Ever been to the Buffalo/Niagra Falls area? Help me out.

Ok...here's the deal.

Traveling to Niagara Falls, ON later this year. Tell me about the procedure crossing into Canada from Buffalo...i've always flown in and out of Canada.

So....Should i fly to Buffalo and drive 45 mins, or should i fly to Toronto and drive 1:15 mins (at least that's what mapquest said)????

NIAGARA FALLS!

Slowly I turned, and step by step, inch by inch.............

Sounds like personal choice really. Price difference?

Mapquest?

I couldn't go to Niagara. I went to the Hoover Dam and just wanted to jump and fly. Really strong, and frightening, urge.

Toronto > Buffalo

Buffalo is definitely cheaper, and closer. It is the choice unless driving across the border is a pain in the ass.

The 'process' is nothing really. Normal questions.

During the winter, wait times to cross will be quick. Up to an hour during the summer.

Google estimates your drive time at 27 minutes (based simply on Buffalo --> Niagara Falls). Perhaps Mapquest figures in the wait time.

It may have changed since 2001. We used to just drive over the bridge and through the toll after we paid. Not much else. No toll to pay coming back into the US.

According to this there's been some changes since 2009.

Documents

As of June 1, 2009, people crossing the border into the United States must present proof of identity. American and Canadian citizens 16 older can use a passport, permanent resident card, enhanced driver's license, enhanced non-driver identification, a FAST card or a Nexus card. American and Canadian citizens younger than 16 must present a copy of their birth certificate, a Canadian citizenship card or naturalization certificate. Citizens of other countries must produce a passport.

You might want to read the link where I got that.

I was just there two months ago. I would go to Buffalo myself.

I took the train into Buffalo and walked across the border (after getting myself from Buffalo to Niagara NY, which was no easy feat). The guard was kind of snitty with me since this is apparently not common, but he just asked about four questions and let me through. I figure driving is the same way.

As an aside, it's very hard to find the border crossing if you're walking. There's a big car crossing so that's easy to find, but when you're walking you have to go down a path through a parking lot and then basically duck behind a building through a little breezeway that's not easily noticed. It almost seems like it's the place where the workers take out the trash. I walked all over that place trying to find it, and it doesn't show up well on google maps. You'd think that a bridge would be easy to see, but it wasn't.
