New England and wideout Julian Edelman have reached an agreement on a multiyear contract extension, a source informed of the agreement between the two sides told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. It's a two-year deal worth $11 million with $9 million in total guarantees, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. Garafolo adds the deal comes with a $5 million signing bonus and an addition $4 million Edelman can earn in incentives.

What do you guys really think Edelman would demand on the open market?

What do you honestly think he'd produce on another team?

RealSNR 06-09-2017 09:12 AM

An enormous percentage of that is guaranteed money, but when the price and the years on the deal are that low, and you're getting the known production that Edelman is to the Patriots, who gives a **** about the guaranteed money? What are you going to do? Cut him and his measly $5.5 million AAV? He's going to play to the life of the contract anyway, so it wouldn't even matter if you made ALL of it guaranteed.

Then there's the whole Patriot player shit. He plays really well for them. He's exactly what they need. If they chose not to extend him, a team would have paid for the production they saw and probably more if the market for WRs were bad that year. A team like Cleveland, Carolina, LA Rams, etc. would have potentially given him Maclin money. And then of course he wouldn't have produced for them like he did for the Patriots.

Remember that year when Kenbrell ****ing Thompkins was their #1 WR? I think every team needs to go through one of those years. Develop the shit you have, cut what doesn't work, and then build up from there. That's what we're doing with cutting Maclin, so I think we'll be in good position eventually for deals like this. You just have to eat shit for a little bit.

Nothing. He will be gone after this year when Brady is over.

thats great and all but the Chiefs need to start winning some playoffs games to get a developed in house WR that is good for 80-90 catches to be loyal for a 2 year 11 million deal.

It literally doesnt happen with any team around the league other than Patriots.

so develop all you want, when those players get good they will command top dollar. Tyreek Hill aint stickimg around for no 2 years 11 million on the Chiefs. He will get really good, he command 50+ million

Let's face it, only a handful of QBs around the NFL could really use Edelman. You need a highly accurate QB to make best use of him. He's lightning quick, but not a burner and doesn't exactly have much of a catch radius.

If you can hit him in stride, hit him low and otherwise to help him avoid getting massacred by LBs and safeties, and really put the ball on the spot, he's ridiculous. But if you're, whoever, Cam Newton, it probably isn't going to be work out well for the team or Edelman.

Hill is more like Brandon Cooks, and he isn't staying iwth the Pats for 2 years, $11 mill after his current deal is up either.

Part of hte issue here is that Edelman's particular skill set is PERFECT for Tom Brady, and not that many other QBs around the NFL.

Red Dawg 06-09-2017 10:08 AM

The Brady effect will soon be over as is the Manning effect for Denver when getting FA to sign cheap and keeping players for peanuts.

Do NE players realize that money pays bills and not wins? Apparently not. Do they know Brady will be 40 in August? Apparently not. Do they know that Bill has numerous losing seasons before lucking into Brady? I guess they are not that informed.

More than $11m on2 years.

Depends on the team but not very much. He's probably a 40-60 catch guy with any QB outside the top 5.

More proof that QB has complete control of WR production unless they are a transcendent talent like Megatron, Julio Jones, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, etc..

Rain Man 06-09-2017 11:33 AM

I thought "Julian Edelman" was just a nickname for Wes Welker. They're different people?

The Jewish Welker.

Jewker, if you will.

Even then, QB is king.

Remember those Moss years in Oakland? He didn't do shit there, left for New England and promptly set the single season TD record.
