Lots of purple. This could be darker than Daredevil.

It should be MUCH darker.

And not sure where else to put this so I'll put it here...

I think that is Killgrave saying Jessica about nine seconds in.

I actually got a real kick out of her character on that B in apt 23 sitcom. She sure doesn't seem like the right person for this role though.

She was great in Breaking Bad season 2

I like her /shrug

Swanman 09-12-2015 10:19 PM

I checked out the IMDB page and Luke Cage is appearing in all the episodes it looks like. I like the actor they picked to play him. It also has Carrie Ann Moss, which is pretty cool.

It appears the villain will be the Purple Man so that could be interesting.

I expected a more athletic woman. More of a young Lucy Lawless or Jennifer Garner type.

It's an odd mix of someone who can be vulnerable but later take a very Ripley/Sarah Connor role...

Nice catch.

I'm sure most people waiting for this have run across the vid below but just in case you haven't...this guy pulls an insane amount of info out of a very short teaser.

Some of this stuff is stretching it a bit and some is amazing attention to detail...

Right. When I first saw this thread I dug around on YouTube and found a decent video that explained her origin. I think that the trailer touched on all of that without going into detail. The only part that wasn't hinted at was

Spoiler!

but she did say "Yeah...been there, done that" when discussing being a hero.

??: "He isn't here now."
JJ: "Yeah, well he's always here." <points at head>
Prisoner: "He said I was never as good as you."

Yeah, the trailer is totally pointing at her history. This season will obviously focus on Kilgrave's escape from prison (with whatever changes they make). This should be an awesome show. This is a storyline they can play with and update, not having to be sticklers for the source material. Just keep the darkness and the edge, which it looks like they will.

And, is that possibly Danvers?!?! IMDB doesn't list her, but maybe just a pseudonym until the show release? Would make sense to see Captain Marvel introduced in Jessica Jones.

What I'm hoping for is a more ****ed up, more powerful, female Batman. I know it's a stretch. The interaction between the two of them (her and the Purple Man) could make Batman/Joker look like they're playing tiddly winks in comparison.

unlurking 10-24-2015 12:19 PM

Definitely. I'm looking forward to a really dark series. It seems like the whole Netflix world with DD, JJ, LC, & Punisher will be much darker than the rest of the MCU.

Iron Fist won't be though. Particularly if they do the Seven Cities arc. Bring on Fat Cobra I say.

If anything she's a C+ Supergirl that's actually interesting.

And I'm not a big fan of Danver's character. I honestly thought the best thing she ever did was get absorbed by Rogue and make her character more interesting...

I'd love to see a mini-series on Speedball! Couple episodes spoofing reality TV shows, all light-hearted and stupid. Kind of like Ultimate Fighter meets Big Brother. Then Nitro. Then a couple super dark Penance episodes. Would have been an awesome side project released right before CACW.

More like the budget would have to be a lot larger. Lots more effects needed than DD, Luke Cage, or Jessica Jones.

You would have create a CGI Chinese dragon and of course K'un-L'un among a whole bunch of other effects.

The other problem is that Hydra is a big part of the Matt Fraction Iron Fist series which would be the logical choice to base the series on.

On episode 3. Really enjoying this show. Very creepy.

Don't know anything about Hellcat, but I love the way that Marvel introduces new characters.

Through the first three. Pilot dragged a bit initially but otherwise really good

Very, very, VERY different from Daredevil and basically anything Marvel has done. Hard drinking, hard talking, hard ****ing and some really dark shit. And actually very little action.

They did make some changes which I like.

Like how Cage and Jones are linked and what happened to Cage's woman.

Probably pick up with ep 7 tomorrow and finish it. Tennant is a pretty damed creepy bad guy...

Just finished. Really strong second half. And hints of where I assume season 2 will go.

Ironically the only thing I didn't like was Simpson and the red pill stuff, but that's how they get to next year...

On to The Man in the High Castle.

Just finished episode 10. I agree, the adaptations from the story are great. Usually I prefer a more faithful attempt to stay true to the source, but the changes here have been great so far. The Cage/Jones history works well, and I love the new origin story of Killgrave.

Watched the finale just before the game. Excellent season. Looking forward to season two and the inevitable showdown with IGH.

Curious to know if we get to see Hellcat next season as well. Also assuming we'll see more of Nuke. Can't wait for Cage and Defenders!

ThaVirus 11-23-2015 12:23 PM

This is a pretty good show. Id be lying if I said Luke Cage wasn't my favorite part of it, but the drama and mystery is pretty cool.

As mentioned, there's a shit ton of sex. I feel like every time I turn around Luke and Jessica are boning.

And some seriously ****ed up shit!

They've also done a great job at setting up Purple Man as an antagonist.

Just finished it. Pretty damn good shit. In the first few episodes I thought it was pretty good shit.

Then the back half is waaaay better. And doesn't **** around. It throws some damned haymakers. Marvel/Netflix did great with this one. Some things were pretty tough to tackle with mind control, but it did well. Both Daredevil and Jessica Jones are pretty solid.

I also like how different these characters are. Killgrave isn't a raving madman like the Kingpin. He just doesn't give a ****. About anyone or anything. People are just entertainment to him.

He really isn't even power hungry. He didn't become president or take over Microsoft - he just wants what he can't have...

I enjoyed the season and I'll keep watching. I can't say exactly why. I found myself buying into the characters though. Decent acting, decent dialogue, decent plots. All of the main characters are played by actors who are compelling in their own ways. I had a really hard time accepting Tennant in the role. I have only seen him in Dr. Who before this. At least he looks older so that did make it easier. Also the woman who plays the lawyer...

Spoiler!

...really reminds me of the wife on House of Cards for some reason. I just couldn't shake the feeling that they were the same people. Weird for two fictional characters that are completely unrelated played by two different actors to give me that feeling.

Carrie Anne Moss is the lawyer on Jessica Jones

I didn't get that vibe. I just thought that was the only role that was acted poorly. There is a way to play that role and that ain't it.

Hell of it is I had it figured all wrong. I was the most worried about the Jessica Jones Character. That is a damn complex character and I thought there was a low probability of Krysten Ritter doing a decent job. She did really well. Tennant knocked it out of the park IMO. Even the Malcom and Trish characters I thought were well done.

I figured Carrie Anne Moss had that shit nailed down. Disappointing that she is the one that dropped the ball.

unlurking 11-24-2015 10:04 AM

I don't think that is on Carrie Anne Moss. That's on the directing. And I thought she was great. Hogarth is a man in the comics (which I didn't know until after doing some reading after watching). During the first few episodes I was wondering if Hogarth really was a man, and JJ's mind was ****ed up and she was seeing a woman. Maybe Killgrave was hiding in plain site.

Moss hit all the right notes of a stereotype for power hungry assholes. I liked the character and the portrayal by Hogarth.

Stopped watching House of Card a long time ago. I see Trinity, not Spacey's wife.

Yep. I'd love to see him show up elsewhere in the MCU. I really thought he portrayed what someone might be like with his background and powers very well. Very child like in his desires and attitudes.

I thought this as well but after A1 and A2 the whole "brainwashed" thing is pretty played out by now, which is a shame.

I'll save my negatives for later but I'd give DD an "A" and JJ a "B+."

I liked the JJ story better but there were some groaner moments. The hospital scene with her lifting a person up, and you can tell that person is on wires, was probably the worst...
