Group of Chiefs fans wants to turn up volume at Arrowhead
Loudest stadium in Seattle? Not if a group of Chiefs fans has anything to say about it.
Congregating in a newly formed Facebook group dubbed Terrorhead Returns, the fast-growing cadre of red-and-yellow-clad fans is hoping to counter a group of Seahawks backers who are attempting to get CenturyLink Field into the Guinness Book of Records as the loudest stadium on Earth. Quoting from the Terrorhead Returns page: “We have submitted an application with Guiness (sic) World Book and will request the permission from the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL to be given a fair chance to put the record where it is truly deserved. Join in Chiefs Fans! GO CHIEFS!!!” So far, the Seattle contingent, which goes by the handle “Volume 12” (an homage to the team’s “12th Man” legacy of fan support), is a step ahead of KC’s. According to a post on NFL.com, the Seattle group announced on its own Facebook page that its application to have the decibels measured at the Seahawks’ Sept. 15 Sunday Night Football showdown with the San Francisco 49ers has formally been accepted by Guinness. The official entry would be dubbed “loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium.” A website in Seattle, SeattlePI.com, reports that the current record is held by the Ali Sami Yen Sport Complex Turk Telekom Arena in Istanbul, Turkey. The decibels measured that day? An ear-splitting 131.76, or slightly louder than the sound of an airliner at takeoff. The Turkish fans were cheering on a soccer match played by Galatasaray S.K. Size of the venue could factor into Seattle’s Sept. 15 bid: NFL.com reports that the highest decibels recorded at the so-called CLink peaked at 112, but notes that the Seahawks’ home digs hold 67,000, or 14,000more than the Turkish stadium. If size matters, and if Terrorhead Returns can get a date with Guinness — and if Chiefs fans can fill it to capacity — Arrowhead could play a huge factor in a record bid. The venerable Truman Sports Complex venue holds 79,451, or more than 12,000 more than CenturyLink Field. But Terrorhead Returns, though just launched Friday, has ground to make up in terms of likes on its Facebook page. As of 8 p.m. Tuesday, it had 1,830 members compared with 6,263 likes for Volume 12. Win, and you will get your wish.

They have an artificial advantage.

Our yellow ring of seats will lose it for us. Always empty and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
|
If we light it up and they flex a late season game to night time that would be the time to measure.
Monday night when phylis fumbled it was loud as **** Monday night opener too. Giving chiefs fans all day to get liquored up brings out the beast |

Win 3 games and then try to set a record. Good grief. It's about timing. This timing is horrible.

Thats fine if fans want to try and get Arrowhead loud again but calling Guinness is beyond stupid. |

Goes hand in hand with ticket prices and lack of winning too. Not to mention the new wine and cheese crowd and the people that don't even sit in their seats in club. |
Yeah the 90's Chiefs are laughing at the possibility of that.

Bills vs. Chiefs Monday Night Football Now THAT was LOUD and I was there. It was the game that made Arrowhead, ARROWHEAD. |
I been at Arrowhead when the Chiefs were getting stomped by the Giants. That place was lifeless. I was at CenturyLink when the Hawks were getting stomped by Kurt Warner led Cardinals and that place was deafening. Seattle is loud every game win or lose. I hate to admit it.

We could do that here but people need to get off their ass and make it happen again regardless if the team sucks. |
A 3-13 team is not setting any decibel records.

Seattle currently has a great organization, team, and QBOTF.
The Chiefs have a tradition of losing to overcome. Arrowheard will not be anywhere near as loud as Seattle unless they pull some type of miracle season. |
Give the fans something to cheer about and getting loud won’t be a problem.

Such negativity in this thread-lol It is for charity and a good cause. Maybe we won't break the record but at least it is something positive for the team and city.

I think it should be against the Faders in Oct. How sweet to reclaim what is ours against them. This is a must win game- they have owned us at home. But lots of dressed up fader fans. The Chargers have the least amount of fans that come to Terrorhead- so I image it will be against them in Nov. I hope Chiefs Planet decides to get behind this. You guys wanted to SAVE OUR CHIEFS!! Now you are going to let the Seahags steal the title and not even fight for it?? :shake::shake: |

