Star Wars: Episode VIII' Sets Director

UPDATED: "Looper" director Rian Johnson will direct the second new film and write a treatment for the third.

The Looper director is in talks with Lucasfilm to write and direct the next Star Wars film, Episode VIII, according to sources.

Contrary to reports that he will be directing the next two Star Wars film, Johnson will direct only Episode VIII, but he is writing a treatment for Episode IX.

Ram Bergman will produce Episode VIII.

Johnson has directed three feature films. His directorial debut, Brick, won the Special Jury Prize for Originality of Vision at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. He followed that up with 2008's Brothers Bloom and 2012's time-jumping sci-fi action-drama Looper, starring Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Johnson, repped by CAA and Lichter Grossman, also directed three episodes of AMC's hit series Breaking Bad.


J.J. Abrams is directing the first new film, Star Wars: Episode VII, which currently is shooting. However, according to Philly, "Star Wars bosses," have denied the reports that have suggested that director J.J. Abrams is expanding actor Oscar Isaac's role in Episode VII, despite Harrison Ford's on-set injury that put him in rehab.

A representative for Disney denied the rumor about Isaac's role being expanded, stating: "This is categorically not true."

However, a recent report from This Is Infamous contradicts Luke's disappearance of 30 years. The site claims he has only been missing for the past 10 years. The earlier 20 years were spent rebuilding the Jedi Order after "Return of the Jedi." It is within this duration that Luke Skywalker's command of The Force reportedly got stronger. Smells like bullshit. You can't have a character that powerful in Star Wars. It would punch too many holes in the plot. There's zero story if Luke can just take out the bad guys with a wave of his hand. There's also no story if he turns to the Dark Side because uh, that sounds like game over for the good guys.

Kind of what I thought. Move mountains with a glance? Nah.

I guess I can buy that he became very powerful and feared he would lose control so he sought shelter on Dagobah, but god-like? That might be a bit much.

Revan was almost there. Why not Luke? Oh nvm you need both sides of the Force or suck the force right out of entire planets. My b.

If darksiders realized that the channeling of the force through one or two powerful users was one key to greater power, it is not entirely impossible that the same atribute could apply to Skywalker.
