Even at halftime down by 9, i still felt good. The weirdest feeling I have ever had being down as a Jayhawk fan.

I still can't explain it.

Funny...I was trying to talk friends off the ledge at halftime. I thought we played well the first half, despite the TO's and poor shooting. I know that sounds funny. But I figured the cold shooting would turn around and we'd dominate the second half, which ended up being the case.

I think we come out blazing tonight. No fooling around

Bill Self -- that's the explanation. Plus, I remember the feeling of "crap, they're going to lose because they can't make a basket" pretty well from when Roy coached at Kansas, and it was one of those games for UNC. I knew as long as Kansas started hitting a few more easy baskets and did away with some of the really dumb turnovers, they had a really good chance at making a run that never quite happened against WKU.

CoMoChief 03-29-2013 10:22 AM

It's going to get extremely tough from here on out.

Michigan is gonna be a tough TOUGH game...their guards are really good.

KCUnited 03-29-2013 10:36 AM

McGary was a beast in the VCU game, he was playing with a different level of energy than anyone on the floor. I haven't watched a lot of Michigan games this year, but they looked tough to beat. I'm hoping this is one of the better games this weekend.

They could win shooting 43%...... 25%, like they did in the first half, is another story, but that's as obvious and pointless as the TCU argument.

can white boy shoot tho?

Ceej 03-29-2013 11:03 AM

McGary doesn't have much range.

I like our front court infinitely more than theirs.

He was just averaging 6 points I think during the season. But I think he scored 20 something in their first game and 16 in the second or something like that.

Chief_For_Life58 03-29-2013 11:21 AM

withey gonna trash em

FishingRod 03-29-2013 11:28 AM

Ku just needs to be ok instead of a bag of crap shooting from the outside and we stand a good chance but, we really must to play better than we did the first game and the first half of last game. Go KU

DJay23 03-29-2013 11:36 AM

A study was done last year. Shooting percentages drop across the board (2 pt jumpers, 3's, Free throws) in domes. That could hurt Michigan more than KU.

Also a lot is made of how bad Michigan pounded VCU. As well they should have. They have the best point guard in teh country and the #3 rated transition finisher in the country beating a press. It doesn't translate to how they'll do against a good half court man D.

Michigan is not going to shoot a crazy percentage against KU's D. It's going to come down to these things to me:

1)KU owning the defensive boards.
2)KU not making turnovers that result in runouts.
3)How effective KU is at defending Burke in the half court. Rumors are that Releford will be on him.
4)KU has to come out with energy from the start. I'm thinking like the Colorado game.

Even if McLemore has another subpar game, I think if the above go KU's way no amount of 3 pointers or McGary putbacks will beat KU today.

Edited to say, well, maybe not "no amount" of 3 pointers. How about an Iowa State level won't do it.

Bambi 03-29-2013 12:03 PM

Feels like one of those games where everyone gets all worried and starts praising Michigan over and over again.

Then KU just blows them out.

Silock 03-29-2013 12:24 PM

I don't know how much you can take from Michigan over VCU.

VCU presses, but they don't play defense. Big difference.

Michigan is still really good, but it's their guards vs. our post players. I think we basically let Burke go off for 30 and try to contain everyone else.

BWillie 03-29-2013 12:49 PM

As a KU fan, playing in a dome is great. KU doesnt rely on the 3 pt shot. It will only help us. I expect Withey and Rele domination. Bill Selfs teams are pure grit. That is why we win. Plus I had a dream that Bennt MC drained his 1st 3 and got an alley oop on the first play. We were up 14 to 2 to start.

ReynardMuldrake 03-29-2013 01:12 PM

Michigan has not seen this kind of D in the tourney. Withey is going to give them fits. I can see McGary turning into last year's Jared Sullinger.

That's if KU's defense doesn't lay an egg. Those guards are goooood. Probably the best in the nation. Ours are not. We rely on blocked shots , rebounding, and forcing bad shots inside the arc.

