BlueJays about to get Josh Johnson Buerhle and Reyes

Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi

Source: #BlueJays on verge of acquiring Josh Johnson from #Marlins. Deal could be even larger than that.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal

Buerhle headed to #BlueJays along with Josh Johnson, sources tell me and @jonmorosi.

Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi

One source tells me Jose Reyes is expected to go to Toronto, as well. This is not a joke.

ShowtimeSBMVP 11-13-2012 05:18 PM

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal

Yunel Escobar and Hechavarria part of package going from #BlueJays to #Marlins. Monster deal.

CaliforniaChief 11-13-2012 05:31 PM

Good Lord. Are the Marlins throwing in South Beach in the deal?

ShowtimeSBMVP 11-13-2012 05:31 PM

Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi

One source told me Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Buck and Bonifacio are all going to #BlueJays. I am working to confirm this. @MLBONFOX

The Marlins are getting a huge helping of salary relief so the owner can keep filling his pockets.

ShowtimeSBMVP 11-13-2012 05:32 PM

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal

Confirmed: Reyes going to #BlueJays. Henderson Alvarez also going to #Marlins.

ShowtimeSBMVP 11-13-2012 05:33 PM

Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN

The Blue Jays-Marlins trade is done... This is going to be one of the all-timers, with Reyes, Johnson, Bonifacio, Buck, Buehrle...holy crow.

mr. tegu 11-13-2012 05:34 PM

Wow! The Marlins rebuild every other year!

ShowtimeSBMVP 11-13-2012 05:36 PM

Tom ‏@Haudricourt

So, Marlins get all that public money go build new ballpark, then sell off the entire club, bit by bit. Nice management team.

**** the Taxpayer

The Poz 11-13-2012 05:41 PM

Fantastic!
Go Jays!

ShowtimeSBMVP 11-13-2012 05:46 PM

Talk about screwing over the Marlins. Adeny Hechavarria is solid but the rest suck. Escobar is garbage.

Nightfyre 11-13-2012 05:55 PM

Why couldn't the Royals have swung a deal for Josh Johnson again?

The answer can be found in your question...

Marlins take payroll from 100m to the teens or low twenties....that didn't take long

LMAO

Comment from Giancarlo Stanton (@Giancarlo818) : "Alright, I'm pissed off!!! Plain & Simple"

SPchief 11-13-2012 06:06 PM

Currently the Marlins have a payroll of aprox. $16 Million.

BlackHelicopters 11-13-2012 06:11 PM

Toronto got better and poorer.

Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN

Massive deal is in the works, but you would assume MLB is going to take a hard look because of long-term ramifications for MIA market.

The Poz 11-13-2012 06:16 PM

Reyes, Bonifacio, Gose & Davis? How many bases will the Jays swipe next season?

Asked official with one of clubs if he has any concern that commissioner might kill the deal. His response: "None at all."

The Marlins got $409M in public funding (on false pretense) that will cost the city $2.4 BILLION to pay off. #jail #fraud

Titty Meat 11-13-2012 07:09 PM

Nothing will happen. LOL the taxpayers are so ****ing stupid both in Miami and Kansas City.

The Poz 11-13-2012 07:09 PM

Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun reports that Jeff Mathis will be part of the megadeal with the Marlins.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Juan C. Rodriguez says the Marlins will also get pitching prospect Anthony DeSclafani. It appears that they are the final two players the Fish will receive in addition to Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, Jake Marisnick and Justin Nicolino. Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buerhle, Emilio Bonifacio and John Buck are headed to Toronto along with a reported $4 million in a deal that could be finalized later Tuesday.

Three7s 11-13-2012 07:11 PM

David Glass' response to the following:

David Glass: YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! Secretary, get Dayton on the phone NOW!

Dayton Moore: You called, sir?

David Glass: Did you just see the news of the latest trade?

Dayton Moore: I believe so. It's hard to believe any franchise could give up so much, isn't it?

David Glass: You bet it is, but that's the beauty of it! Could you imagine if we could unload Butler, Gordon, and all the other high-priced guys we got? We'd be rolling in dough!

Dayton Moore: But sir, that would make our team even worse than it is now, plus we're already doing that, just not as extravagantly as the Marlins.

David Glass: EXACTLY! I won't accept having another franchise cheaper than ours. Work a trade to get rid of the three highest paid guys we got for more minor league prospects. DO IT NOW!

Any Royals fan knows this will come across his mind.

Just another example of why it is absolutely insane and borderline criminal for local tax payers to provide stadium funding for pro teams.

I am the opposite of a big government guy, but Congress really should look deeper into these situations.

That will never happen because most voters are stupid and truly believe the teams will leave town.

bricks 11-13-2012 09:32 PM

Wow is this true?

Holy crap. I'm stoked.

I live in T.O. And haven't seen a competitive team in years. If this trade comes through they have a really good chance to compete next year. I think this trade addresses a good majority of their team needs.

But now you have to refer to your team as the Toronto Marlins.

Yeah, that shit needs to be outlawed.. I would give Obama a pass, if he decided to pass some ridiculous law that took away franchises from owners that took taxpayer money for stadiums and are not fielding a competitive team and reaping in money from others and gave the team to the city/board to run ala Green Bay for baseball and football..

I am sure it will be ****ed up, but not as bad as it is now for some owners..

Reyes
Bonafacio
Bautista
Encarnacion
Lawrie
Rasmus
Lind
Arencibia
Gose

Johnson
Morrow
Beuhrle
Romero
Happ

Call them the Maricons, they're light years better than any team the Jays have fielded in the last decade

The Jays still need to add a bat if they want to be as good as the 2008 team. Lind and Gose are black holes that need to be improved upon (or at least platooned).

Doesn't matter who Jays get, it's the same bullshit. I live here so I know exactly how it is, everyone just hops on in the off season and hypes it up, everyone goes to the first few games then completely give up on the team. Same shit every year with this team, they can't compete with the Yankees.

Yankees are old, the Sox are in a bridge year, I dont see Baltimore repeating last years Cinderella season. This year its Tampa and Toronto's time to fight it out.

I get all of that, Toronto is just a bad place to play especially in the MLB. The fans here are fake and don't support the team enough and the media constantly causes problems.

The last time the Jays were this aggressive in the off-season they won the WS. The only reason Toronto fans have been optimistic between then and now is that there hasn't been a hope in hell for the Leafs or Raptors. AA is addressing the Jays needs and I'm sure he isn't done yet. Look for either Arencebia or Buck to get traded (and hopefully Lind). Another pitcher and a fist baseman would do the trick.

Leafs are a ****ing mess. Burke is the worst GM in the NHL, he loves american players and there's not one player from Ontario on this team. Raptors are just as bad, the GM constantly loves to draft europeans and division 2 no names.
