Cutting cable...
So, I've done some digging and initially it seems a bit time consuming, but wondering if anyone here could point me in the right direction.
We spend a lot on Verizon bundles... cell, tv, cable, FIOS... Curious about unbundling and dropping. Honestly, the shows we watch (aside from live sports) can be had elsewhere, and cheaper. Where might one start looking for options to venture out cut the cable? Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, etc - I get all that. I have a Smart TV (Samsung)... guess it boils down to just getting fast internet service and then the antenna option for local/live sports, right? |
There are a couple of threads on that.
Here's one on general cutting of cable. Are you thinking of going with a full-on HTPC? Regardless, you probably want to look into XBMC (now called, unfortunately, Kodi). The current favorite budget box for XBMC seems to be the FireTV. Don't give up on live sports, as Sportsdevil pretty much gets you whatever you want (though not always in HiDef). So basically you'd need to get a FireTV then follow the instructions on installing XBMC on it. From there, the sky's the limit as to what you can do. |
I'm at HD antenna and Netflix. $7.99 a month plus whatever I spend on drafts at the pub for NHL and NFL games to be fair. The only channels I liked history, discovery turned into reality TV though I do miss some military channel documentaries.
Not worth it IMHO |
