I dunno. It happens in pretty much all of the niche threads (soccer, baseball, specific teams, etc.). I don't really understand it myself.

God, I can't wait to get this going. These past few weeks (lockout over, new GM/coach) have been like mouthwash for the nastiness that has been the lockout and the Chiefs shitty season.

Yep - seems that way. It'll be a little sad to never see any of the Eastern-conference teams, but it makes sense to me to focus in on the in-conference teams.

We might see the Avs play one non-conference team.

I kinda like the shortened season. It should be this way every year.

I think with a 48 game schedule, it is smart to play just conference games. Get a truer conference champ.

In looking at the Avs' schedule, it looks like they went with this general structure:

48 total games
Divisional teams - 4 games (against two teams) or 5 games (against two teams)
Conference teams - 3 games
Non-conference teams - none

It's a little odd to have so many unbalanced matchups in terms of home team, but probably nothing they could've done about that.

So what wonderful way will the Blues choke this year? They are the Chiefs of the NFL after all.

I have never been to an NHL game and I don't know how many opportunities I will have seeing as how Phoenix doesn't have a stable NHL team. Might have to get to a game.

It's fun. Ton of energy compared to NBA games. Then again I just go to Nets games.

Hope they show games on tv and make it relevant again.

I use to try to keep up with it but they never seem to show much games anymore even before the lock out. I couldn't name one player in todays hockey.

Going to a hockey game is on my list of things to do.

NHL is on tv all the time, its just not on ESPN. Its on alot on the new NBC Sports Network.

Hopefully the Kings can repeat. Already managed to flip Westgarth for picks AND a player somehow.

GameCenter and Center Ice will be $50... IIRC, it's about half off per game from last season.

I think my desire to watch the Avalanche and the NHL in general will win out over principle, even with 10 nationally televised Avalanche games.

I'm turning over to the Avs game for now. In case people haven't figured it out, DirecTV (and probably others) have Center Ice on a free trial at the moment, so all games are open.

I've heard Center Ice is much better with DirecTV... it's barely watchable at times on cable, and hardly any of the games are in HD. GameCenter and practically the entire nhl.com site is down though, so it's better than nothing.

Good start for the Devils. Always hard to rebound in any sport after losing in the finals. Add to that the lose of one of the best players on the team and the shortened season(and resulting additional value to a fast start).

Wasn't really tested in the 1st... didn't have much of a chance on the two goals and he's been standing on his head in the past several minutes to keep it at 2-1.

And now it's 3-1... Wild had a PP on a double minor and then almost 2 full minutes of 5 on 3. :shake:

I'd like to start watching hockey; but I have zero clue on the rules; icing, off sides etc

Off Sides - You can't enter the offensive zone (pass the blue line) before the puck crosses the line. Even if you have control of the puck

Icing - When the puck his hit from the defensive side of the rink (so anything beyond the center line) across the goal line (the line that lines up with the front of the goal). It can be waived off if an offensive player could have played the puck, or if the goalie makes a move for the puck, or if it is actually on goal.
