no, of course not. But forcing them to work 20 hour days with no increase in pay and no matter what happens you can't call out. That's pretty shitty. I don't blame them for acting out when they are being abused.

How the **** do you know that they aren't getting an increase in pay?

A large portion of them will be scheduled to come in several hours before, effectively ruining their holiday.

With that said, I understand the store needs to make money to pay you and if you took the job you pretty much have to nut up or shut up. I've quit a few jobs over scheduling issues (I was once schedule to work Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New Years Eve, AND New Years day, ALL IN ONE SEASON- **** that shit!) so there's always that option. The thing is, as someone mentioned earlier, where does it stop? This is obviously an attempt by both Wal-Mart and Target to one-up each other. You just have to wonder where it will stop..

So overnight workers are shocked they have to work overnight on one of the busiest days? LOL

And you guys aren't paying close attention. Target is NOT trying to one up Wal-mart or other stores because they are one of the ones not opening at 8 pm. Sure they don't want to miss out but they are least opening an hour later. And this crap about them getting there a few hours early? Maybe management but the regular workers have no reason to get there before 8:30 if the place was prepared properly the day and night before.

They get overtime, moron.

They're not being remotely abused.

They should do a little research into history to see real worker's abuse.

That's the basic reasoning behind black Friday....IMO if they want to start the sales thanksgiving day, start them at 11pm or midnight so people can spend the day with family and go to the store around 8pm to get the sale going.

it's okay dude, you are better than all of those worthless people. So you can chill knowing that.

I've always tried to understand other people's problems rather than just pointing and laughing at them without fully understanding. It's called kindness, it's rare in today's world.

I worked in management for a large retail corporation for 5 years and never heard about any hourly employee being forced to work a 20 hour day.

The sale starts at 9PM at Target. So you figure they have to be there 1-2 hours before it opens (which could be less depending on how the store is setup). You're telling me that all day Thanksgiving until 7 PM isn't enough time? If it isn't....go get a ****ing different job.

The Franchise 11-17-2012 01:25 PM

Oh my God.....I should totally get a petition together because on Election day....my job makes me work 20-22 hours in one day. And then I have to turn around and be here the next day at 8 AM.

Oh wait....I get paid overtime. I should shut my ****ing mouth.

L.A. Chieffan 11-17-2012 01:30 PM

The overtime doesn't always happen. Usually doesn't unless they're working more than 8 hours in a shift. Just because it's "black Friday" doesn't mean they get extra pay. Just another minimum wage day.

If they're hired as part time employees......they already know that. The store doesn't have to give them 40 hours.

If they don't have to be to the store until 7 or 8pm, they need to STFU and go to work. I was under the impression that they would have to be there much earlier.

Here is my question, though.

Does the store manager have to be there at the same time as the average Joe workers? I'm not talking about dept managers or mid level guys...does the store manager have to work that night?

Most major retailers pay "holiday pay" which is a guaranteed 8 hours on top of your normal pay.

Exactly. So they're giving up their time with they're family to go work for peanuts and then come back during "normal" hours and do it again.

Most of them are probably convicts or drug users so I say **** em anyways. They probably don't have any family to speak of anyways. Low lifes who deserve to be looked down upon. If I want my goddamn $10 toaster at 10 PM Thanksgiving night those mother ****ers better be giving thanks they have a job to sell it to me. Nawwhatimsayin'
