Chiefs among 13 teams present to watch Manziel throw at San Diego's pro day

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/2...fl-teams-watch

Quote:

SAN DIEGO -- Johnny Manziel has to show that he is a changed man.

That process continued Thursday when the former Cleveland Browns quarterback threw to receivers at the University of San Diego's pro day.

Scouts from 13 NFL teams were on hand to watch Manziel throw. The Browns, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were represented.

...
The search for a 3rd QB is on?

Hog just shot a load past Alpha Centauri.

BossChief 03-22-2018 11:26 PM

The reports were probably bogus, but during that draft Manziel and Reid were apparently talking a lot. I’d prefer us to use a late rounder on a QB, but I would understand it if Reid thought he could make Manziel another one of his reclamation projects.

Having henne allows us a science project at 3rd qb and manziel fits the Reid Father flanagan kind of project. But would much rather see a raw strong arm qb as 3rd be a late round draft pick instead of a problem child.

ChiefAshhole1056 03-22-2018 11:47 PM

Really depends on how Veach feels about him. He fits the mold of the type of players he likes to acquire.

And?

kcxiv 03-23-2018 12:24 AM

Manziel seemed to have gotten his issues straightened out and is still working on them, seen a good video on him not to long ago. Hope Johnny keeps it up!

Seems to have or knows he has to say all the right things in order to get someone to take a chance on him? Too soon to tell.

Not getting my hopes up but Johnny was a good football player. Has the downfield vision thingy going on. I thirteen teams were present that means something. Comeon Andy, go get him

the only reason a kc fan would be interested in manziel would be that if he had ten more seconds three years ago, he would have single handedly beaten the chiefs. :cuss:

well it was obvious something was wrong with him. You can do or say all the right things, but its not easy for someone to say, hey, im ****ign bipolar. Just have to wait and see. i hope he did get shit going in the right direction. I could give a **** if he plays football. I rather see the man get over his issues.

It’s easy to say if you’re desperate enough for a second chance. He was a spoiled brat rich kid who happened to be a hellova college football player. I’m not buying it. IMO he’s telling people what they want to hear to try and get another shot in the NFL.

Chiefs Moon 03-23-2018 04:23 AM

He's not worth the risk. But I understand the desire to have him work with Reid for a year and, if all goes well, trade him.

Easy 6 03-23-2018 04:36 AM

I'd guess these clubs are hearing good things from their sources about the sincerity of this comeback attempt, or they wouldnt even bother to show up

If he is for real, it would be an inexpensive and out of the box way to acquire a young, first round talent on the cheap... that said, would this guy really have the patience to be a 3rd stringer for an indefinite period of time? Or is he hoping to be The Man sooner rather than later?

Gravedigger 03-23-2018 05:14 AM

Better than Henne.

Red Dawg 03-23-2018 05:28 AM

Hell no. He's not a good pro talent and a dumbass. Kap would be a better option.

Brooklyn 03-23-2018 05:37 AM

Big no to Johnny Football. It’s all an act to get one more, though not for NFL standards, big payday. Dude washed out of the league and if you think he can get a 6 figure salary anywhere else then I’ve got this here bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. If he can con 1 team into giving him a chance it’s probably for league min, which is more than he’d earn the whole next decade scanning toilet paper at the Walmart checkout line.

I'll pass, we've already had 1 too many wacko 3rd string QBs. I'm in agreement that we should just look for a late round or UDFA for a 3rd. I'd even consider bringing back some other QB we cut in favor of Bray

If he is smart, he will sign with the Chiefs just to get Andy Reid’s stamp of approval so he can make the big bucks with another team.

Say what you want about Andy but QB’s who tutelage under him seem to have value to other NFL teams.

Mile High Mania 03-23-2018 06:29 AM

B_Ambuehl 03-23-2018 07:26 AM

He's potentially too good of a QB to come here when you have a young QB yet to establish himself. Remember he didn't get run out of cleveland for bad play, he was an ascending young big play guy. He got run off for off the field stuff. Get a couple slapdick UDFA camp arms but Johny football is too dangerous to come to K.C. What happens if Mahomes has a bad preseason game and Johny Football comes in and lights up the 4th quarter?

I don't think so, I want to say his rights are owned by some CFL team. So it would require sending them a used washer/dryer or something.

Jerok 03-23-2018 10:19 AM

If would be a good option for him to get a year or two of solid backup qb work, under a offensive head coach, in a city that doesn't scream for attentio. Then he can try for a starters job or a backup situation with an old or off injured qb.

Exactly. Aamof, it was the university of San Diego’s Pro Day work out that Johnny was an afterthought throw in.
The teams there were scouting the universities players and figured why not go watch Johnny Football. If your guys are there they just as well?

This wasn’t about teams only being there to watch him.

I'm not sure this even matters... Mahomes has his head on straight and just might be a positive influence on Manziel, rather than Manziel being a bad one on Mahomes.

Mahomes also thrives on competition, so not sure there would be any psyche out / head game / stuff at play here either

Go read that draft thread around the time KC was 2 slots from being on the clock and Cleveland traded up to take him.

Almost everyone here was super excited that he was gonna be a Chief.

Manziel also recently said he would “play for free” ...so we could probably sign him for the minimum if we wanted to.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/03/23/jo...-pro-day-rehab

University of San Diego didn’t figure to draw much attention for its pro day Thursday until word spread that Johnny Manziel would be throwing.

Thirteen NFL teams attended the Toreros’ pro day. They saw Manziel, in a light rain, throw 38 passes with two misses. The Patriots also brought him inside the USD facility to get his updated weight on him (197 pounds).

Idiocy aside, he has all the tools of a Russell Wilson and may even be a bit more athletic.

Had he been a "clean" prospect, he'd have probably gone Top Ten and would still be a starting NFL QB.

I have no ill will against the guy and hope that he proves that he belongs in the NFL because the game would be more exciting with him than without him.

I know nothing of his off field life, just what's reported here.

As I mentioned a year ago, he rented a house directly behind mine and didn't cause any issues in terms of parties, noise, nonsense, etc.

Regardless of his NFL career, I hope he gets his life together.

I can certainly say that if I had been born with that kind of NFL talent AND into a family worth $50 million or more, that I wouldn't have gone down the same path.
