Desktop comparison

I need a new desktop. The one I have is from 2007 and can't do shit anymore. I'm not a techie. I just want to walk into Best Buy and walk out with something that'll surf the web and not crash every two minutes. I don't play games or do anything like that.

They have some obvious cheap shit computers, stuff with four gigs of memory for only 200 or 300 bucks. There are two midrange computers that I'm considering, that I need opinions on: a Lenovo h50-90b70017us ($500) vs. an HP 500-424 ($450). The HP has a 2TB HD vs. Lenovo's 1TB, and the HP has 8G memory vs. Lenovo's 6GB. But the Lenovo is i3 and the HP is A8. Any suggestions, that don't involve aids trees or anti-freeze?

Go to a Microsoft store instead of Best Buy. Their computers don't come with pre-installed crapware and I've found their reps to be knowledgable, helpful and extremely honest. I went in to compare prices on laptops for my brother-in-law, showed the guy what I'd found at Costco and he told me to go get the machine from Costco.

They're aping the model for the Microsoft stores from Apple so I'm sure they will help migrate your data when you get the new computer too.

Obvious cheap shit computers work just fine for surfing the web.

If you really only surf the web you could get a Mac Mini ($499) but for a real computer :D ... main thing to look at is getting Windows 8.1 and 8GB ram or more. Processor shouldn't matter for web surfing. I recommend Windows 8.1 not because it is a great OS but because you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

1) I like Lenovo desktops quite a bit.... have 3 in my small office and can't complain (about the computers, not the staff).

2) I'd go i3 over AMD also.

3) It's cheaper from Lenovo directly.

I am not a tech person, but i can say i have had a bad experience with just about every HP desktop/laptop i have ever come in contact with. Just my $.02.

Any name branded computer is using POS binned parts, please build your own. Its like grown-up legos.
