot of the stadiums or else the players would literally be backed up right againts the stands like an Arena League game.
|
NFL stadiums should become like MLB. Every stadium should have different field sizes and dimensions.
|
I've got a better idea... lets make the field diamond shaped, and we'll have one offensive guy stand on plate that we'll call "homeplate", then he will swing a wooden stick at a football thrown at him by a "pitcher".
Except the football is now perfectly round and smaller, so when the O guy hits the ball with the stick he will have to run around 3 "bases" without letting a guy with the ball touch him. I smell a winner here guys, i'm going to flesh this out a little more and send it to Goodell. |

200 point games or bust!
Good thing Ray Ray retired.. He was having trouble covering his 5 yards as it was, he'd need a hover round on a bigger field. I guess Philli fans will be able to pee down the backs of their favorite players instead of wing batteries at them. It's a shame that giant vagina in chocolateville douched instead of swallowed. |

To all nay-sayers of this idea, I counter by saying "Yay!" as this would result in a huge economic boost with more jobs being created as die-hards in electric football leagues around the world would need to buy correctly-sized playing fields.

Horrible idea!

Goodell is now a person of interest...

The game of football was not conceived to have a four monsters who weighed 250 lbs at 6 ft 4 running 4.5 forty times playing linebacker behind three 310 lb minimum lineman going against another five 320 pound OLs.
The players have gotten bigger. Expanding the field a mere 35 feet is pretty reasonable. And as someone who follows the CFL pretty closely (And let me say, the field is a lot more than 35 feet wider...), I can say that concussions, while still an ever present threat due to the nature of the game, occur with far less regularity or severity than they do in the NFL or NHL. Another way to reduce concussions would be to allow DBs to play more physical on opposing WRs at the line, but we know everyone loves offense too much for that to happen. |
Why would you want to tinker with the best sport on the planet by far? I simply do not understand.
|
I would support different value field goals based on distance before bigger fields.

In a stadium like Arrowhead there would hardly be any room left on the sidelines. The crowd is pretty much already on the field as is. At least compared to other stadiums where the crowd is 25 yards from the action.
