It is how it works in the NFL, we are just doing it slower....think of it as the agent on the phone with one team while he has 4 others on hold to see who gives the most.

Hmmm. Miami tried to throw a lot of money at Jake Long this off-season. When he signed with the Rams, they turned their sights toward Branden Albert. When that didn't pan out they moved on again.

I'm sure the process can be improved, but I don't see much merit in your complaint.

MagicHef 06-13-2013 09:50 AM

The prices can only go up, so the money will run out at some point. If you want it to go faster, simply bid more so the prices go up faster.

Right. If a team has allocated 30% of it's 1300 dollars to one player, then it stands to reason that there are areas being ignored to afford that player. If 50% of your team is on one year contracts, allowing you to be aggressive in FA this year, next year's allocation won't cover the holes left by players leaving.
It's a lot easier to say "**** it!" and quit playing than it is to try to fix that.

Heh. I see your point. It would be interesting to know how some of these teams have structured their roster.

I have a lot of FA dollars because I'm planning for the short term. Brady's getting old so I'm basically on a 3-year run to win the championship, and then I plan on blowing the team up. Hence, no one on my team is signed longer than 4 years.

Will this come back to bite me? We'll see, but it's going to be awhile before that comes to pass. I'm planning on sucking anyway.

Ya I get what you guys are saying, I apologize ill get a little more patient with this thing. Just super frustrating

Oh yeah...I will throw a 2yo-style epic fit when I think I've finally landed my player I really want and someone bumps me with 1 hour left and I've spent all the money I'd need to try again.

My boat is the same year, model, HP and color. Instead of the upgraded Brady stereo system, I got the older Manning type.

I think I've probably screwed up with mine.

My goal was overall efficiency. I crunched the hell out of some numbers, figured out when certain players would be FAs, how long I wanted others and how to structure contracts to keep their costs as low as possible over that 4-10 year period that I wanted to keep guys. I then moved things around wherever possible to ensure I didn't have too many FAs that I wanted long term in any given year.

I gave Rodgers a 3 yr deal with the intention of giving him a 5 year deal after those 3 in order to keep his price more manageable as well; that 7 year deal to a QB was just brutal.

But unfortunately, I think I've ended up in that hellish middle; not enough FA money to really matter, but I've also not freed up shitloads of cap space for any given year.

All I've really done is make sure that I shouldn't ever really have to worry about getting my draft picks signed and could be able to make an over-market bid on a mid-tier FA every year or two.

As I've seen this unfold, I think I'd have just preferred to frontload my deals and see how things look in 3 years.

mrroandrro 06-14-2013 09:47 AM

The only thing that bothers me about this free agency is when you have made a bid, then someone waits until the time is almost up and make a bid $1 higher. You have been waiting almost 3 days, then someone scoops in at the last second, and starts the time all over for $1. Ughhh, I know its their money to use how they please, but that just seems disrespectful. At least make it a nice round number. That's all I got.
On another note, once I land Chris Harris Jr, I may have the sickest group of cornerbacks in the league.

(runs off to up the Harris Jr. bid by $1)

Ok...I managed to get up over 53 players on the roster, I know rain main asked about it before when I was asking what would happen. I was at 52, and had 4 players bid on that were close together in time. The first two have gone through, and oddly one of them is on my roster even though there is an hour left on the bid.

I'll cut some players once it is time to bid some more, but wanted to mention it since we talked about it before.

Wait, what? He's on your roster and is still in the free agent bidding pool?

Oh, and thanks for the update.

Just to confirm, are you sure he wasn't on your roster before and you coincidentally pursued him? We've had a couple of instances of that, but we haven't had an instance yet of a guy getting assigned early. That's weird.

Thank you. After further evaluation, my CB crew was already solid with Cortland Finnegan, Cary Williams and my 1st rounder Morris Claiborne. I bid too much for Harris Jr, a position I was already solid at, and was looking for a way out. Now not only do I have my money back, but someone else just coughed up some major dough. Hook, line, and sinker.

I don't think so, not unless the previous owner had him and released him at some point before I took over.

EDIT: I also know that before FA started, I had 52 people on roster. I signed two and it jumped to 55 and Smith was on there while still on the clock. Now he is signed for real with another player and it went up to 56, which is correct.

Are you sure your browser screen was current when you said there was a hour on the clock and DJ Smith was signed?

I had just re-loaded it to see the other two players were cleared, it might have been something where it was loading it from cache though, not sure.

I really really really wish I was here at the beginning, I feel like whoever had my team didn't really pick very well.

Next up, we post the week by week availability, which we're working on now, and update the depth chart stuff so you can build your depth charts and offensive/defensive philosophies.

And then we do this ....

I have a pretty good guess that's why they abandoned the team's to begin with? :banghead:
I've turned half my roster over & the players' I have that are good are on the wrong side of 20. :deevee:

Vince Lombardi and Chuck Noll had the same issue. When you make the turnaround, you never have to buy a meal again in your home city.

News Update:

We will be turning on the depth charts, updating player availability by week, and turning on the game planning elements early next week, perhaps as early as Sunday. You can use this to get your team up and running.

Kickoff for Week 1 is currently planned for July 1st. We will play the season relatively quickly because we want to get the 2013 offseason completed (2013 draft) prior to the NFL kickoff.

Good luck, everybody! And remember, you're undefeated right now.

Slight correction:

Kickoff for Week 1 is currently planned for July 8th.

Also all settings in the game planning will go to default values, so if you have any schemes you're fond of you may want to write them down.

Apologies. I keep meaning to make the conversion to the Julian calendar, but have had other priorities.

Just FYI: Got this while I was over roster limit...wanted to pass on the error page at bottom.

You are presently ineligible to bid on free agents because your roster size is greater than 53 players or some players on your roster are not under contract. Go to the manage roster page to address these issues.

I like how the draft is going to be before the season. It was to easy to just pick guys based on stats.

Damn, I didn't even think about that. I just picked them based on who the St. Louis Spiders bid for.

When trying to offer a trade: I select the team I wish to trade with to select their player. The page refreshes automatically and my team is reselected. Unable to offer a trade.

That keeps happening to me. Just select some other teams and futz with it until it lets you do what you want.

rtmike 07-02-2013 02:34 AM

I usually click on a team (any) on the right just completely get out of current mode.

If that doesn't work, I shut completely shut down everything, (not the power), but the current window & start over. Any trades offers' that you've started to build will stay.

I haven't got one solution dialed that works every time but clicking on any team on the right usually does the trick.

Rain Man 07-02-2013 01:18 PM

That's a weird problem because we didn't have that problem last year. I bet a squirrel got caught in the machinery or something.

cdcox 07-02-2013 06:12 PM

I tried to fix the problem where trades would hang and created the new problem. Need to think through this one again...

Bug: Reposted here so it doesn't get missed. Andy Lee was listed as out for week 2. He was never hurt in 2012. Andy Lee started and made all punts during the week 2 game.
