Drugs and alcohol

Would you support the legalization of weed if it meant making alcohol illegal?

Dayze 01-30-2013 09:23 AM

sure, why not. as long as drug tests were illegal too.
:)

tooge 01-30-2013 09:24 AM

Growing weed smells MUCH better.

Dayze 01-30-2013 09:26 AM

not to get completely DC/off-track, but the fact that weed is illegal is reeruned.

and I haven't smoked in probably 20 years.

okoye35chiefs 01-30-2013 10:05 AM

where is the abstain from both option? :bolt:

BigMeatballDave 01-30-2013 10:06 AM

Having done both, alcohol is far more dangerous when abused.

I voted no. I'm not a fan of either, but the smell of marijuana makes me nauseous. If people are drinking alcohol it doesn't impact me unless they kill me with their car. If people are smoking marijuana it pervades the air around them and makes me sick. And I live in Denver, so I know what I'm talking about.

That's a pretty big "unless".

I think it's interesting that the poll is split exactly down the middle, btw.

Predarat 01-30-2013 10:27 AM

Next poll idea:

Would you allow the gubbment to ban knives if they back off Gun Control?

Yeah, I wouldn't want that to happen.

It's a classic case of having two scenarios: something really bad that's really rare, or something that's slightly bad that's common. In my case, I think the more common thing has a bigger lifestyle impact when you play the odds.

I wouldn't want a bus driver on any substance. But if I were forced to choose between the two, I'd rather have a driver stoned than drunk. The impairment from pot is "Safer" behind the wheel than the impairment from booze.

My bus driver back in school was an alcoholic....

I've noticed one problem is that there is this perception that people who smoke weed are under the influence of it 24/7 and never stop smoking. It's like saying everyone who has a beer is drunk 24/7, except nobody really assumes that. Most people enjoy a drink once and a while yet it is assumed they are not an alcoholic. Anyone who smokes weed, no matter the frequency, is assumed to be a 24/7 burn out.

Bowser 01-30-2013 11:09 AM

Voted no, but there is no good reason for weed to be illegal.

I still have no clue why they don't legalize it. The tax revenue alone would pull us out of debt in a remarkably short time.

It would make a dent for sure but make no mistake, there's more than just weed fueling that empire...

Ace Gunner 01-30-2013 11:59 AM

obviously, alcohol is far more dangerous drug to societies.

I would firmly support a prohibition ban :D

I would also support transferring those 60% of drug war prisoners in american prisons into medically staffed nut houses equipped to handle and rehabilitate them -- and for far less a burden to our tax system.

ThaVirus 01-30-2013 12:01 PM

I drink too often to be ok with that trade..

But I do recognize the fact that alcohol is basically poison and much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much more dangerous (to you and everyone else) when abused.

I can't ****ing believe weed is still illegal after all these years.

Ace Gunner 01-30-2013 12:08 PM

Lumpy 01-30-2013 12:28 PM

In my line of work I deal with mostly business owners and over the years after gaining a relationship/trust with them it's amazing how many of them smoke weed and for the most part they're all quite successful business owners with a great work work ethic and major creativity/ideas.

I work with some high profile individuals in companies with household names.

The idea that potheads are all burned-out losers is fallacious to say the least.

Not interested in making drinking illegal but the number of people who can't control it and the extent to which it effects their lives while that process gets glorified is always shocking.

Because weed is not fun, AT ALL IMO. Truth be told, I do agree it's less dangerous than alcohol. But it is like the least fun drug ever. Makes me just want to sit around, do nothing, and stare at something.

Weed takes a few hits to get a head change, and typically a joint costs about $5 that you can share with a group of people.

It takes about 6 beers to get me buzzed, and then I'm bloated and I wake up with a headache the next day. 6 beers at a restaurant or bar is about $25+.

DaFace 01-30-2013 02:39 PM

Oohh...that's a tough one. I'd say yes simply because I'm 100% sure that it's the less harmful of the two drugs in terms of impact on personal health and societal health both.

However, it's really not realistic to think that alcohol will ever be illegal in this country again. There's way too much money tied up in it to think you could actually shut it down. Not to mention the fact that prohibition of either of them is useless.
