Why Kansas City is (Mostly) in Missouri
 

This video does a great job of explaining why KCK is trash trying to piggyback on the legendary KCMO.

TLDW: KCMO existed as "Kansas, MO" before Kansas was even a State.

The river splits off from the border into Missouri up along the north edge of the city, so I'm not really sure what that has to do with anything.

I'm not talking about US government-sanctioned 'official' names
that land area was known as something before any sort of 'official' labelling
and it was known as Kansas and assorted variants of the name

like what are the benefits it get for which it does not have to pay?

KS also doesn't get any revenue/taxes generated from those entities.

Like all suburbs, cities in Johnson County and the other ks-side counties benefit greatly from their proximity to a large city, poaching businesses, poaching residents, poaching tax revenue in general.

Only semi-serious, though I do dislike suburbs in principle.

For everyone that knows nothing about the place, it's Kansas city Kansas. Most folks have no clue it's mostly in Missouri.

This is much about big ****ing la de ****ing da. A city that overlaps two states and is on the Kansas river.


As a Kansan I know Arrowhead a the K are on the Missouri side because I drive I70 to get there. I spend money when I go to Kansas City so Missouri can tell me thank you.

There were at least 8 tribes occupying that area, so it is unlikely it had one name. But keep on cosmoing.

State Line is pretty weird. My friend lived on the Mo side. We used to wonder if we threw rocks at the house across the street, would the FBI have to get involved?
