Cheap Vegas packages?
Anyone know of a good site to package flight + hotel accomodations?
Planning a trip in fall of 2013 with the girlfriend. Any help is appreciated. |
Pics or GTFO.

Vegas hasn't been "cheap" for quite some time. If you need to do it cheap, you will want to book your own travel at some of the mid range places, otherwise you will get stuck at the shitholes.

"Inexpensive" would be more apropo. I thought I read somewhere you get a less expensive overall cost if you packaged the flight and hotel. |

$225 round trip. No issues with Allegiant whatsoever. |
I recently booked the Golden Nugget for $65 per night, including a Saturday stay on Priceline. Airfare is a different story though. Southwest usually has the best deals, but even they are around $350 RT from Kansas City. I caught them running a sale a few weeks ago and got it for $270 RT.
|
Watch out for the Resort Fee rip off. A lot of casino's offer what looks like low room rates but they will stick you with a resort fee that can be as high as $20 a night.

I flew Allegiant out of Wichita last year and had no problems whatsoever. |

Here's a list of properties that do not charge resort fees. And those that do as well. http://www.vegastripping.com/resortfees/ |

Planning for next year to save up a bit. And I won't be purchasing this stuff until spring '13 some time. |

As seeing how this trip is over a year away, potentially. As far as what days we're there we are both completely flexible. I went to Vegas last September. Stayed at Mandalay Bay for free. I don't need that this time -- nothing AS nice. Just been thinking about Vegas the past 3-4 months. It's all I can think about and last time I was there I really didn't do a whole lot because my friends were there for a work convention. |

If you are looking to stay downtown, Priceline is the way to go. The Golden Nugget is the only 4-star property there, so if your bid is accepted, then you are getting the GN. Like I said, I got 3 nights at $65 per night. So $195 total pre tax/fees where it would normally cost $277. |

Right now -- I've gotten quotes from Allegiant Air (I know prices fluctuate) for around $220 round trip. I'm thinking I'll book the flight and hotel seperately. I'd prefer to stay on the new strip as opposed to the old strip. However, depending on the prices, I wouldn't rule out staying in the old strip. |

I did have to chuckle a bit, probably 75% of the times I've gone to Vegas it was planned that same day or the night before. |

given your schedule, I would work on getting credit card sign up bonuses, if that's an option. Southwest has a card right now that gives you 2 free tickets for signing up. AA always has good offers. Figure out what hotel you'd like to stay at and get a card giving points. There's a couple of great Hilton cards these days.
|
Oh, since you have a lot of time to plan, go to every casino's web site and sign up with your email address. I get stuff from them all the time with specials.

I do this because I just want it to be right. I wish I was spontaneous and had deep enough pockets to plan to go the night before or of. |

It isn't a matter of deep pockets so much as it is a matter of me living within a 5 hour drive of the place. First time I did a last-minute Vegas trip I was a grad student in Denver. We drove all day, slept in the car the first night there because we couldn't get a room. |

From the guys who have stayed on the new strip...
What hotel or hotels are generally the least expensive to stay at? |

it'll be her first. I was thinking the same thing -- the atmosphere and pretty lights would make her first trip there more fun. (new strip) |

Stay away from the Riviera, Circus Circus and the Stratosphere (North Strip). They may be quite a bit cheaper options, but there isn't much within walking distance from those properties. On the south part of the strip, Harrah's and Flamingo are probably your cheapest options. Maybe Bill's Gambling Hall too. |

