Yeah. That looks scary. I think the trailer might have been enough for me.

I liked the fact that’s its basically an entire scene or two. Most trailers today are cut so fast, 2 seconds of film, cut….2 seconds of film…cut. Etc……

Deberg_1990 04-03-2013 05:42 PM

New trailer. this looks fantastic

Rated R because its too scary. LOL never watching this.

Rausch 04-04-2013 07:05 AM

Meh...

Lzen 04-04-2013 09:31 AM

That looks pretty good. Horror movies these days don't scare me much. They're often too predictable. But this one may have potential. Based on a true story, eh?

Well, thats highly questionable, but the main couple in the film are real paranormal investigators. Probably their most well known investigation was the Amityville case, but that was proven a fraud.

Baby Lee 04-04-2013 11:41 AM

Didn't help in the least that, when I watched the second trailer, I had a cup with a straw in it on my desk. Halfway through the trailer, the straw slides from one side of the cup lip to the other, under motives I have no idea as to their source.

I do dig the investigator lady, she's the mom in Bates Motel.

Fair enough. I thought Insidious particularly was laughable. And, BTW, I LOVE horror and haunting movies.

Lzen 04-04-2013 05:17 PM

First Saw was great. To many sequels after that. What are they up to now? Saw 12?

Haven't seen insidious but it looks lame. Poltergeist rip off?

Sassy Squatch 04-04-2013 05:20 PM

Darth Maul is in Insidious.

This guy only directed the first Saw. No Saw movies after that.

Insidious was awesome. It was sort of like Poltergeist i guess. haunted house movie. Its on Netflix instant.

Sorter 04-04-2013 09:02 PM

Looks scary.

Insidious seemed like the product of a room full of frat guys spouting sentences that started with "Dude, wouldn't it be scary if..."

IMO it had no real imagination and nothing at stake since you don't give a shit about the characters. I didn't care for Saw, but Insidious was MUCH worse.

That said, this looks scary. I've just been burned before.

BigMeatballDave 04-05-2013 06:15 AM

Looks creepy as hell.

I'm not a big fan of horror because they aren't scary.

This looks scary.

HC: I heard you mention that the MPAA gave the film an R rating, but when you asked what you could cut to get a PG-13, they said nothing, that “The Conjuring” was just too scary. That had to be a little unexpected.

JW: It’s just one of those things. It’s not a violent film, not by a long shot, certainly not as violent as some action films that get PG-13. It’s not gory. I was surprised that I got the R rating. But I guess certain things you can’t change. They felt the movie felt too adult. I think that’s a good thing. This is the biggest compliment I can take away from it — I didn’t make a teenage horror film, I made an adult horror movie. And they don’t make adult horror movies anymore.

I feel you. you ARE a fan of scary movies....but just the ones that are ACTUALLY scary!
it's like going to see a comedy that doesn't make you laugh. most horror movies these days just suck.

Deberg_1990 07-18-2013 10:00 PM

Opens tomorrow. Getting outstanding reviews. 84% on RT so far

Saw the trailer with my wife, saw that it takes place in our tiny state. My first thought was, "Cool, I wonder if the house is still standing, I'd love to go visit."

Fire Me Boy! 07-20-2013 01:48 PM

Getting 85% by critics, 90% by audiences now.

I just got back from seeing it, and it's really one of the best horror flicks I've seen in a long, long time. It's got a definite The Exorcist vibe to it, slow burn, leading up to the climax, which doesn't disappoint.

I really enjoyed Insidious...until they explained everything, visited the hokey spirit realm and gave me a cliche "cliffhanger" ending.

Chiefs Pantalones 07-21-2013 04:06 AM

My wife and I saw this tonight and we both thought it was pretty good. I thought it was the best horror movie I've seen in a while. Not bad.

mdchiefsfan 07-21-2013 05:13 AM

Might have to go see it tomorrow. I haven't seen a horror movie get these kinds of reviews in a while.

