???

It's the Tommy John surgery of the NFL. Guys don't just return somewhat diminished after it's done any more, they come back BETTER.

Bust that knee!

EDIT: Shit, way ahead of me!

I'm relieved to say that Jamaal's season average is now back above 5.0, and has actually leapt to 5.4. It's still well below his career average, but higher than the career average of EVERY OTHER RUNNING BACK WHO HAS EVER PLAYED IN THE NFL.

Pasta Little Brioni 12-24-2012 01:09 PM

But, but, but he's Tatum Bell/Slappy

Ceej 12-24-2012 01:10 PM

I'd **** him.

The history of 1,000 yard rushers with the Chiefs:

Code:

Rank  Player    Year  Rushes  Yards  TDs  Average
1        Larry Johnson        2006        416        1789        17        4.3
2        Larry Johnson        2005  336        1750        20        5.2
3        Priest Holmes        2002  313        1615        21        5.2
4        Priest Holmes        2001  327        1555        8        4.8
5        Christian Okoye        1989  370        1480        12        4.0
6        Jamaal Charles        2010        230        1467        5        6.4
7        Jamaal Charles        2012        271        1456        5        5.4 (with one game to go)
8        Priest Holmes        2003 320        1420        27        4.4
9        Joe Delaney        1981 234        1121        3        4.8
10        Jamaal Charles        2009        190        1120        7        5.9
11        Mike Garrett        1967  236        1087        9        4.6
12        Tony Reed                1978        206        1053        5        5.1
13        Abner Haynes        1962 221        1049        13        4.7
14        Christian Okoye        1991 225        1031        9        4.6
15        Barry Word                1990        204        1015        4        5.0

I must say, I'm pretty impressed with Tony Reed averaging 5.1 ypc in 1978. Those teams were terrible. And then it puts Jamaal's performance this year into perspective.

It's starting to become a legitimate debate.

For the time being, I think Brown still wins it. He played 9 seasons while Charles only has 5 under his belt so far, and Brown was used more heavily. He has more than triple the number of rushes while playing in less than twice as many games, and also played in an era where defenses were more geared against the rush and blocking rules were more strict. (I think you could also tackle a guy by the face mask in those days.)

However, let's revisit this in three more seasons. Charles is quietly putting together one of the finest NFL careers ever. His yards per carry is so much better than anyone else's that it's almost unbelievable.

Wait until he's sharing a backfield with Geno...

A guy to keep defenses honest and safeties out of the box is all Charles needs to bust Dickerson's record wide open.

Rain Man 12-24-2012 01:51 PM

So if we need something to root for, 100 yards will give Jamaal the 4th-highest single-season rushing yards in team history, and 160 will get him up to 3rd. He needs 334 yards in to move into the #1 spot, though Larry Johnson had 145 more carries.

TribalElder 12-24-2012 01:54 PM

He better win the FedEx ground player award this week or that shit is fixed

FEDEX GROUND -- RUNNING BACK NOMINEES

Jamaal Charles, Kansas City ChiefsCharles gained 226 yards on 22 carries averaging 10.3 yards per carry and one touchdown in the Chiefs' 20-13 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Ray Rice, Baltimore RavensRice rushed for 107 yards on 24 carries in the Ravens' 33-14 win over the New York Giants.

C.J. Spiller, Buffalo BillsSpiller tallied 138 yards on 22 carries in the Bills' 24-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Jamaal had 200+ yards on 22 carries. LMAO! how could he not win

No kidding, get a couple of speedy WR's that can catch the ball with a good TE & a possession WR, Charles can pick his traffic lanes to fly on.:drool:

Reaper16 12-24-2012 02:02 PM

Fun fact: Jamaal is in sole possession of 2nd place all-time in runs of 80+ yards. He's got 4, no one else has more than 3 except for Chris Jonson's 6.

One w/o the other is virtually worthless. If the opposing defense knows what you're going to do pre-snap, you'll fail more often than not. YES, a premier QB is more important than a premier HB. However, w/o balance to the offense, defenses with key to your strength and force you to beat them with your weakness (aka limiting Charles and forcing Casshole / Quinn to beat you).

If this current offense had a legitimate QB and possibly another receiving threat opposite Bowe, they'd be damn near impossible to stop.

No way man!! Should go to Knowshon for running for 3.5 YPC against a 6 man box and safeties 20 yards off the ball.
