Mock (10/27)

Assumptions:

1. The Chiefs finish 9-7, make the playoffs, and get drummed out of the first round by the Indianapolis Colts. Because we are the Chiefs. We end up picking #23. All staff is retained.

2. The team fails to extend OLB Justin Houston and has to franchise tag him. They do, however, extend S Eric Berry at some point over the next 12 months for about $8-9m a year.

3. The Chiefs re-sign C Rodney Hudson to a 4 year, $20m deal ($6m guaranteed), DE Allen Bailey to a 4 year, $18m deal ($3m guaranteed), DE Kevin Vickerson to a 2 year, $4m deal, and S Ron Parker to a 3 year, $5m deal ($1m guaranteed).

4. The Chiefs extend OLB Tamba Hali 3 years, $35m ($15 guaranteed). The deal is backloaded but with nearly all the guaranteed money up front.

5. The Chiefs cut WR A.J. Jenkins, TE Anthony Fasano, DE Mike DeVito, ILB Derrick Johnson, and CB Jamell Fleming.

6. The Chiefs tender OLB Josh Martin.

7. The Chiefs let walk WR Junior Hemingway, WR Frankie Hammond, OT Ryan Harris, OG Jeff Linkenbach, OG Mike McGlynn, S Kurt Coleman, and S Kelcie McCray.

8. The Chiefs re-sign RB Joe McKnight, FB Anthony Sherman, TE Demetrius Harris, ILB Josh Mauga, CB Chris Owens, and LS Thomas Gafford to minimal deals.

9. They receive four compensatory picks: a 3rd, a 4th, a 5th, and a 6th.

On with the show:

1.23. WR Dorial Green-Beckham, Oklahoma

Well the Chiefs, with yet another first round piffle out of the playoffs, are looking to beef up a pathetic WR corps, and have to do so at the bottom of the first round. That's where they can potentially land Green-Beckham, should DGB come out this year. DGB has elite measurables, but needs a TON of grooming -- in other words, he is the perfect Dorsey selection.

The Chiefs can trot out Avery at the #2 slot and give DGB all year to pick up the offense. At the very least, he gives the Chiefs a great weapon on those bubble screens they're apparently obsessed with running.

Adding DGB (and re-signing Hudson) gives the Chiefs an offense that can grow together for YEARS -- Alex Smith, Jamaal Charles, Knile Davis, DeAnthony Thomas, Dwayne Bowe, DGB, Eric Fisher, and Rodney Hudson are all under contract for multiple years.

2.55. ILB Denzel Perryman, Miami

The Chiefs trade their 2.61 and 4.124 to move up to 2.55.

The Chiefs take their best ****ing shot at getting a replacement for DJ. I'm higher on this kid than most, and he provides the jolt at the line of scrimmage and stack-and-shed ability that DJ became elite at. He's also a natural leader on the field who's almost as good dropping into coverage as he is slamming into the LOS.

3.87. WR Justin Hardy, East Carolina

Hardy is a shifty, smaller route-runner with great hands. After the Chiefs swung for the fences on a boom-bust prospect in DGB, they're going to go for a safer talent who can provide smart intermediate route-running and sneaky-good after-the-catch ability.

3.96. OT T.J. Clemmings, Pittsburgh

Clemmings will need a year of grooming behind Stephenson, but possesses very fast feet and long arms. His biggest weakness is his slight-ish frame at "only" 305 lbs, but after a year in the same conditioning program that beefed up Eric Fisher, Clemmings could be ready to assume RT responsibilities as soon as his 2nd year.

4.134. CB Quandre Diggs, Texas

Diggs is an unremarkable but reliably solid playmaker for the Longhorns. He reminds me quite a bit of Jamell Fleming, both in size and the nature of how they play. The Chiefs showed interest in Fleming at the start of this year, and I think Diggs is a glorified version of him.

5.163. TE C.J. Uzomah, Auburn

I had a couple choices here, but the Chiefs dumped Fasano this hypothetical, and need more beef here. Uzomah is just now learning how to play tight end, and sports a fantastic, huge frame at 6'4", 264 lbs, and decent hands, he is a bull at the point of attack in the run game.

5.174. S Kyshoen Jarrett, Virginia Tech

Jarrett reminds me a lot of Kurt Coleman, who the Chiefs picked up this year. He's a terrifically aggressive safety with lots of range to play deep. Potential starter upside.

6.193. NT Brandon Ivory, Alabama

The Chiefs must add more beef behind Poe.

6.213. OG Jamon Brown, Louisville

6'6", 350 lbs, with impossibly long arms. Experience at RT and LT.

7.238. ILB Collin Ellis, Northwestern

Very athletic WILB who can cover lots of ground and make plays behind the line of scrimmage.

DGB is going to be an interesting dude to watch next draft. I can't imagine he would go to Oklahoma next year with the NFL potentially calling. Of course the team that takes him is going to face a shitstorm of negative press, but teams can ignore that potential for only so long. Still have my doubts to if he goes in the first (maybe second?) next year, but we'll see.

I know little about the other guys you've listed, but you've targeted our needs well. However, the fact that you've prophesized yet ANOTHER ****ing loss in the playoffs to the ****ing Colts should be all we ****ing need to waterboard your ****ing cat.

The Chiefs cut WR A.J. Jenkins, TE Anthony Fasano, DE Mike DeVito, ILB Derrick Johnson, and CB Jamell Fleming.

We won't cut DJ-no way, no how. That would be a shit thing to do since he is so close to the All Time tackle record. He has been a great Chief and awesome to the public.

If he can't play for medical reasons that is one thing-but I think he comes back and has a typical DJ year.

Not a big fan of the off season plan, but I like the draft. Dgb is on par as a prospect as Calvin Johnson and Randy moss.

I think DJs a good enough player that his 5 mill a year salary makes no sense at all to cut him. I think its definitely time to sign his replacement, but not to let him go.

And I love hali, but I think him being gone is best for this team. If I were Dorsey and Sutton id be getting ford and martin all the reps I could, to help make the decision more clear, and to prepare them for his departure.

I would also let bowe walk. That's more scary to me than letting hail walk, due to us having absolutely nothing behind him, but bowes set to make 14 m next year, and hail 12 This is a very deep free agency year for wr. And the draft has some guys that look ready to produce year 1 that should be available, and we really have the ammo to get whoever we want. But anywho, we could make this team MUCH better with the 26 million.

Torrey smith, Welker, demaryius Thomas, hakieem nicks, Randall, Cobb, Reggie Wayne, Cecil shorts, Kenny Britt, maclin, Crabtree, kearse, Nate Washington etc. are all set to become free agents next year. We could very easily sign 2 or 3 solid guys in this area, for the price of bowe and that would be huge for this team.

Just a complete hypothetical as we don't know who will be resigned. But say idk Crabtree, and maclin, would be a solid duo, and could easily be signed for less than 14m we owe bowe. with a draft pick like dgb, parker, Diggs, I think dat, Avery, Jenkins, would have a pretty hard time cracking the lineup.

We could also do a lot with the money saved from hail, we could sign a nice guard like iupati, and a bunch or jags, or really whatever.

I dumno, I just think with the 26m we could save, this team could be stacked on paper, so long as the FO gets the deals done in FA, and Dee ford steps up.

Chiefs won't get DGB at the 23rd selection, and there's no chance Jenkins and Hemingway aren't on the roster next year.
