I could give a rat's butt about the vocals. The kids on the guitars have some chops.

Hey, whatever floats your boat. I'm not criticizing you for your tastes, I'm criticizing that band based on my tastes. :)

Reaper16 12-07-2006 06:25 PM

Old Trivium = some of the worst harsh vocals ever

New Trivium = pretty good James Hetfield impersonation

I never could get into Trivium. Dragonforce is good, and Henry Li is one badass little British Chinaman, one of the better speed players out there. The only problem I have with them is that there is an overriding sameness to about 95% of their catalogue, a problem that admittedly afflicts a lot of power and speed metal bands.

I have to be honest here,I've downloaded a little bit of all their music and made a couple of compilation cd's of the stuff I like the best.I do have a concert DVD they put out not along though on my Christmas list.

As for some other music I've come across lately that I'm really liking

Alias Eye

Watermelon Slim

Angels and Airwaves

Enigma

Yeah, that's why I titled the thread New Music Discoveries, doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a new band just new to you and somehow Enigma got by me but thanks to a friend I recently got introduced to them.

After buying the Wolfmother cd and listening to it a couple of times I must say it gets old really fast. All the songs sound pretty much the same and lack depth. It was mildly entertaining at first to hear their retro sound but I would not rate them very highly.

Didn't go back and read the whole thread to see if the band Clutch had been mentioned,I don't recall them though.

Clutch is one of my 10 favorite bands. I love how they do quite a large chunk of different styles while still sounding like Clutch.

I think a lot of the prog rock types will like them pretty well, even though it's more post than prog. Anyway, very cool crescendo-based instrumentals with soaring and intricate guitar work.

Eh, I don't know. They probably don't appeal to technical music freaks because they're certainly not the most technically adept instrumental band I've ever heard. That being said, I think they build some interesting textures and have a good feel for crescendo.

I agree. Instrumental bands are boring.

I did think EITS were decent until I saw them live. I filmed the show and made a DVD out of it, at the Replay Lounge in Lawrence, ks.

That said, they weren't that great. And it magnified after I tried to talk to them. (Yes I had something meaningful to say.. I'm not a groupie just wanting to hang out)

Heh. I had a similar experience with the Gourds. I actually like them okay, but I've liked them quite a bit less since I almost got into a fist fight with the banjo player one night at a show. Dude was a total asshole.

All these drunken frat kids were yelling for "Gin and Juice", and I told them to shut the **** up and let the band play what they wanted to play. The banjo player then, evidently, thinks I'm the one yelling for Gin and Juice and goes into this huge rant about it while on stage and telling me to **** off and such. I try to approach him afterwards and explain the mixup, and he continues to be a gigantic prick.

I've mentioned these guys a few times before. They are a national touring band from KC (Blue Springs) and they have a Chiefsplanet connection. They are currently in talks with Epic records about a new contract.

The sample songs on this site aren't my personal favorite, but still good stuff.
