Frozen Hamburger Patties

Anyone have any luck with a specific brand or product? Looking for maybe twenty pounds of patties for a birthday party. If you have any horror stories of a brand lay them out here so I know to stay away from them.

Thanks

Mephistopheles Janx 06-13-2018 09:13 PM

go to the butcher and ask them to wrap up 20lb worth of patties. They will even season it for you. Place them in a cooler and take that instead.

No reason to make people sick with dodgy meat.

Jewish Rabbi 06-13-2018 09:14 PM

Should have planned this out years ago and raised your own steer and processes the meat yourself you lazy bastard.

Buehler445 06-13-2018 09:24 PM

Depends on if you give a shit about whether you care if you feed these people crap burgers. If so, go to the butcher. If not, go to sams.

Jewish Rabbi 06-13-2018 09:35 PM

Also, are you seriously feeding 80 people? 20 lbs is a ton of frozen burgers, most of the will only be a quarter pound.

SuperBowl4 06-13-2018 09:43 PM

The Krusty Crab has some very good frozen hamburger patties. Ask for squidward and tell him SuperBowl4 sent you. Enjoy!

srvy 06-13-2018 09:47 PM

If there is a frozen preformed burger any good I havent found it. Sams Angus burgers arent bad but expensive but nothing to write home about. I always wondered about the burgers in a box or dogs in the box at Sams. If they are restaurant quality but scared to try and be disappointed.

I would think best bet is those 10 lb chubs some supermarkets sell 80% ground chuck. At times when beef wasnt so high I would see them as low as 1.59 a lb. Just thaw and slice right out of the chub.

CaliforniaChief 06-13-2018 09:47 PM

I just did frozen patties from Sam's for my son's graduation party. Holy hecka grease fire. I about burned my face off. But the people there were either uber polite or the burgers were pretty good.

threebag 06-13-2018 10:27 PM

I looked at some Birchwood in a 10 pound box

The butchers who man the Deli at my local grocer are 40+ year old men. But I'm sure the people packaging those frozen patties are responsible adults working well paying and rewarding jobs. lol

Regardless of the age of the person processing the meat... fresh > frozen every day of the week and not really that much more expensive.

threebag 06-13-2018 11:02 PM

The burgers are for mostly kids to eat

Id mix it up with burgers and dogs then. Rent a outdoor griddle because as was said those frozen burgers on a open flame are like thermite grenades.

Heh...

I can just call my grandpa, buy a cow for super cheap, and pay the processing fee.

:D The man raises cattle. He's 86 and STILL doing it.

That's a hard generation. He's probably the only member of my family that isn't a **** up.

Fun fact: I was about 10 years old when I found out what a 'steer' was. I remember them grabbing a young calf and holding it down. My grandpa had a rubber band in his hand.

I didn't see what happened next clearly, but then he threw something that landed by my feet. They were testicles.

That was how I learned that steers are castrated bulls.

You don't slaughter your own cow? Amateur.

Iczer 06-14-2018 07:48 AM

My family loves the Sams club frozen burgers. The sirloin and angus are both good. Throw them on frozen.

I think someone already mentioned they're a little greasy. Just keep a squirt bottle to shoot down flames or close the lid and kill the flames.

I got a bag of those in my freezer that i'll probably make this weekend again.

Frosty 06-14-2018 08:11 AM

If you have a Safeway (or Van's, iirc) near you, I like these for grilling in a hurry.

https://d2lnr5mha7bycj.cloudfront.ne...70bf83771a.jpg

Lean enough not to cause flare ups but holds together well, 100% beef with no fillers and tastes good. Usually around $11 for 10 patties.

Scaga 06-14-2018 08:44 AM

Since you're here in ICT....
Run up north to Swiss Burger. Fresh, not frozen. It's like $30 for 10 lbs. The Annex Lounge used to get their burgers from them.

Dude, if you have a Sam's Club around you, they have Members Mark Back and Cheddar Cheese Stuffed Angus burgers (frozen patties) that are freaking awesome.

I'll be getting my quarter of steer next week. Currently in processing. Great thing about mid mo is the amount of local meat processors. Stock up one 1 pound ground beef, fajita and stew meat, steaks, get a good chunk of brisket. Can't be beat.

But even if you aren't related or know someone who raises steers, its easy to find locals selling beef. And its usually cheaper than buying from the store.

scho63 06-14-2018 10:14 AM

Why not just buy a mix of 50 hamburgers/cheeseburgers from McDonalds? Saves you a lot of time and money and every kid eats them. You look like the hero. LOL

Holladay 06-14-2018 10:58 AM

Buy 15 lbs of 90% fat beef, 5 lbs of pork and a plastic "patty maker". Mix the meat, drop in the maker, refrigerate or freeze.

The pork adds tenderness and added flavor.

You can whip out a bunch in no time. Better and cheaper.

Seems pretty lean for a burger. I like closer to 20% fat for beef, and most pork is 85-90% lean, too.

I got a couple T-Bones at Apple Market for $6 each. They were reduced for "quick sale" as their final sale date was the day I bought them. Take em home, put em in the freezer, they'll be fine for a nice summer day. Apple Market has a really good butcher. Just as good as Price Chopper or Hy-Vee, and usually a lot less expensive. Good beef and pork.

gblowfish 06-14-2018 12:34 PM

Oh and I agree on the "tubes" of ground beef. You can buy 80/20 in a tube and cut your own patties real quick.

$117 for a ground beef bundle that weighs 33lbs at Yoder Meats.

Otherwise just go for the frozen patties from Sam's.

For kids 1/4lb frozen patties would do just fine. On a outdoor grill frozen patties can be hit or miss though at any weight. Will probably come out with a 3oz. patty after cooked which would work well for a kid. But if it were adults, I would make sure to have 1/3lb patties to limit people coming back for a 2nd burger.

A half assed(meaning lacking onions, garlic, and pepper) boston burger wouldn't be bad. I would however use 73/27 beef with the ground pork rather than 90/10.

How about frozen steaks? I've got some frozen ribeyes from the KC Steak Company that I should cook up sooner rather than later. I've researched it a little (very little) and was trying to find out if they're ok to just get thrown on the grill or if I have to thaw them in a certain way.
