yes, get special 'remote totem' then put it into socket that is linked to skill you want.

you will see that skill show up in your hotkeys with little letter by skill picture.

btw - if you have a support gem linked to skill it usually shows a little letter in skill icon so you can know if it's compatible and working.

Not sure what a "remote totem" is, I have just a normal totem that shakes and all that.

KC the totem you are describing is either a pulse totem or a decoy totem

there are 5 different totems

decoy totem (skill), rejuvenation totem (skill), flame totem (skill), pulse totem (skill), and spell totem (support). you need the spell totem to attach to a spell (skill). all the skill gems have hard edges, those are standalone skills. the support gem is the one you want. support gems are spherical. you can link the spell totem support gem to most spells (blue skill gems). if you link any of the totem skill gems to a spell gem then you will wind up with 2 skills that work independently.

the spell totem support gem will show up on your icon as whatever spell you have linked with it. so if you have a fireball linked to the spell totem, the icon will be fireball with the letter T.

I'll need to locate a spell totem then, haven't found one yet. Only totem i have is the pulse one i think.

you should barter for the spell totem. you might be waiting a long time for one to drop off a mob. to work a trade just keep this in mind; you want to trade something of equal value so you don't get ripped off. if you trade skill gems straight up, then the level required to use the gem should be equal to or close to the gem you trade for. for example, you need to be level 19 to use the spell totem support gem. so you should try to trade away a gem that also requires level 19.

Thank you, would you happen to have an extra one?

if I did, I would loan it to you. I lost everything in my stash in the last wipe.

now that I'm starting over, I'm playing as duelist and I'm in the low 20's. I bet you have better items than I do.

Im all set ATM. I do a lot of merchant trading and crafting

Fishpicker 02-04-2013 09:36 PM

oh one more thing. when you do a quest and go back for a reward, always check the entire list of gems and take the one that requires the highest level to use. even if it is something that you don't need, someone else needs it and they will trade for it.

Imon Yourside 02-04-2013 10:40 PM

Where do i trade?

Fishpicker 02-04-2013 11:59 PM

just do it through chat. press enter to bring up the chat window. press $ then enter to bring up trade chat. all the trade chat is in orange text. start off by asking what is a fair price for the spell totem gem. people will tell you what the gem is worth in orbs. Then you should announce in trade chat that you wtb spell totem. if you need a certain orb, you can trade lesser orbs for the orb you need at the merchants in town. you can negotiate a trade; rare items(s) for gem, orbs for gem, or gem(s) for gem. most trades are paid for in orbs btw. just make sure you do all your announcing with the dollar sign ($). then make sure you do all your negotiating in whispers. type @charactername to send a whisper to that player. once you work out a trade, invite the player to your party or tell them to invite you to their party. make arrangements to meet in a town. if they open a town portal, wait for them to come to town. do not jump the gun and take the portal to their location. don't take the portal even if they tell you to. just insist that they come to you. once you meet up you just drag and drop what you are trading into the trade window. before the trade can be approved you must scroll your mouse cursor over the item they are trading to you. once you do that, you click the approve trade button and wait for them to approve. once approved by both players, you're all done, leave the party before you run off.

here's something else that will come in handy. you can show items in the chat box. this is the proper way to offer items, gems, and orbs for trade. first open your inventory screen. then open the chat box. press $ before you enter in any text so that it shows up in trade chat. ctrl + alt + left click the item you want to show in chat. type whatever text you want then press enter. when you do that, it will show the items to other players. if you want to look at items that are being offered, open your chat window, then scroll over the items. it will show you a picture of the item and a list of all the stats. make sure you show the items that you want to trade away. And make sure that you are using the trade chat when you announce that you are buying and selling. if you dont, the mods will give you a warning. chat spammers get suspended sometimes.

Started playing this last night. Pretty good game. Excellent if you consider the fact that it's completely free.

Ya starting out is great, the game gets a lot harder around lvl 30 or so...At least it did for me.

Imon Yourside 02-06-2013 01:20 AM

This isn't my favorite part of the game, only reason I hate partying. I have to spend more time looking at loot than fighting...