KC_Lee 07-21-2013 04:28 PM

Just saw it today with the wife. One of the better horror movies to come out in awhile.

Did not rely on what I call "BOO!!" scares, built tension and suspense. CGI was not overused and hat tips to other "classic" horror movies in the same genre.

I recommend this movie.

Bowser 07-21-2013 09:04 PM

Better movie - this or the new Evil Dead?

This movie. The Evil Dead was a throwback to the older horror movies (being a remake) but it was all gore, no substance actually. It wasn't scary it was just gruesome to me. The Conjuring had it all, IMO.

Evil Dead couldn't hold The Conjurings jock strap.
I saw both this weekend.
Evil Dead was a downright lame ass disappointment.

The Conjuring is a rarity.....a scary movie that is actually scary! Best horror flick I've seen in a long...long...long time! matter of fact....hmm....I can't think of another this good.

It's not The Exorcist-good, but it's up there. I'll buy it when it's out, for sure.

this is the one I thought about. the one to compare to. I think The Conjuring puts up a helluva fight. for me personally, I think it's better.

DMAC 07-23-2013 01:51 PM

That lady that is in it, Lily Taylor, she was in The Haunting. I'm guessing she is not as hilariously bad in Conjuring as she was Haunting.

I don't think it rises to that level, certainly not having only been out for a few days with no repeated viewings. But it's damn good, and as I said earlier in this thread has a distinct Exorcist feel to it.

I love scary movies. I really do. but most aren't really scary.
twice in the theater the hair was standing up on my arms!
I was really really surprised that

Spoiler!

SAGA45 07-25-2013 12:47 PM

From the trailer, it looks a LOT like Insidious. Did any of you who saw Insidious still find The Conjuring super scary and good? I ask because I'm strongly considering going to see it this weekend

I enjoyed Insidious, but this is a lot better.

Passepartout 07-25-2013 02:05 PM

It was #1 at the box office as it beat out some big time big budget films btw!

Crush 07-25-2013 11:17 PM

Just got back from seeing it. Probably the best horror movie to come out in a long time.

Jerm 07-27-2013 04:42 PM

Really good...tense, genuinely scary, and well paced.

One of the best if not the standard bearer for modern horror films.

Highly recommend it...

WakkaWakka 07-27-2013 10:00 PM

Wow...must just not be for me. My wife and I just got back from seeing it. We weren't impressed. I had high hopes goin in because of reviews, but was very disappointed walking out. Quite honestly, I just got a kick out of laughing my ass off at other people around me and their reactions, funny as hell!

ThaVirus 07-28-2013 04:35 PM

I thought The Conjuring was pretty good although it didn't bring anything new to the table. Let's be honest, this type of horror flick has been done to death.

It definitely fell into the cliche trap at certain points- family moving into a new house, dog won't even go inside, clocks stop at certain times, pictures falling, youngest child was first to make contact with "spirits", stumbling upon the old, boarded up cellar- but how can you make a horror movie without some of those elements? I feel like it would be nearly impossible.

The acting was good, particularly from the actors that player Mr. and Mrs. Warren and the setting was good, albeit a bit played out.

I thought where this movie excelled was in it's suspense. It was one of the most tense films I've seen recently and it didn't rely on cheap, jumpy scares to make you feel uncomfortable.

I only had a couple complaints, and they were very mild. One was the fact that it got a bit slow in the middle particularly after
Spoiler!
. That part was kind of a segway into bringing in the Warrens, though, so I can understand why there wasn't as much going on at that point.

The other 'complaint' was that I didn't really understand the whole Annabelle thing.
Spoiler!

Whatevskis. All in all, it was definitely a good movie. I'd recommend it.

ModSocks 08-06-2013 04:28 PM

Saw this movie last night and thought it was a good movie.

I had read so many glowing reviews though and kinda wished i hadn't. I expected too much.

And I agree with Thavirus about the doll. Could've completely removed it from the movie and it would've been the same movie. Im not sure why it was even there other than to put a creepy doll in the movie.
