I only found/sent the "small" big bottles at Costco, maybe 32ounce, but you are correct, if you started to send over gallon jugs, the shipping costs get expensive. The last care pkg I sent over cost about $160.00, but it had computer paper, printer, and lots of other goodies. PS, regular US mail gets there just as quick as any other method.

Yeah, I made the deal with people. I'm covering all shipping costs. I'm going to use those USPS large mailing boxes. No weight limit. Just whatever you can cram in the box. I'm doing pretty good. Sitting in my barcolounger bitching about the Chiefs while some of my fellow countryman are just looking foward to not getting shot at, a hot shower. This ain't chit compared to what they are doing on a daily basis. They honor us, remind us of what is best in all of us.

BigRedChief 11-12-2009 08:45 PM

Okay, I got a great idea from mlyonsd to ship some instant snow over to the troops. Just add water and instant snowball fight. That will give them some good distraction, at least until it melts.

BigRedChief 11-14-2009 10:30 PM

Total money contributed so far is now $325.00 minus paypal fees. I've contributed all the paypal fees.

We are still seeking worthy units/individuals to recieve a package. If you know of one just let me know here or PM me.

BigRedChief 11-16-2009 07:34 AM

Okay, guys I think I'm going to ask the mods to unsticky this thread. I see this as a long term project and we don't want this thread as a permanent sticky. Put it back up as a sticky a couple of weeks before Christmas. I'll still bump it with updates. Sound good? Opinons?

Sounds good to me. It's a nice thing you're doing here.

I'm just a facilitator, the Planeteers that are contributing the funds to buy the goodies are the ones making this happen. I'm just a pawn in game of life.

BTW, This is truly a bi-partisan project. As a matter of fact I think more money has been contributed by people who oppose my political views than support them. Supporting our troops has nothing to do with the politics of war. It has everything to do with honoring their service and sacrifice as a fellow citizen on a personal level.

kcchuck 11-17-2009 12:09 PM

Sorry for my delay, $ sent BRC, and thanks again for doing this!

BigRedChief 11-18-2009 08:02 AM

Total so far = $375.00

I'm going to chose to not disclose how much I'm personally paying in paypal fees and shipping costs. Would seem like bragging or something untoward. Unless someone doesn't like that idea. I've been trusted with other peoples money to provide "goodies" to our brave soldiers. Everything must be kept "above board" and transparent. And I'm not the boss. The community decides the big picture.

thawk 11-18-2009 08:33 AM

This is awsome for you to do. If you needed to you could probably raise money while tailgateing this weekend also, just an idea. Would just need to let people know where you would be if you are there. Also customes forms ask what is in the box. The troops love mouthwash. A buddy of mine always had to use Crown Royal for mouth wash because I put mouthwash on the form and it was not his fault I put a half gallon of Crown in the mail every month instead of Scope. How the game is played. He was 1st sergant so he may have had a little more leeway, but he said his CO was always asking him abiut his fresh breath so they know what is going on.

I already bought a bunch of those listerine strips that I found on sale for the packages.

I have a DOD secret clearance and a position of trust certification from the government. Can't risk fudging on the custom form. Theres no appeal, theres no process for mediation. Your clearance is pulled subjectively on purpose to keep us inline. Don't do a damn thing to risk it is the message, no matter how small.

But on the other hand my wife doesn't have a clearance.

It's the Planeteers filling the boxes, I just facilitate.

PSA:
If the Christmas spirit moves ya, a reminder.....all and I mean 100% of all contributions go to the goodies for the troops. I'm paying all the shipping costs and paypal fees. So this Christmas think about someone overseas helping defend the homeland, they are away from their family, missing their kids etc. They could use a little reminder that their fellow citizens back home remember their sacrifice and appreciate them this Christmas.

The next two boxes of goodies are on the way to Crazy Coffey. In this one, in addition to the normal goodies, I've put in some instant snow. About 7 gallons of snow. Use cold or ice water and you can have yourself a pretty good snowball fight in the desert. Or just save it for a few snowballs at a time.

He was getting empty packages with hand slap letters, lately he has to go down and open them in front of Colonol Klink or ship them back....he's not doing that and none of them have come back yet.

His group have turned in vehicles and big weapons and are not really doing a damn thing....but that didn't stop them from shipping his ass back over to lift weights and play video games for 2 more months. No mail for any of them now.

It's looking more and more like my girlfriend will get called for deployment. We are supposed to find out next week and she didn't go last time they were deployed. This isn't her unit but they have to pull people from other units to fill it. She's in the 205 Signal company.

The thing that pisses me off is some girl who does the same thing, will get the call but will get pregnant so she doesn't have to go. What a selfish move and I hope she gets caught.