True, I read an analysis that said KU's defense locks down the paint (like no one can score, no one) but the opponents in KU's path are teams that dont rely on the paint to score. Michigan is the worst about that, the vast majority of their scoring is outside the paint.

I too have a really good feeling. I've watched both teams lots. I honestly truly think that Michigan will win by 10 or more. if they play the same level of ball as they did in the VCU game......ain't gonna be good for KU.

McGary has just now become the starter. Michigan deferred to the senior Jordan Morgan all year. but McGary is better. last two games they spelled McGary with Horford and Morgan sat the bench. not sure why, but all 3 are decent with McGary being an authentic big man. I do believe he really is 6 10 with a motor that won't stop. he can dribble too.

Michigan starts 3 freshmen, and this could hurt with such a big spotlight shining down. they also start 5 future NBA'ers, so that's good!

Rudy tossed tigger's salad 03-29-2013 01:49 PM

I don't know how either fan can predict their team to win by 10+ points.

teedubya 03-29-2013 01:55 PM

With 4 days to prepare... I like KU's chances. The KU Defense is too good and we always seem to make the other team take less than optimal shots.

I think we can win... but I wouldn't bet money. Sweet 16 is fine... Elite 8 would be much better... keep on par with Wichita St. :-)

Gonna be fun... and I'm not too stressed.

Pablo 03-29-2013 01:56 PM

Kansas by six. In Bill I trust.

teedubya 03-29-2013 01:57 PM

I didn't expect Miami to get punched in the mouth last night... nor did I expect Indiana to get beat down... anything can happen with this crazy tournament.

10 points isn't necessarily a huge win, depending on end of game free throws and so forth, but I'd be pretty surprised if Kansas loses by much more than that... I think they've lost by 10+ twice in the past 2 years, and if they aren't tuned in (@Baylor), they deserve to lose, and it's not like they're playing Kentucky. If you're really basing your opinion on watching them a lot, you should know they're going to be a tough out for any team in this tournament.

I'm always less stressed when everyone is picking the opponent... Self's teams generally rise to the occasion, and if they lose, it's not like it was completely unexpected. No shame in losing to Michigan, as long as leave it all on the floor.

I absolutely think Kansas has one helluva team this year. no doubt. best thing for Michigan would have been an NC upset...but I wanted Kansas. my friends will be rooting for them. it brings my team to the interest of KC....and it's fun. if KU plays to their potential and Michigan stumbles, KU will win by doubles. if if if....

I also believe just as strongly that if Michigan plays their best (yes that is a big IF), with the talent they have, I don't think Kansas can hang. until last night I'd have said I don't think anyone would hang with Michigans best....but Syracuse weirded me out quite a bit.....

yeah I totally agree. playing good and losing don't hurt as bad. good Lord thinking about that loss to Penn State makes me wanna barf.
conversely the loss to IN and the winning layup that stayed on the rim for 5 minutes before falling out....well....**** it...that sucked too! :D

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2013/m...ixed-his-shot/

Quote:

Arlington, Texas — Ben McLemore stood behind the three-point line and confidently swished long-range shot after long-range shot during Kansas University’s 40-minute shoot-around on Thursday in cavernous Cowboys Stadium.

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound freshman from St. Louis looked more like the guy who has averaged 15.8 points a game off 49.4 percent shooting entering today’s 6:37 p.m. NCAA South Regional Sweet 16 game against Michigan than the one who went 2-for-14 and scored 13 points total in last weekend’s second- and third-round victories over Western Kentucky and North Carolina.

“Coach (Joe, assistant) Dooley pointed out that I usually shoot with my fingers spread apart. But he said lately that he’s been seeing me shoot with my fingers close together, which is probably why some of my shots were long. He got me shooting back to normal,” McLemore said, explaining some technical issues that may have caused his recent shooting woes.

“Coach said I was shooting a flat shot. When I do that, the ball is like a line drive or long. He said I was having a quick release instead of shooting the regular shot I shoot. I’ve been in the gym, getting extra shots with coach Dooley and (Kurtis) Townsend, and now it’s looking good.”
Lets do this.
