Bleh.

Simplicity 03-14-2018 04:04 PM

Does not make sense. Is he even going to be able to play football anymore?

Man... I forgot I still have my DAT signature on...

KCUnited 03-14-2018 04:04 PM

Nice to see Anthony staying in ketchup and mustard.

ToxSocks 03-14-2018 04:05 PM

I like it, assuming it was cheap. He's a quality special teamer and he fits in with what Andy likes to do.

ShowtimeSBMVP 03-14-2018 04:05 PM

We have signed LB Terrance Smith and WR De’Anthony Thomas.

bigjosh 03-14-2018 04:05 PM

Gayest signing so far. Should basically be a camp invite.

pugsnotdrugs19 03-14-2018 04:05 PM

I guess he has made some really nice plays with Patrick before.

New World Order 03-14-2018 04:06 PM

Why?

siberian khatru 03-14-2018 04:06 PM

But we can still cut him, right?

Deberg_1990 03-14-2018 04:07 PM

absolutely!

Okay, that’s a guy that I want.

chiefzilla1501 03-14-2018 04:11 PM

I don't mind the DAT signing. I think they'll have a lot more opportunity for gadget plays with this new offense. I thought Albert Wilson would have a real nice role in this offense, but maybe DAT plays a lot more of a Wilson role. Now that we're going more vertical it doesn't hurt to have an option who can sprint into a route out of the backfield.

Terrance Smith... I guess he's cheap, but he's been totally worthless whenever he's played.

Titty Meat 03-14-2018 04:11 PM

Smith is fine on special teams. He's basically free against the cap. Why not bring him along for training camp at least?

Besides, it's not like Eligwe has been amazing. People only like him because they assume he has potential

Chief Northman 03-14-2018 04:14 PM

Two + special teams contributors on the cheap. Nothing wrong with this.

Just teach DAT not to field balls over his head inside the 10....

BlackHelicopters 03-14-2018 04:16 PM

Why? A step backward.

Nice. Hope DAT is healthy and contributes. We need some affordable players on offense that know the system.

Speaking of special teams....how long before Colquitt is cut? No way Chiefs keep him at $4M.

He's a FA and the Chiefs are currently in the middle of re-signing him.

Right. But his cap hit last year was a really high $4.9M. He's 35, but I'd be surprised if he wants to take less than that. I would also be surprised if the Chiefs' sign him anywhere near that salary. You can get the best punters in college (and there are some good ones) late in the draft. Unless you're the Faiders. :)

IDK, but even at the vet minimum he's going to be more expensive than what i think the Chiefs should be spending there. Too many holes on this roster.

Agree. BTW, there's a punter and backup QB thread now.

He's 25.

RealSNR 03-14-2018 05:13 PM

It appears we're not going to be very invested in drafting another dude like Keke Coutee.

Robinson and Chesson are far from automatic roster guys. Neither is Conley, for that matter. And DAT hopefully has a small enough contract that we could cut him in preseason if we had to. In any case, they're certainly not going to draft another midget. That's just too many.

Oh, I sure do... Probably between Robinson and Chesson and now list the RB's and put him down as # 3. The guy has value when healthy and used properly.

The Chiefs carried DAT last year with Hill, Conley, Chesson, Robinson and Wilson.

I think Chesson makes the squad because he's a very good special teamer with a chance of becoming a solid possession receiver over the middle but I think Robinson is on thin ice.

This signing confuses the hell outta me, but man I sure do love it when guys put something above the money... it says something about their priorities

Yet his time here has been such a mixed bag, this is weird... but go with your gut, Brett Veach

I'm perfectly ok with this. Thomas is a valuable role player and special teamer. Hopefully he just learns to kneel on kickoffs though.

Nope. Would rather Maclin than DAT.

May just be a body for an arm to throw to at camp. Red will show him off in the 2nd/3rd string preseason sets where he should look good...good enough that when he gets cut, he can go to Cleveland or Miami for a final NFL payday or two.

The coaches do look after the players they like (as people) like that...

He had that mystery AIDS thing going on for him in 2015. I suspect a bunch of it was some sort of depression, too. I imagine he feels like Andy Reid and the team pulled him out of it and saved his career, so maybe it's some kind of thing where he feels like he owes them?

That's 100% speculation on my part. I'm just guessing.

We needed someone to attempt to return punts inside the 5 and DAT was just the best player on the market. Bonus points as he's never met a pylon he'll stretch inside of to get a TD.

Here's a quick breakdown of De'Anthony Thomas' new one-year deal with the Chiefs, which includes a $90,000 signing bonus — the contract's only guaranteed component.

Thomas will earn a base salary of $790,000 this season. He'll also carry a cap number of $880,000. That means the Chiefs could release him and save his entire base against the cap.
