CG is just a tool, and much like a weapon, in the wrong hands, it is terrifying, but in the right hands, it is magic. Del Toro is generally on the side of the good. He chooses his weapons pretty well, using practical effects where they are best suited and even through the lens stuff when needed like in Devil's Backbone which was lovely and simple.

I'll be there for this one.

Hollywood doesn't use high quality animatronics anymore like Jurassic Park's utilization of it.

I'm not a huge fan of CGI, but it looks well utilized here. Looks like they even gave some of the monsters that intentionally cheesy look and movement. Like to honor the old films that inspired this.
