What's the weirdest shit you listen to?

I'm going to be shameless for a minute and ask for your most unusual music recommendations.

I'm in need of some new stuff that doesn't sound like anything else in my collection.

Throw me your weirdest shit. It doesn't even have to be good -- just, ****ing strange music.

YouTubes are encouraged, but just tell me the artist/album/song and I'll look it up on my own.

ANY and ALL recommendations are welcomed. Expand me.

Animal Collective. Their new stuff is downright melodic compared to their older material. Still a fun listen.

Ceej 02-11-2013 10:23 PM

Probably Skrillex.

Oh, and Ace of Base.

Pablo 02-11-2013 10:23 PM

Weird huh? Here's some weird shit. Hope you enjoy. Oh, and like phish said Animal Collective deserves a serious nod too.

Recommendations? Animal Collective has like eight albums.

I already have Sung Tongs (one of my favorites), Feels, and Merriweather Post Pavilion.

My favorite music of all time. Big Band.

Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen - Performed by Janis Segal in the movie Swing Kids (really a fantastic musical with Christian Bale & Robert Sean Leonard of Wilson fame on House).

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/XwKf5rXSBHI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Louis Prima - Oh Marie

Louis Jordan - Buzz me Baby
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/DCWUvI7yKtQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Cab Calloway - Jumpin Jive (just the first 1:45 though the rest is pretty neat)
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/_8yGGtVKrD8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Django Reinhardt - Le Meilleur de Django - Minor Swing (w/Stéphane Grappelli on violin)
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/kxW4FIlO58o" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Duke Ellington - It Don't Mean A Thing

I am a Alice n' Chains, Pearl Jam, STP guy, though.

Scott Walker is pretty weird, but still a fun listen.

Sorry, I don't know how to imbed, but you should watch the video as well it adds to the experience. Check out Merzbow if you are into some harsher noise type stuff.

I've heard some Merzbow. Really intense shit. If you have an album or song to recommend, please do so. He's made like 50 albums.

As for Scott Walker, I am a huge fan of The Drift, the only album of his I've listened through. You're right, he is definitely out there. Really challenging music.

Edit: I'm listening through "Epizootics!" right now, and it is gorgeous. Any more recommendations, fire away.

Wow. I thought I listened to some weird shit. You guys are off the damn walls. Where did you find this stuff? I'm going to spend a lot of time looking through this.

Direkshun, I apparently listen to pretty mainstream shit, but here are my off the beaten path recommendations...

Taking Back Sunday - All their albums are good, but I like the first and second ones the best.

OAR - I'm sure you know them

If you haven't checked out the Piano Guys, do it.

You're probably not into Country but check out Turnpike Troubadours Diamonds and Gasoline album. Along with Jason Boland Pearl Snaps.

I'll do some more thinking on it. I'm sure there is some more stuff that I could come up with.

Nzoner 02-11-2013 11:26 PM

Maybe not so much weird as different but Alabama 3 is a fav of mine. They have a lot of different sounds and you probably know them best if you ever watched The Sopranos as they sang the opening song Woke Up This Morning.

Daniel Johnston. He's a folk singing Christian fundamentalist with Bi-polar. I really like his early stuff, he played his music on old out-of-tune pianos and guitars. He would record a bunch of songs on to cassette tapes and pass them out. Then, he would do it again because he didn't have a way to dub.

About anything by HOS (Hearts Of Space) some pretty weird trippy stuff but most is very melodic and peaceful.

I like the Tibetan Bronze bells, Russian Orthodox Cathedral Music, Baroque Voices to name a few.

This isn't Hearts of Space per se but close enough to get an idea:

You'll probably recognize his name from tons of movie soundtracks and producer credits for other artists, but his own music is incredible in its own right, wanna take a trip to the ninth ring of saturn without leaving the couch? then check out some Brian Eno...

This is a bit hit or miss with me. I liked a couple of the tracks (loved the second one).

These are both excellent tracks! The second one had a warm IDM vibe to it.

The first was just an indulgent mess.

Moar!
