Who should be the next FIVE Chiefs Ring of Honor inductees?
They select one person per year for this honor. It appears that there's a general policy of waiting until the person has been retired from the NFL for at least five seasons, regardless of whether it's retired from the Chiefs or some other team. For that reason, I'm not including any active NFL players on this list. So no voting for Patrick Mahomes II or Derrick Johnson.
From the list in the lengthy poll to follow, pick the FIVE people who you think SHOULD be the next five. (This is not who you think WILL be, but who you think SHOULD be.) Gimme a minute on the poll. As background, here are the guys already on the Ring. Or in the Ring. Not sure of the terminology. 1970s 1970*Lamar Hunt, team founder and owner 1971 #36*Mack Lee Hill, Running back 1972 #75*Jerry Mays, Defensive tackle 1973 #84*Fred Arbanas, Tight end 1974 #42*Johnny Robinson, Safety 1975 #88*Chris Burford, Wide receiver 1976 #55*E. Did the chiefs pay you to find out?

How come people don't post polls first before they post the rest...I mean, the suspense is KILLING me...
|
Longest term season ticket holder needs to be on the ring. That's a lot of money spent and a lot of heartache.

Need more options

I say just put Mahomes in there now.

Wow, I will cast my votes out of respect for the Chiefs legends...and the amount of time you invested in that list.
Waters Anders Woods Peterson Hasty Dave Szott almost made the cut, but that holding call against the 'Phins... |
Waters, Carter, Dante Hall, Anders
|
No Eric Warfield?

Alex had a higher AV score as well as more pro bowls than some of those names
Just sayin |
I would go with (in descending order):
Tamba Hali Jamaal Charles Brian Waters Dante Hall Trent Green Trent barely edged out Dale Carter, James Hasty, Kimble Anders, and Willie Roaf. Roaf is a tough to consider given his short tenure. If Carter hadn't screwed up off the field so much I'd give him the nod over Trent. |

I only went with 3. Carter, Charles, and Hali. 3 guys drafted by the Chiefs that we're impact players and stayed in KC until near the end of their careers. I excluded Trent, Roaf, Allen, and some of the others because their time in KC was less than half of their careers. I liked Dante and wouldn't be opposed to him being g up there. He was a dynamic return man, but not ever all that great on offense, so I left him off too.
|
Sure is a lot of meh in that list. There might be a couple/few/several years of no inductees.
|
Charles, Tamba, LJ, Dante. Fifth was either Carter or Waters but I went with Carter
|
Guess there was more to Carlos Carson that I can remember.
|
Larry Johnson is criminally underrated by this fanbase

Brian Waters - 11 seasons/149 starts/5 Pro Bowls/2 All Pros
Jerome Woods - 10 seasons/105 starts/1 Pro Bowls/0 All Pros Kimble Anders - 10 seasons/94 starts/3 Pro Bowls/0 All Pros Tim Grunhard - 11 seasons/164 starts/1 Pro Bowls/0 All Pros Trent Green - 6 seasons/88 starts/2 Pro Bowls/0 All Pros These are my 5 choices. I would had voted for Charles and Hali, but Hali haven't announced his retirement (at least not to my knowledge), but it's pretty safe to assume that he is retired. And Charles is still considered an active player as a unsigned free agent, so he shouldn't be on the list as well. |

It's still early in the polling, but patterns are emerging. If Tamba and Jamaal are only eligible at the end of the period, our current take on the most deserving guys would be:
2019 induction: Brian Waters 2020 induction: Dante Hall 2021 induction: Tim Grunhard 2022 induction: Willie Roaf 2023 induction: Jamaal Charles 2024 induction: Tamba Hali Let's see how close we are. It looks like we also view Carl Peterson, Dale Carter, Dave Szott, James Hasty, Kimble Anders, and Trent Green as viable candidates who may just have to wait a bit. Carl's reputation is rehabbing over time. I'm intrigued by the contrast between Willie Roaf and Jared Allen. Both were here for four years and they started about the same number of games. Willie was certainly more established and got more honors for that reason, but Jared was a home-grown surprise star who was ascending rapidly. Why are we voting more for Willie than for Jared? Was it just the fact that Jared left? Was it the DUI stuff off the field? I'm curious. |

Brian Waters
Carl Peterson Dante Hall Jamaal Charles Tamba Hali |
Kimble Anders doesn't get near the love he deserves.

I love you Rainman and all your polls as you put so much energy and effort into them.
However this poll sucks and is a bridge too far. Just too much. You just pulled a Fonzie and jumped the shark! :D |
voting for Benedict Charles :shake:

I'm only going with 4 right now, with a save-the-space for 1 more. In this order:
Waters-What a pro, on and off the field. Winner of the Walter Payton Award. I curse the GM never to be mentioned for letting him go. Grunhard-A rock on the line. Hall-One of the most electrifying returners of all time. Tamba-It's too bad his injuries keep him from being a close 2nd to DT. I'm going to save a place for Jamaal, but it's not going to be right now. |
Waters
Charles Carter Hali And one spot intentionally left blank because Derrick Johnson is clearly the other deserving candidate. I'm a 'small ring' guy so if they just went a year or two without putting someone like Anders in there, I'm fine with that. Most of the others weren't on the squad long enough for my tastes. Willie Roaf would get the 'Sandy Koufax' exception but/for the fact that he quit immediately prior to training camp and left us with no ability to cover the hole for him. Unsurprisingly, Trent Green's brains were immediately turned to scrambled eggs after his replacement (was it Jordan Black?) ate shit and the RB had to try to cover for him, leaving nobody to chip the guy in the middle so Green got flushed and eventually murdered by a shot that would've had Gaethers suspended had he hit Manning. Of course he wasn't even flagged. Because - Chiefs. EDIT: Grunhard can also bite it because the rumors are that he steers kids away from Mizzou at Bishop Miege. |
I'm leaving a place for DJ in the 6-7 range. He'll play this year and maybe next, but he needs to be there.
|
I'm curious why Grunhard is getting notably more votes than Szott. I like them both and view them more or less as interchangeable.

Since Tony G is already in, I voted Waters, Hali, Hall, Charles and King Carl. I think the ring should just be for players and coaches, but since they put Jack ****ing Steadman in there, King Carl deserves it more. He was an insufferable prick of a negotiator, but he did pull the team out of 20 years of losing and made us relevant again. And at the time of his dismissal was the LTGMIPS- Longest Tenured GM in Pro Sports.

Amerson
Scandrick Erving Murray Dr. Tardif |
Where's
Bobby Sippio Rich Scalon Jesse Haynes or Brian Shay???? :cuss: |
I voted Carter, Hall, Charles, Hali, and Roaf. I somehow missed Trent Green on the bottom, though.I would have been tempted to put him in.

Tough call and great topic. Waters has to be next in. Later Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, and Jamal Charles. If Okoye's in, LJ should be in, hopefully posthumously. If T-Rich is in, Kimble should be in. If Carlos Carson is in, Dwayne Bowe needs to be in. If Burruss is in, Kearney should be in. My other two would be Maas and Saleaumua, both highly underrated IMO.
Definite no on Dante Hall and Carl Peterson, and anyone other than RB's with less than 8 years with the Chiefs. I think Szott, Wiegmann, and Grunhard all deserve it as well. |
Mahomes
