Gladiator 2018 - Round 1, Match 19 - Why Not? versus ghak99
Vote for the person that you think would win this match in a battle to death or submission. As background, assume that prior to the tournament you received 10 minutes of training on every weapon. The time listed is the amount of time before the match where you learn what the weaponry and venue is.
Venue - In an Iowa cornfield (height equivalent: Field of Dreams) Starting Distance - 58 feet Why Not? Main Weapon - Civil War gatling gun with 50 bullets Backup Weapon - Two fist-sized rocks, one of which has a slightly sharp edge Prep Time - 10 Minutes Special Factors - None ghak99 Main Weapon - Flame thrower Backup Weapon - None Prep Time - 10 Minutes Special Factors - None |
Both main weapons are limited to a few seconds of firing, does this come down to the rocks?
|
They're in the middle of the corn field so ghak99 has to be careful and strategic on how he uses that flamethrower. If he ****s up....he burns himself alive.
|
Let me lay out my game plan here before you vote. Ghak immediately just starts roasting the field which is a good idea, however once I get a sense of where the first blast comes from, I simply move in a wide circular pattern until I get a look at him and unload the Gatling gun. Plus we are just coming out of corn season so the stalks aren’t gonna be the tinder they would be in the fall. I like my chances here.
|
that gatling gun will go through those bullets pretty quickly... and it isn't that accurate; can we assume it's aimed automatically at T=0? that's a huge assumption... if not, he's going for the needle in the cornstacks (yuk yuk)...
I see neither primary weapon as an advantage, so it has to come down to which can be used as a club possibly (flame thrower? we talking WWI flamethrower, vietnam, modern? backpack? ), and can that overcome the rocks? I gotta think about this one some more. |

We'll go with a classic Iwo Jima WWII flamethrower here. It seems to me that Why Not? is going to be listening carefully for movement, but will be shooting blind no matter what happens. The gatling gun is basically a roulette wheel for him. ghak99's challenge is that he's as likely to get himself in trouble with the fire as he is Why Not? I'm pondering if there's some specific strategy that he can use in a cornfield. This one may come down to the rocks. |

yep, this has to come down to the rocks I think...
|
What time of year is it? Is the corn green or dry and brown?
It's very easy to get turned around and lost in a tall corn field. |

I don't think the gatling gun is going to move, I'm not even sure he'd be able to aim it anywhere other than the direction it's already pointing in the middle of a corn field.
|
The venue itself is the issue here. Flamethrower > Gatling gun

Note: the above strength and speed evaluations are based my perception and may or may not be totally accurate |
I voted Why Not because why not.?
|
One bullet graze the flamethrower tank and CHAKAPOWEE no more ghak99
|
Gatling gun is worthless in this setting. Flamethrower > rocks
|
That Corn is going to be green.
What time of the day does this battle take place? If it is in the AM, the corn will be wet with dew rendering the flame thrower useless unless it is a direct body shot on Why Not? I think this will come down to the sharpened rock. |
Is it my cornfield? If it’s mine they’re both dead because I’m killing everybody involved if you’re dicking off in my cornfield.
Why Not. It’s going to come down to the rocks. Hell if it were me I’d fire the Gatling gun first and if it doesn’t make him dead I just move over a few rows and get him from the back. Pollinating cornfields are an assholes to walk through. About damn impossible to drag a flamethrower and gear through. Plus if you’re moving all you can hear is corn leaves. Sneaking up should be no big deal. HOWEVER Ghak farms and knows all this. The ability to move in corn should be a huge tactical advantage. I’d presume he’d dump the gear and go tactical early also. |

It is your cornfield. We planned it for a time when you were working a different area. I hope the flamethrower isn't a problem. |

Surprised these haven't been a weapon yet...

Why Not? writes a poignant letter back home detailing the horrors of the corn field and his experience killing a man. He moves on to Round 2.

One person isn't going to move with a gatling gun, even re-positioning it to aim a little one way or another would be very hard.
|
Id light up the corn and burn Why Not out. He by himself isnt moving the gatling gun fast or far.
