Mularkey out in Tennessee

WTF? I thought I read last night that they agreed to a contract extension

Filed to ESPN: the Titans and head coach Mike Mularkey have mutually agreed to part ways, according to a league source.
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) January 15, 2018

I wonder if ownership was trying to force staff changes on him.

carcosa 01-15-2018 09:01 AM

We suck so bad, beating us with an 18 point comeback in the playoffs won't save your coach's job lol smh

:hmmm:

And yet we still continue to keep Sutton despite blowing two leads in the playoffs.

**** this organization.

Clark Hunt and Andy Reid both ****ing suck.

RunKC 01-15-2018 09:12 AM

Their GM was with the Patriots for 11 years. They’re going to go after Josh McDaniels.

mcaj22 01-15-2018 09:13 AM

it's really sad that we lost to a team that was looking for any out to fire their coach.

This has been building. The QB and entire offense has regressed from last year. The Tits have some pieces to be good / very good but Mularkey is nothing more the Jeff Fisher 2.0.

And given what O'Brien did in Houston with Watson the TN ownership (still based in Houston) wants a better offensive mind. Or at least one that has an offensive game plan from this century.

This.

CaliforniaChief 01-15-2018 09:18 AM

I hope McDaniels turns them down and the Titans are left with Jeff Fisher. LMAO

alpha_omega 01-15-2018 09:19 AM

Hmmmm, interesting....not surprising, but surprising at the same time.

Mile High Mania 01-15-2018 09:19 AM

Interesting timing... went 2-7 as the interim, then back to bavk 9-7 with a 1-1 playoff record this year. I haven't watched them closely, so who knows. They must really want a shot at one of these guys coming off playoff teams.

siberian khatru 01-15-2018 09:20 AM

No one's impressed by beating the Chiefs in the playoffs.

I envision Alec Baldwin in "Glengarry Glen Ross": Nice guy? I don't give a shit. Good father? **** you! Go home and play with your kids. Beat the Chiefs? Hit the bricks!

They already had that with Mularkey.

Word is they demanded he fire the OC and was refused.

DRM08 01-15-2018 09:21 AM

And the Chiefs lost to this guy after leading at home by 18 points. If they won’t fire Reid, at least get rid of Sutton.

Makes sense. Terry Robiskie is to TN what Jimmy Raye was to KC back in the day.

ILChief 01-15-2018 09:25 AM

Get Dick LeBeau in here now

chiefzilla1501 01-15-2018 09:30 AM

I wonder what mediocre team will pick him up. The colts and lions seem to fit that bill, although the lions apparently are the favorite for Matt Patricia.

Wishful thinking, but wouldn't mind poaching their defensive staff. Lebeau is too old but spanos seems plenty experienced

side imput. It will be really interesting to see what happens with the Patriots and how they move into the post tom/ bill era. Will all the staff jump ship a year before when they know? Who will go first? Will Kraft let tom play into years when he sucks? Will Bill retire? A lot of questions over there.

I do not know.

The issue is Bud Adams' will didn't designate a control person of the team after he died. One of his children is trying to sell a stake in the team. And as mentioned earlier, the family is based out of Houston.

ILChief 01-15-2018 10:57 AM

I doubt they leave Tennessee. They are supposed pretty well there. Not to mention a lack of destination cities. They want to force London? Give St. Louis, Oakland, or San Diego another team? Portland or San Antonio? Canada/Mexico?

I think the Oilers name should go back to Houston.

FloridaMan88 01-15-2018 11:07 AM

So Tennessee “parts ways” with their HC, and 2 of the 3 non-Chiefs teams who lost on Wild Card weekend have fired assistant coaches (the LA Rams whose coaching staff is in its first season did not), yet Clark Hunt’s franchise sees no need to fire a single coach after a historic playoff choke job.

Exhibit A for this shithole franchise’s commitment to mediocrity.

Yep, I can see him hard at work scribbling crazy plays on the white board in his office to call on 3rd and short yardage situations with double digit second half leads.

3rd string TE triple reverse plays, back-up offensive linemen throwing the ball, etc.

I've been following this team since they moved to KC from Texas and I feel the same way. I honestly don't care anymore. I just felt irritated when they lost to the Titans this year; couldn't even get really mad.
I'm at the point now that the thought of Mahomes starting in two years doesn't even excite me. (Count me as surprised if Fat Andy lets go of Alex this off season. He needs his security blanket to win 9-10 games).

If you define good as running an antiquated offensive scheme that at most will give you 9 wins a season, while your mobile franchise QB rots, and one of your division rivals created an offensive scheme that plays to their mobile franchise QB's strengths.

If that's good I'd hate to see bad. Seriously, even Marty thinks this guy is too conservative.

Holy cow. I didn't know that. If his allegations are true, that would drop his record to 1-1 in referee-tampered playoff games this year.

Of course, you should fire a coach automatically for complaining about the refs at halftime. That's not going to get you any calls in the second half.

If I was the Titans I would hire LaFleur. Not sure why there isn’t more hype about this guy. He is a lot like Nagy.
Made his way up in the Shannahan tree and revitalized Jared Goff’s career as the OC.

Patriots coaching tree sucks. Get this guy.

The Franchise 01-17-2018 11:26 AM

The Titans need an offensive minded HC that isn't stuck in the "smash mouth" style of offense. Mariota and Henry are a damn good QB/RB combo to work with.

There was a ticky-tack OPI call against TN on a 3rd down, as TN was driving before the end of the 1st half. I looked at my wife (a TN fan) and said "You just lost this game."
