Betancourt is a poor player, his upside being replacement level.

Gio is a weak defender as well. I'll gladly take a backup, utility infielder who can hit 15-20 HRs.

We may well have complete shit at 2B. If he's slightly less shitty, it's worth having him on the team.

Glove first? WTF?

There's always a glove that we could acquire. I'd rather have this than 15 HRs, shit defense, and woeful OBP.

When our backup infielder is a guy who led our team in HRs two years ago and started for a division winner last year, I can't find fault with that.

When our "potential starting 2B" is a complete piece of shit, I have problems with that. And the fact that another team was dumb enough to start him is irrelevant.

The numbers don't lie. If DM wants to stash him on the bench (Why? Good question.), fine, but potentially starting is a whole new level of dumb.

Yuni starting, Salvy recovering, and Soria hurting?

We are not snakebitten. We are not snakebitten. We are not snakebitten.

The 2012 season isn't shaping up so well.

Pena is serviceable, and it's not like we haven't had one exceptionally shitty infielder before. Oh, hey, his name was Yuni, too. Huh. And our bullpen is still stacked.

Anyway, the starting staff will ultimately make or break this year.

We have multiple shitty starting infielders so I am used to it. I just don't like having Soria with arm issues and the young catcher be injured.

CaliforniaChief 03-18-2012 10:44 PM

If Soria isn't good to go, I'd like to see Holland get the shot to close with Broxton setting up. I just watched too many Dodgers games to trust Broxton.

Multiple? Hosmer and Allseedeez are potential Gold Glover winners, and Moose isn't a butcher.

Hell, with a healthy Perez and a competent 2B, the Royals would have one of the best infields in the league.

Soria is done. Should have traded him a couple of years ago, as many advocated, but it's understandable to hang on to a player who was A.) inexpensive and B.) ****ing dominant for several years.

I am pretty sure Cain is going to be awesome this year

If Cain and Myers end up being the goods, Starling could become one hell of a huge trade chip if we're in need of a single, proven piece to get over the hump in the next couple of seasons.

tk13 03-18-2012 10:53 PM

If Starling becomes what he's supposed to become... you trade Cain and bring up Starling. An OF of Gordon/Starling/Myers would very likely be the best OF in baseball if they all lived up to their potential.

Shit I meant to say "Have had". Not this year.... 2nd base looks like the only one that is questionable.
