Looks like NFL might get rid of kickoffs as soon as 2019

5X as many concussions on kickoffs. Looks like we might see an end to kickoffs and maybe punt returns.

KCrockaholic 03-28-2018 02:02 PM

Kickoffs, fine, whatever. But don't eliminate the damn punt return. You're changing the entire game by doing that.

Simply Red 03-28-2018 02:02 PM

The league is scared of Akeem Hunt.

kcpasco 03-28-2018 02:04 PM

No onside kicks? Or can that just be replaced with rock paper scissor.

Halfcan 03-28-2018 02:04 PM

They should probably just go ahead and get rid of tackling as well. Flag football can be just as exciting and much safer.

I would get rid of kickoffs unless the score is close.

O.city 03-28-2018 02:15 PM

Once they started to get sued, this is what was always gonna happen.

Current players are gonna bitch and shit about it. It is what it is.

Maybe let K.O's be optional for the team that was just scored on. Either take the ball at the 25/30 or attempt a return.

That way it'll cut back on the amount of kickoffs, but not entirely.

RunKC 03-28-2018 02:16 PM

So I guess if this happens, teams start the drive off at the 25?

Dayze 03-28-2018 02:16 PM

kickoffs, for me anyway, have gone the way of the extra point.
useless and uneventful 99 times out a 100; I use the time to go to the bathroom and get a beer.

Sad; kickoffs were always exciting.
once they moved the K/O spot up, it basically killed it for me. Such an excited play seeing a kicker nail a ball 10 yards out of the back of the end zone. yay.

DaneMcCloud 03-28-2018 02:22 PM

I honestly couldn't care less because it seems like 85% of the time, the kickers boot it out of the End Zone and 14% of the time, the returners don't even get the ball back to the 25 yard line or there's a holding penalty.

About 1% of the time, it's an exciting play.

I won't miss it once it's gone.

They almost have to allow onside kicks - that'd be a huge game changer. I wonder what the comparative injury rate is vs standard kickoffs.

Because they have legislated it NEAR to death, and now they're applying the killing stroke.

More emphasis on quarterbacks as the only path to victory in the modern NFL. Yay.
