Wireless outdoor security camera.
Looking to add one camera that videos down my walkway and hits my driveway. Want something wireless for ease of setup.
Any recommendations? Things to be aware of with wireless cameras? |
We use the Arlo Pro 2 and are very happy with it. Only downside is that it is motion activated - which means there are some false alarms when an animal moves in front of it.
I have video of a hummingbird just staring into it, wasps bussing around it, and one where a frog was trying to **** it. |

What’s battery life on those? |
I just got my whole house covered with a ring system just yesterday.
The camera works awesome |

I have the ring video with night vision and spotlight when motion is detected.
It works rather well, and I can be at work and see "live" when motion detected from the app on my phone. The only downside, is that I have a small tree in the line of sight that blows in the wind and triggers the video in the midday (often). There's a way to adjust the sensitivity, I believe, but I've been too lazy to check it out. That all said, for 160-170 bucks - fantastic. Probably eventually get another for my back patio. |
Blink was recommended to me more than once as well.

We like our Arlo Pros.

I had to troubleshoot an issue with a guys wifi system at his house. Found out that the wireless cameras work on the same frequency and can flood the area and **** with the wifi signal. Just something to consider.

Ring is a tad bit slow. It might be my internet speed, but I think it is more often my phone slowing it down and I am almost always on 4g.

wish the neighborhood would invest in cameras that catch every license plate that enter the street

Nice red door! |
I'm in the same boat. Probably need about 3 cameras for solid coverage. Have you settled on anything lewdog?

I have foscam cameras. Used. Good picture. Pain in the ass getting to see them outside of my network. Comcast port forwarding sucks.

Still not being talked out of the Blink outdoor wireless camera. Looks affordable, good picture and a battery life that lasts longer than most.

I have a stupid question. I have a lot in town away from my residence where I own a stone yard and it also has a double car storage building where I store my two boats and all my crap to take care of my rentals. On the lot I have 4 forklifts , a tractor and 4 trailers so there's easily 150K in equipment and stone sitting there.
I bought several of those fake security cameras and mounted them so have never had a problem YET? If I put in one of these will I have to have internet/wifi service there ? |

Let me know if you see a deal again. I’ll wait for one. |
Yes outdoor, the XT but I was mistaken that price was for one. the 2 pack was $184 in June but been pretty much the same price since.

The Blink XT home security camera and/or package is all on sale right now.
Picked up a camera for $79.99 to try out. 10 minute setup and it's got a great picture. Can't beat that for the price. https://i.imgur.com/jtaoEf2l.jpg?1 |

My camera only goes off about 5-7x per day. Hoping I get more out of the batteries than you. |
Blink just added "activity zones" with the latest update. Now you can grey out portions of your motion detector to prevent it from activating. This is huge! No more giant trucks setting off my driveway camera when they go by.

What is the cheapest device you can buy for this purpose? A wireless security camera that will send the video to a cell phone or household device.

I actually picked up the 3 pack of Blink XTs on Black Friday. I will try to get them set up this weekend. I moved to a more rural area so I'm wondering how much the local wildlife will set it off.

One of my Blinks (the newest, had only a month) already shit out on me. I set it off at night and it started making a continuous loud clicking sound, now its toast. Luckily Amazon refunded my money even though it was a few days outside of their return policy. I hope this was just a fluke.
