-- Halloween and tradition.... ??
Hi Gays,
I'm curious of your personal tradition, Past memories or experiences??? Stories and the sort? Memories from your youth, etc. I realize I'm a few months early - but I was having an in-depth conversation with one of my Facebook friends and I like to force my life onto you, here. I have been watching The Changeling for the past 3 years or so. The movie of the holiday changes every 5 years or so for me - I may convert to The Howling from 1981, this season. On Halloween night one thing that may never get changed is that pot of chili thing - sometimes I incorporate Nathan's hot dogs - or maybe boil some pasta to accompany... Plug in a post sharing whatever you want about Halloween! :) Thanks Gays! |
Trick r Treat is a good one to watch every year.
|
When I was a kid, we were hard core. We would head out for many hours of candy hording. I would head out with my brother and a couple other kids in the neighborhood with large pillow cases.
We would always have to make one stop by the house to unload the pillow cases and head back out. We would go out for several hours, even in blizzards some years. I'm not a huge fan of Halloween at this point, but I always suck it up and hand out candy as a payback for the kindness shown to me by strangers when I was a kid. |

I will do it. Let me get through these next few busy weeks - perhaps the weekend prior to Halloween? I'd still like to do the original Scary Movie from 1991 as it's accessible on Youtube so all can watch and timing can be fairly on-point. Plus it's awesomely bad. Was trying to get the trailer to post but apparently YouTube has shat itself.
|
Though Planet mass watching Trick r Treat with commentary would be phenomenal

But; you really need to conceptualize what I like, better. You're not great at target marketing. |
Love Halloween, best time of the year and best holiday...
Halloween '78 is a must every year.. typical watch H2, H4, H5 as well. My daughter loves Hocus Pocus so that's become part of the tradition as well. |

Had a blast in LA as a kid. The hispanic neighborhoods were the best. They get really ****ing into it. A dual Day of the Dead/Halloween thing.
I make to sure to watch Burton's Sleepy Hollow every year. |
I am a big fan of mashup costumes. Last year I was John Snow White. The other moms on the street were kinda digging it, I must say.
Semi-finalists were: Groucho Barks Fidel Castronaut Donald Gump Bel Biv Dafoe (Willem) |
Something a little different to spice up Halloween movie night...

When i was a kid, my old man delivered twinkies. So we had twinkies to give out. Needless to say we were a popular house.
Since our move to the current house in Florida, the whole cul-de-sac gather in one persons driveway and we set up our Halloween candy together. We line up each houses bowl of candy in a row on tables. We all dress up in costumes. Have Halloween accessories out. Robotic scary things, big scarecrows, ghosts that jump out etc. kids get to hit 10 houses of candy all st once. We get to meet neighbors instead of just kids at our door. |
My uncle was the Chief of Police in the town I grew up in. At age 20 ( 1977 ) I wore a Big Foot suit around town, I went everywhere scaring the crap out of kids and ladies. Some parents went as far as turn me in or call in to report it. Of course they knew and let them in on the gag.
Back then, kids went everywhere for candy, now days with society the way it is in the small towns, the side streets are not very busy, kids crowd the downtown business for candy. You don't get to do the fun stuff as much as before. |

Trick r Treat it is for planet movie night!

We have a nice walking trail through the woods by my house. I keep wanting to dress up as a werewolf and Sprint across it. Set up cameras hiding and get reactions and interviews afterwards.

I love Halloween. As a kid we always did like you and spent hours hitting every house in the entire neighborhood.
As an adult, now with young kids of my own we always make sure to do great costumes and we even throw a Halloween party for my son's friends at our house. My favorite costume so far is the Ghostbusters one I made. The proton pack had flashing lights and the proton wand flashed and had sound. https://scontent.fmci1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...a6&oe=5C395F54https://scontent.fmci1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...e8&oe=5BF917A7 |

If I can make it a trip to Kansas City for the Donkey game I'd like to go to one of them haunted house but i know they are expensive i think.
|
I decorate the shit out of my house. I use a Michael Myers animatronic stand up, plus a bunch of other things. As a kid it was my favorite holiday and it still is.

Much to my girlfriend's chagrin, my Halloween tradition seems to be tailgating for the UF-Georgia game here in Jacksonville. But, it seems to fall on it every year.
|
We were far to poor to afford costumes when I was a youngster so our tradition was I would wear one of my sisters dresses and she would wear my clothes.

Did any of you characters get rolled for your candy?
I had a full pillowcase of candy, must have been 10 years old, and some older kids rolled me for my stash. Still mad about it today |

Once me and my friends were freshmen we would play nice for candy (mostly to scout houses with girls we wanted to bang) and beg some younger bully to give us an excuse to beat the piss out of him (JUSTIFIED.) The circle of life. Hakuna matata... |

Easily the second best holiday, absolutely love it
I can still remember the smell of opening one of those 70s premade costume boxes with the little mask https://goo.gl/images/ZvvjDS https://goo.gl/images/qu5RWg It wasnt always those though, got a little older and started to get creative... always loooved getting those vampire/zombie makeup kits with the fake blood, the more expensive the better, and making something up Absolutely loooved it Theres always just been something in the air that time of year, IMO |
Some of the best memories are from Halloween. Especially around the Chiefs SB IV win. I was 9. Back then open burning of leaves was still allowed and the smell was directly connected to fall, football, and Halloween.
There were no predator monsters at the time, kids ran from house to house with no parents in tow and no fear, all in the pursuit of the best candy. The houses that played along by playing spooky music and dressing up in costume to hand out candy were mobbed by kids. I wish I could go back in that time just once to witness it again. Much later, when we lived in town my wife would dress up as a witch to hand out candy. We were a popular house. We then built far out on an acreage where the nearest neighbors are a mile away. To this day our porch light comes on at 6 and shut off at 8 with nobody stopping. 22 years running no trick or treaters other than the neighbors stopping for a trick or beer. Then that douche Bush changed daylight savings time change to the first week of November which means now where I live a lot of the trick or treating happens in daylight or dusk. BULLSHIT. |
Did someone say gays?

Red, I've got similar memories of treating with a pillow case, literally sprinting to the next house. Best years where when there was an early fall dew/fog/drizzle going on. When I'd get home, I'd stick my head right into the pillowcase and rummage through. Eventually sorting all candies by "type". Then it was barter time with my siblings. |

yes! I still remember being about 8, and it began raining fairly steady on one side of the street only. I still remember to this day because the whole way we walked for quite a while it just rained on one side. First time I'd ever seen that. |

I feel bad about it today. But when those older kids rolled me for my candy and took my whole nights work (pillow case full of candy), I couldn't go home empty handed. I found some younger kid and rolled him for his stash. I hope he rolled somebody in turn.
Also, Remember the drug scare? People putting drugs like LSD into candy? It gave my Mom a perfect excuse to seize all my good candy and claim it was suspicious of being laced with drugs. |
