Need gaming headphone recommendation

For Christmas my oldest boy asked for "headphones with surround sound and a mic that will work on a pc and a 360". Ive heard from a couple people that turtle beach phones break easy and their warranty service is horrible (dont know how true this is). I'd like to spend $100 or less if possible. Any suggestions?

I don't know how good of a surround sound headset you are going to get for $100. The really good ones are $250 and up. I've heard the sound quality for Tritton Ax Pro's are really good but have heard that Tritton's don't last very long. Maybe somebody here can vouch for them, I have Astro A40's. The Tritton AX Pro's are listed at $167 on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Preci.../dp/B0017IUFAE.

Tritton's are less expensive then the Astro A40's and the high end turtle beach surround sound headsets.

Should have known. He may not be getting surround sound then unless he doesn't want anything else.

I just got the audio glow or w/e their called, from GameStop for $80. Their not surround sound, but they are pretty nice. Ps3, Xbox, pc, phones, and mp3's

You'd be surprised at how good some of the lower end headsets are. After buying my wife's and mine, i can't imagine dropping $250 on a head set.

She has a $30 Plantronics headset and her mic is loud and crystal clear over Skype. They have good bass and excellent sound quality. I was honestly shocked at how good they sounded when i first put them on. It made me jealous enough to go buy a set for myself.

My head set was about 40-50 dollars. Some no name company i've never heard of, but once again, crystal clear mic and thumping bass. I can put my hands over the speakers and feel the bass. They get far more loud than i'll ever need. http://hothardware.com/News/Genius-I...aming-Headset/

I dont think either headset that we purchased will work on a 360, but my point is: Don't be afraid of the cheaper models. After listening to the $250 headsets at Bestbuy, and listening to my $50 headset, i honestly cant tell what makes the expensive ones $200 better.

Turtle Beach X-Series are really good headphones; just don't throw them around.
Logitech makes some nice, inexpensive gaming headphones for the PC; they are in the $120-$150 range.

Shop at Fry's if you have one close to you. Personally, i think Turtle Beach is a little overpriced when you can get great headsets from Logitech, Creative Sound, Sound Blaster etc for less money.

I think it's the true 7.1 surround sound (which is a MUST if you want to beat the best on games like COD) that makes the difference. My old X41's, which I got from Buck, are freaking amazing.

As far as suggesting a pair right now, I would go with Razer Tiamat or Megalodon. They come with native amps, which is really nice.
