Look at it this way. Now the people who financially support the university know that the school will not tolerate these types of actions. It breeds confidence that the money is handled in the proper manner that it should.

It wasn't his money that was used UNTIL he paid it back. I'm not sure why you're defending this.

What is he defending? He isn't saying that it was okay for the guy to do what he did. He's saying that, because the situation was handled by the university and the money was repaid, there isn't really much worth reporting.

Come on now. This is not that difficult to grasp. It is a story and one that should be reported. I do not see how any one can say otherwise.

It's a story worthy of deadspin.

I don't recall defending anything. You asked:

"You don't think the taxpayer, the donor, the alumni member deserves to know where their money is going?"

I noted that it wasn't their money going anywhere. He reimbursed the U for the tab. I suppose American Express (or whoever) could be upset, but I doubt they are.

Again, I'd have zero problem with the guy being fired. What he did was beyond stupid. I'm not sure why you've chosen to entrench yourself into such an angle, but, hey, go for it.

Nobody fired?

Only because he got caught and because school officials didn't tolerate it. Otherwise it was very much the tax and donation money being used.

People are acting like he planned to pay it back. And even if he did, that is still a gross misuse of company resources.

I'm sure most of these athletes can throw down more than 1 steak.

I'll be sure to try your logic the next time I misuse the corporate credit card. "Hey, it wasn't your money, it was mastercard's". Jesus.

Anything that takes attention away from our abortion of a season works for me.

I tried to use a credit card at the strip club but the dancer got a little pissy when I tried to swipe my card in the slot.
