Why Kansas City is (Mostly) in Missouri

This video does a great job of explaining why KCK is trash trying to piggyback on the legendary KCMO.

TLDW: KCMO existed as "Kansas, MO" before Kansas was even a State.

Hopefully there is someone available that lives in their Mom's basement in Texas to educate us about the history of KC...

redfan 06-14-2017 09:02 AM

MO built the bridges over the river.

Rasputin 06-14-2017 09:23 AM

Chiefs weren't Kansas City Chiefs they were Dallas Texans.

BlackHelicopters 06-14-2017 02:05 PM

Skynet has become self aware.

BucEyedPea 06-14-2017 09:15 PM

The river splits off from the border into Missouri up along the north edge of the city, so I'm not really sure what that has to do with anything.

BlackHelicopters 06-15-2017 07:32 AM

Never heard of Kansas City Kansas

Yes...but the area that became the state of Kansas still had a name prior to it becoming a state and prior to "Kansas, MO."

The name? KANSAS!

Wrong.

Kansas City was founded in the 1830s as a Missouri River port at its confluence with the Kansas River coming in from the west. On June 1, 1850 the town of Kansas was incorporated; shortly after came the establishment of the Kansas Territory.

The kansas side of the metro is to KcMO as Canada is to the US...

Sucking on the teat of its neighbor, which allows it to reap many benefits for which it does not have to pay, allowing it to funnel that saved money into other areas.

I'm not talking about US government-sanctioned 'official' names
that land area was known as something before any sort of 'official' labelling
and it was known as Kansas and assorted variants of the name

like what are the benefits it get for which it does not have to pay?
the Royals/Chiefs?
KS also doesn't get any revenue/taxes generated from those entities.
actually, KCMO sucks $ out of KS residents who attend those KCMO venues
I'm not saying this is good or bad, just that your description isn't accurate or fair

It oozed out of DC? Lounge property values start to plummet.

Fair? Who said anything about fair?

Like all suburbs, cities in Johnson County and the other ks-side counties benefit greatly from their proximity to a large city, poaching businesses, poaching residents, poaching tax revenue in general.

Only semi-serious, though I do dislike suburbs in principle.

So you oppose welfare programs in the USA? Just to be consistent and all.

For everyone that knows nothing about the place, it's Kansas city Kansas. Most folks have no clue it's mostly in Missouri.

Rasputin 06-15-2017 11:34 AM

This is much about big ****ing la de ****ing da. A city that overlaps two states and is on the Kansas river.

As a Kansan I know Arrowhead a the K are on the Missouri side because I drive I70 to get there. I spend money when I go to Kansas City so Missouri can tell me thank you.

There were at least 8 tribes occupying that area, so it is unlikely it had one name. But keep on cosmoing.

Cracks me up how some people can be so worked up over this. Its Kansas City. I don't give two shits what state its in.

suzzer99 06-15-2017 07:59 PM

State Line is pretty weird. My friend lived on the Mo side. We used to wonder if we threw rocks at the house across the street, would the FBI have to get involved?

I know, it's funny watching this border war. Hell I don't even think about which side I'm on when I'm down there.