Check the convention schedule and avoid the big ones like the plague. Room prices are jacked up and your hotel will be even more crowded than usual. http://www.lvcva.com/what-we-do/meet...d-conventions/ When to Visit Las Vegas by SmarterTravel Staff Rather than ask when to visit Las Vegas, you should ask when not to go: The city has become so popular that an "off season" is nonexistent. There are times to avoid Las Vegas, however, such as during New Year's, most three-day public holidays, July 4th, and school vacations. Valentine's Day is also out unless you are planning to get married—fast. Throughout the year, the city is relatively crowded and the weather remains dry and sunny. For swimmers and sunbathers, the weather is ideal from May to September. Spring and fall are the best for walking the Strip or venturing into the surrounding desert. high season: January to mid-November shoulder season: late November to December If there are times that peak more than others, they're New Year's Eve through mid-February during winter escape time and July 1 through Labor Day due to family vacations. Weather Information Crowd Information Las Vegas is less crowded between Christmas and New Year's Eve, and Tuesdays through Thursdays the rest of the year when hotels and resorts put out their best room rates and incentive packages. Typically, there are more convention attendees in the first few months of the year. Closure Information Some shows go dark just before or after big holidays. Check shows ahead of time for holiday breaks, closures, and schedule changes. When to Save To save on hotels, the best time to go is between Christmas and New Year's Eve, or during the weeks following Labor Day. However, hotels don't like to reduce rooms until they're certain they won't sell, so don't expect the best deals until the last minute. And even then, there's no guarantee. |
Do the hotwire.com deal where they don't reveal the hotel name so you get the room basically half off. And there is no worries about getting a dump because you filter it by star rating and they also show you on the map the area you will be staying. So say you choose that option and want a 3 star room. You choose your area and are guaranteed a room with that star rating within that area of the map. Then you just look at all the hotels like regular within that area so you know what to expect.
I did it a while back here in KC on a "staycation" we wanted a 4-star room. We had different options such as Kansas City-Plaza area or Kansas City-downtown/Crown Center area. We chose downtown which has four or five 4 star hotels. Ended up getting the Sheraton at Crown center for about $90 per night instead of the normal rate of almost $200. |
We anticipate on visiting some time in September.
I'm more than ready to go yesterday though too. LMAO |
I've submitted my information to 5-6 casinos.
I'll go from there. Thanks for the help guys. Any other tidbits, sales, coupons, LV traveling tips you guys may have please send them this way --- as it'll only be my second time visiting next September. |
yes, it's either the Strip or Downtown.
You can also stay at the Rio, they have shuttles to Harrahs like every half hour. |

$251 round trip airfare to vegas from MCI with taxes included:
http://www.fly.com/FlyWidgets/LowFar...utm_medium=bff great hotel deals http://www.travelzoo.com/hotels/las-vegas/ |
Golden Nugget was a hell of a deal for us last November. Couldn't beat the price at less than $70 per night. Of course, we went Sunday through Wednesday.

May look into it a bit more. |

kansascity.com, the daily deal saver, $30 for 2 night stay in Vegas.

I signed up for e-letters, texts -- for discounts and promotions for airfare AND hotel stays for Vegas.
I've gotten one from the Luxor for 50% off "tower rooms." A couple of questions. Are these the rooms at the very top of the pyramid? I'm assuming it is (meaning a smaller room) but, if it is I wouldn't be too upset with the smaller room. We wouldn't be in the room too much anyway. Is it a good deal? |
Quote:

The towers are the 2 black buildings to the left of the pyramid.

More info here.
http://www.luxor.com/hotel/hotel_tower_deluxe_room.aspx Looks decent enough. Keep in mind that other than Excalibur and Mandalay Bay, which are connected by a tram, it will be a long haul walking to any other casino on the strip. |
Quote:
I stayed at the Mandalay Bay last year. How'd I not notice the towers on the other side of the Luxor? |
Allegiant air for flight. Priceline for hotels. I've gambled enough to where I don't pay for my rooms when I come and visit. In fact I got 2 free nights at the cosmo and 3 free nights at the bellagio.

I'm telling you man, if you want to get there on the cheap, search out the best credit card sign up bonuses and take advantage. You have plenty of time.
|

What sort of promotions have you seen with credit card sign ups? |
monte carlo is the best value i think. room price is very reasonable. its not brand new or fancy but its right in the heart of the strip within walking of everything, rooms are ok (clean, again not fancy but who cares im only in the room to SSS and get a couple of z's) dealers are cool, tables arent too high, poker room is nice. i pretty much always end up here unless my wife wants something a little extra fancy
|
Quote:
So in my opinion, don't feel that Luxor is too far away, and bypass a great deal. |
Quote:
I could seriously enjoy walking up and down the strip with a drink in my hand. I would be perfectly content. The night I arrived we actually walked from Mandalay Bay to the Hooters casino for the worst .25 wings I've ever had. LMAO |

right now you can sign up for an SPG Business card (doesn't matter if you don't have a business) and get 30k SPG points, which should be enough for at least one night in a nice Starwood hotel (The Westin or The Element). You can sign up for a Southwest Airlines card and pay a $85 annual fee and get 2 free RT tickets. You can sign up for several various cards for Hilton points. Some of these do require "spends" to get the points, but there are some ways around that that don't really cost you a thing. |
Thanks Mikey.
That's all really good information to have. I will pass it on to my girlfriend and we will go from there. It is nice planning this vacation a year in advance. Appreciate it man. |
