http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Show_and_Display

Generally allows < 2500 miles per year for cars with special limited production status or significance. Of the Nisimo Z-Tune only 19 were ever made and there's already a different R34 of significantly higher production numbers already approved. Wouldn't be a problem at all to get the highest end GT-R in the states. Hell with unlimited funds it wouldn't be a problem at all to get it brought in 100% approved even without the Show and Display exemption. It just requires money to do the testing/mods.

Huh, I knew about the age exemption but I wasn't aware of that one. I also don't know if the GT-R was limited enough in production numbers to qualify.

Yea the exemption was originally put into place so Bill Gates could get his XJ220 into the country. For the car to be eligible for this it needs to be limited production of significant value. The stock GT-Rs aren't limited enough to count. There is one VSPEC R34 type that has already bee allowed in, an early limited production model. The Z-Tunes were a factory special version 20 were planned but only 19 were actually made. In theory it shouldn't have a problem at all with the Show & Display eligibility.
