"Saudi authorities have beheaded a murderer and crucified his body after he killed and raped a Pakistani national.

The kingdom's interior ministry announced the execution, stating that the man had murdered and sodomised another male. Both actions are punishable by death.

'The Yemeni citizen Mohammed Rashad Khairi Hussain killed a Pakistani, Pashteh Sayed Khan, after he committed sodomy with him,' said a statement carried by state news agency SPA."

I suppose but it's fairly common. People who get public execution are often left hanging on boards or by rope in middle eastern countries. If you watch Argo you even see how they had a guy hanging by a crane next to a street.

Christians loved to do this sort of shit back in the day as well. It wasn't until the modernization of Europe and the growth to power that led to the nations becoming more civilized, that it started to go away. If the Persian empire had remained the most dominate force in the world, we would likely be the people doing these sorts of things.

Asian countries have also been known to do crazy shit like this prior to the U.S. dominating them and westernizing them.

Islam's problem isn't that it's "not really a religion of peace", so much as the fact that its punishments are so antiquated. Most other religions dropped punishments like this centuries ago. They were still guilty of the same thing, Islam is just doing it in the wrong time.
