VOLUNTEER IN PERSON - Volunteer efforts are being coordinated through Missouri Southern State University.
Many people have contacted the City of Joplin to volunteer assistance to the victims of the storm. ALL citizen volunteers should report to the Recreation Center at Missouri Southern State University. Volunteers’ services are appreciated, but to be effective, will need to be coordinated through this centralized location. Citizens are reminded that the American Red Cross, in cooperation with the City, has set up a shelter at Missouri Southern State University in the Leggett & Platt Center.

This wrecked a good portion of Joplin's businesses... Not to mention too many homes.

Edit: At the time I thought the tornadoes that hit Carl Junction and Pierce City were bad; especially in the latter case because it annihilated their old school down-town. This takes the cake.

Based on the level of destruction, that could turn out to be a conservative estimate.

Possibly. The Weather Channel reporter early on said they had witnessed dead bodies themselves. At one point during that live feed he told the photographer to not shoot something because it was a dead body.

It went like "Look over there" camera pans over to see a group of people carrying something looking a body. "Okay no, don't look over there" as he palms the lens.

My heart goes out to the people in Joplin. I've not heard back from a couple of my friends and one family member, yet.

Guys, think what you will... but this storm was DEFINITELY modified. I watched it on radar yesterday... and they've really been pounding the midwest with these storms lately. This is no bullshit.

I've seen many, many of the scalar rings on radar late at night over the past couple months, and every time that these circles pop up on radar... BOOM. A huge storm hits the area within a day or two. It's like clockwork.

Sometimes the circles are more visible than others, but when you've been watching for them, you see the footprint of weather modification.
