What's your favorite board game?

My son is getting older and we're able to play games that the wife and I can play. Right now we're on a Monopoly kick. What are some good fun board games you guys enjoy. I heard Apples to Apples is fun as well, might give it a try.

I thought my daughter would never tire of chutes and ladders. Every time she'd bring it out I'd have to mix myself a bourbon.

I get bored with most board games about 1/2 way through. Not so with Sequence. Its pretty damn fun and the games go fast. It is a trumped up version of Connect 4 with cards.

How old is your son?

My favorite adolescent-friendly board game is Rail Baron, but I suspect that it's out of print. Each player drives a train from destination to destination earning money for hauling cargo. Each time you reach a destination, you get paid and can use that money to buy up sections of the railroad. If you ride on your own railroads, it's free, but if you have to ride on someone else's railroad, you pay rent, like in monopoly. It's a simple enough game that you can have a lot of fun cross talk while you play and it's balanced to the point that most people are within reach of a victory when you get to the end game.

Another, newer railroad game that I've played once with a group of adults and teenagers is called Ticket to Ride. It was fun too based on limited exposure and if anything it's simpler than Rail Baron if your son is more like 7 or 8. Here's an episode of TableTop (a youtube board game program) where they play Ticket to Ride.

This isn't a board game per se, it's a card game, but not really. It was my favorite game in college.

Risk is pretty good. Maybe clue?

Stratego. The electronic version was fun in the day, as well.