With great pride and honor on behalf of Terrorhead Returns founders; Charlie Edrington, Tim VanderPol, Connie Jo Gillespie, Ty Rowton, and Joshua Boothe...we announce to Chiefs Kingdom fan base this morning:
Guinness Book of World Records has officially given us final approval to compete for the record of, "Loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium." They have stated the record we must beat is that of 131.7 decibels to claim the title as the loudest. We would like once again to express our gratitude to each member of Terrorhead Returns for their support and loyalty to our mission. Special gratitude once again to Michael Scheuerman, founder of Chiefs Coalition, for generously paying the application expedition fee Guinness required to speed the process of final approval. It's on Chiefs fans!! Get your loudest screaming voice and seat banging hands ready! Discussions are currently taking place as to which home game we will attempt to set a new Guinness world record. Once that game has been decided upon, which will be soon, we will announce it here at Terrorhead first. GO CHIEFS FANS!!! |
I'd like to see the Chiefs give me a reason to cheer by results on the field rather than f fake fan driven attempt to recreate the 90s.
It's not happening like that again. The crowd has changed too much. Now you're as likely to be asked to sit down and stop yelling so much by other fans as to be drown out by them. |

The group is selling shirts to raise money for local charities, it is something positive to talk about concerning the Chiefs- much better than banners and player suicides- and it will bring National attention to our team and fans. |
Get a Franchise QB and the volume will automatically go up.

Time restore Terrorhead to its former glory- make teams dread coming here like they used to. Our Home winning % was second only to San Fran in the 90's. |

Well Dave you can sit home and cry about Alex Smith on the internet while we are watching the Chiefs win and hopefully breaking the record. |
As reported by Terrorhead Returns.
Decibel History; There are many comments related to our decibel records and highest. I spent some time last week researching our records online. As most Chiefs fans are aware, in the 1990's a professional sound metering firm recorded decibels measuring 116 at Arrowhead. This established an NFL known record high, and set the bar for all other teams to compete against. It was this historical record that led to world wide media and others associated with the NFL in some way, to bestow the title of, "Loudest Stadium in the NFL" upon Arrowhead & Chiefs fans. However, since that historical 116 decibel record was established in the 90's, Chiefs fans themselves have beat their own record. By the late 90's professional sound analysts were measuring decibels averaging in the 120's during games that drew peak attendance. It has been reported Chiefs fans have even set decibels as high as in to the 130's, though I have not been able to officially confirm those reports. Each NFL stadium has it's own professional sound metering equipment, and each franchise maintains game decibel records in their archives. I'm unable to access those records archived at the Chiefs, which is why I can't confirm we've reached as high as in to the 130's as reported by some media sources. |
What's fake about this?
Well....Arrowhead hasn't been loud since the Chiefs started sucking more seasons ago than I care to think about. It was probably still loud 2 games in a row in 2005. |

They want to pick a good game? Wait for the Vikings to come to town. Take a measurement when Cassel emerges from the tunnel.
|
Seems to me a college stadium like LSU, Bama, Florida, ohio state, Michigan could crush Seattle's noise output. 90k-110k attendance.
|
When did anybody ever call it Terrorhead? Is that a real thing?
|

Also the fans just don't get it anymore. Seems like they get loud on 3rd down & when they do its after the other team breaks huddle. You have to be loud as they are going into huddle & up thru the snap. If you make it so they can't hear in the huddle, they can't hear the play, or maybe get the play mixed up with another. I'm afraid Arrowhead will never be the same again. |

might be a good time to by some equity in audiology testing centers/ hearing aid companies in the seatle/KC area.
$3000 hearing aid devices and an aging population means their is an oppurtunity for growth in the industry along with a healthy profit margin. |

When I was a STH in the 90's I always had to take 3 painkillers at halftime because my head hurt so bad from my own as well as the rest of the stadium cheering and banging on the seats.Good times all around.

arrowhead louder?

just standin' around in the Truman Sports Complex parking lot, suckin' on a chili dog

as if the team has not embarrassed us enough

I wish I was able to attend a game in the 90's.
The loudest I've heard was at the Opener a few years back when they unveiled the 'new' Arrowhead. |

Just let the Seahags take the title that BELONGS to Arrowhead without even trying because LAST year was a bad year. I love it that they are trying to bring back home field advantage-plus helping some local charities in the process. SAVE OUR CHIEFS needs to get behind this. That was the whole point of the movement to bring back the Chiefs to respectability? |

SOC needs to get involved in this.

Guinness just confirmed this group as going after the record. They have to beat 131.7 dB.

Even if we were to win, which I sincerely doubt we even crack 115db, it would be a hollow and meaningless victory. It is one thing to hold the record because the fans are into it and are just out of their minds with emotion for the team... it is a completely different thing to "manufacture" the sound just to get in a stupid world record book. Especially when it a reaction to Seattle doing it first. Monkey see... monkey do. *edit - SOC was created to get the attention of ownership and let them know we were pissed off and demanded a better product for our money and time. There is nothing "respectable", IMHO, about creating an artificial environment just for the sake of being in a record book. |
