Congrats to Curly Culp HOF bound

He deserves his own thread!

Sorry to Chiefs greats Will Shields & Otis Taylor. They both deserve it just a matter of time.

This is a great for Chiefs and a great honor for Curly Culp he is amongst an elite group of HOFers that won Super Bowl IV.

Bump 02-02-2013 09:41 PM

it's always good to see a former Chief get in even if it's before my time.

Curley Culp was a beast on the D-line. I'm amazed that it took this long for him to get in. IMO he was the second-best player on the Chiefs Super Bowl team (the best being Bobby Bell).

Shaid 02-03-2013 01:43 PM

Never saw him play but glad to see a Chief get in again.

IMO...Otis Taylor belonged in before Culp.

kysirsoze 02-03-2013 02:00 PM

Nice! Taylor really needs to get in, though.

Otis Taylor was a GREAT receiver, but I doubt he ever gets into the HOF, and that's a shame. He just doesn't have the stats that the voters look for. Never mind that he played in an era when teams passed the ball a LOT less: the voters have just never seemed interested in him.

Those Chiefs teams won because of their defense, which is why I'd pick Culp over Taylor if only one can get in.

The Chiefs SB IV Defense now has 5 players in the HOF.

The Steeler's Steel curtain has 4.

Clyde Frog 02-03-2013 03:28 PM

Oh man! Thats the first time I went to KCChiefs.com since Pioli took over and made it boring as ****.

I wish I could have seen that super IV team play live.

I really didnt know much about the guy, but the highlight reel was a true eye opener... he WAS a beast, looked like an absolute force and also looked like a HUGE man for his day.

He looks a lot bigger than 6'2" 265lbs in those videos. He'd be tiny on the DL today.

Schottenheimer 02-03-2013 03:53 PM

Wish will shields would have made it in but Curley Culp is a good start!

Yeah, he certainly looks much bigger than that.

Its funny how big guys have gotten, he'd have to play end these days.

L.C. Greenwood would be a legit addition. But Johnny Robinson might have a stronger case.

DaWolf 02-03-2013 05:01 PM

@ClarkJudgeCBS: Congrats to Warren Sapp on being second best DT in this year's HOF class. That's how good Curley Culp was.

Rasputin 02-03-2013 05:27 PM

HOFer Curly Culp

listopencil 02-03-2013 06:15 PM

Yup. A well earned honor. I picked him in the CP all time draft that we had on here years ago. I think the thread was lost in a server upgrade.

Mojo Jojo 08-02-2013 04:01 PM

Bump...Someone had to do it since he is inducted this weekend. Congratulations Curly!!! Great to have another Chief going into the hall.

Rain Man 08-02-2013 04:37 PM

Good for Mr. Culp.

The Chiefs' Hall of Fame count now stands at

RBs - 0/1
QBs - 1/2
Receivers - 0/0
OL - 0/2
STs - 1/0
DBs - 1/0
LBs -3/0
DLs - 2/0
Owners/Coaches - 2/1

(The first number is guys who got their fame in KC, and the second number is guys who passed through KC but got famous somewhere else.)

It's interesting that we have no receivers and that, for a team that talks a lot about OL, we don't have a home-grown offensive lineman in the Hall yet. In fact, Len Dawson is the only homegrown offensive Chief to enter the Hall.

In contrast, we're a pretty good team from a DL/LB perspective, as well as management.

Taylor and Robinson should be in the HOF. Pisses me off.

That's the most on one unit in NFL history isn't it?

Sadly Lenny is not a home grown Chief either. At least he was drafted and played for another team first.

gblowfish 08-03-2013 09:26 AM

Curley was a bad mofo. Well deserved, very proud of him, and hope he goes in as a Chief.
