Netflix Officially Confirms The Punisher's Solo Series

I didn't see a thread about this, so...

(Warning: If you haven't yet seen Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil Season 2, then the following contains minor SPOILERS, albeit largely implied ones. Proceed with whatever level of caution that suggests to you is wise...)

Now, while there was a lot to love about Marvel and Netflix's recently released second season of Daredevil, for most fans one particular element in the new series stood out above all the rest: Jon Bernthal's take on iconic Marvel anti-hero Frank 'The Punisher' Castle. With Bernthal bringing a subtle, soulful, endlessly tortured quality to the role, and the show giving him plenty to do, it always seemed likely that we'd be seeing a spin-off series sooner rather than later - yet both Marvel and Netflix refused to confirm that it was anything more than a possibility. Until now, that is. Y'see...

Netflix Just Officially Confirmed That a Punisher Series is on its Way

Now, when the show will actually arrive remains a little unclear - sometime in 2017 seems the most likely - but just knowing that it's on its way, having received a series order, is seriously good news. With the anti-hero having built up a handful of intriguing relationships during the course of Daredevil Season 2 - not to mention his having ended the series poised to set off on a fascinating path - it's reassuring to know that we'll get to see Frank Castle explored even further. What's more, with Punisher getting his own solo series, it now seems even more likely that we'll see him teaming up with Netflix's other Marvel heroes in the eagerly anticipated team-up series The Defenders. Now, if they could just get Spider-Man to drop in too...

What do you reckon, though?

Villain will probably be Jigsaw but perhaps Barracuda.

I don't know if they will use The Punisher in The Defenders. Krysten Ritter is saying that Jessica Jones season two and The Defenders will be filmed very closely together though:

The Defenders/Jessica Jones

Speaking to Digital Spy, Krysten Ritter says that the Netflix crossover show and the second season of Jessica Jones will shoot back to back:
They’ll be back-to-back. I don’t know if they’ll overlap a little bit. It’s about to be a serious undertaking. I’m starting my physical training - lots of weight training and boxing.
Meanwhile, she also teased the possibilities the second season could bring—including appearances from other Marvel characters:
I’m excited to see what happens next for Jessica, and the end of season one left a lot of doors open and questions unanswered. Kilgrave was her reason for getting up every morning. Saving people gave her purpose. I wonder how emotionally taxed she’s going to be now. That opens a lot of doors as to who will come out and play. We all live in the same universe, so there are endless possibilities.

The teaser doesn't seem to be showing up in the OP. I copied and pasted it from Twitter (I think) and it just looks like a big blank spot to me now. Here's the teaser on YouTube:

Wow!! Badass, this guy really kills his roles. He was great on the big screen to ( Fury ) he has probably been working his whole life to get noticed. He started big time with "The a Walking dead" but he hit the mark with the punisher so hard...

Just amazing

AND it did well enough to get some extra $$$ thrown its way.

I don't like how they "nerfed" her and Cage. With more $ at their disposal they might rectify that...

It's a fine line though. I don't want them to be overpowered or they ruin the story.

Yeah. Tough maintaining equilibrium when switching between super hero weight classes in a movie or TV show. Punisher should be great in a solo series with him against armies of underworld bosses. Or send him to Columbia or something.

One reason I'm looking forward to the Black Widow solo movie. She gets lost in the Avengers, but would be great as a solo hero up against similar strength villains in a more political action thriller.
