Just read that. Crazy.

jd1020 06-02-2017 05:39 PM

In before Alexcuses.

TLO 06-02-2017 05:39 PM

So.... Who are our receivers again?

TigeRRUppeRRcut 06-02-2017 05:39 PM

What. The. ****.

DaneMcCloud 06-02-2017 05:40 PM

**** yes

The Franchise 06-02-2017 05:40 PM

What in the ****?

MahiMike 06-02-2017 05:40 PM

It's the year of Conley?

jd1020 06-02-2017 05:40 PM

Alex built that rapport with Hill. No need for Maclin any more.

kysirsoze 06-02-2017 05:41 PM

gonna sign an ILB and hopefully barnidge

penbrook 06-02-2017 05:42 PM

Well looks like Tyreek you are the #1 this year and Conley will be fairy red more. We do have roughly 13 mil now. Maybe a vet WR here soon?

TigeRRUppeRRcut 06-02-2017 05:42 PM

Did Robinson make huge strides? He had a great start to OTAs...

chiefs1111 06-02-2017 05:43 PM

So what does this do for the Chiefs cap wise?

FlaChief58 06-02-2017 05:43 PM

Wow!

Barnidge is a TE. Bowman just got released

As puzzled as I have been in a long time.

FloridaMan88 06-02-2017 05:43 PM

There has to be more to this story, it doesn't seem like this was a planned post-June 1st cut for salary cap purposes.

The Franchise 06-02-2017 05:43 PM

$7 million in dead money? Good ****ing job, Dorsey.

Nope.

$5 million in cap savings if he's pre-June 1, $10 million if he's Post June 1.

Eh, Maclin served his purpose in 2015 and helped to bring along Conley and others in 2016 and 2017.

He looked done in 2016.

This is no surprise to me.

eDave 06-02-2017 05:44 PM

Perhaps there is more to this.

wazu 06-02-2017 05:45 PM

Another promising wide receiver's career cut short by Alex Smith.

TigeRRUppeRRcut 06-02-2017 05:45 PM

So either he looked like crap on the field or he did something shady

Ehhhh.....I guess that's better then. Still ****ing shitty though. They'd better hope that Hill keeps up his production from last year.

Spott 06-02-2017 05:45 PM

Well, at least he has a chance to play for a real QB now. Now Smith will have to find someone else to never throw deep to.

Kiimo 06-02-2017 05:45 PM

Wanna hear Kevin Kietzman drone on about how Reid attended Maclin's wedding some more.

If this was a planned post June 1st cut, why would Maclin be allowed to participate in the team's voluntary OTA's?

He has been at all the OTA's, including yesterday's.

jd1020 06-02-2017 05:47 PM

I guess Maclin is never going to realize his dream of catching that pass from Mahomes.

thabear04 06-02-2017 05:47 PM

Wtf is going on that's ****en crazy.

Deberg_1990 06-02-2017 05:47 PM

Alex Smith doesnt need a #1 WR

penbrook 06-02-2017 05:48 PM

Tyreek step on up. It's your time to shine.

TigeRRUppeRRcut 06-02-2017 05:48 PM

How does Chesson look? Is DAT going to make the roster? So many questions...

New World Order 06-02-2017 05:48 PM

Tiger now has his excuse for this year

beach tribe 06-02-2017 05:48 PM

It looks like the organization is viewing 2017 as preparation for 2018, when their new QB takes over...

This really screams to me that they dont think Alex can make it happen and dont really care about paying for weapons to support him.

Look at the draft.....and now this.

They are ****ing over it, just like everyone else..

Bye Alex..

DaFace 06-02-2017 05:48 PM

I'd venture to guess that he looked exactly like the 2016 version of himself in OTA's.

$13.5 million for 530 yards is a huge waste of cap space.

FloridaMan88 06-02-2017 05:48 PM

Maclin a little more than 24 hours ago...

hawkchief 06-02-2017 05:49 PM

No biggie. Maclin had no separation for 2 years. Overrated for sure. But since this about personnel might as well say "**** your Carl" anyway.

This doesn't make sense.

If Maclin was a true #1 receiver (which he isn't) then having a veteran presence would only help Mahomes, not hinder him.

penbrook 06-02-2017 05:50 PM

I'm still puzzled. Are there any good vet WRs still available

TigeRRUppeRRcut 06-02-2017 05:50 PM

Since that ankle injury against Houston, he has not been the same.

WhiteWhale 06-02-2017 05:50 PM

I doubt Maclin was anticipating this.

I'm not sure what this means. Maclin had a down year and his contract wasn't ideal, but we're not exactly deep at the position.

Was he bad at camp? Are young guys showing things to coaches that have inspired them to such a move? Was it simply a financial move?

Dartgod 06-02-2017 05:50 PM

Good God, can we please not make this into an Alex Smith bashing thread?

Kiimo 06-02-2017 05:50 PM

I really am shocked. He must be done.

NIUhuskies 06-02-2017 05:51 PM

Wow... was hoping this was going to be Albert Wilson's last training camp with the Chiefs. Guess not. #facepalm

The Franchise 06-02-2017 05:51 PM

So our top three are now:

Hill
Conley
Wilson

Yay.

pugsnotdrugs19 06-02-2017 05:51 PM

I don't think Dorsey and Reid are packing it in or anything like that-- but I do think that they are probably looking to load up on more cap room before Mahomes takes over. Open up the door to sign whoever you want while he is cheap on the rookie deal.

If that was the case, they could have cut him after the 2017 season.

Maclin looked like he was DONE in 2016.

I'm all in favor of this decision.

We have so much cap room come next season. Roughly 50 mil

This....

We know Alex will be steady no matter who plays with him....

3300 yards, 17 TDs, 7 INTs.....

He never changes.....

Maclins production dropped significantly....Certainly too much to keep him around.

TigeRRUppeRRcut 06-02-2017 05:52 PM

Either one of chesson and Robinson are expected to pan out, my guess.

This is what I don't understand about this move.

If this was always part of the plan, to release Maclin after June 1st for salary cap savings, then why didn't the Chiefs prepare for his release earlier this offseason by adding another veteran WR?

I was on the phone earlier today with a fellow Chiefs fan and I told him that Maclin was done and not to count on him. My friend said he thought Maclin would have a "bounce back year".

Maybe he does but it won't be for $13.5 million and for the Chiefs.

Kiimo 06-02-2017 05:53 PM

This means that De'Anthony Thomas will make the team lol. At this point it is hilarious.

But if Hill is your #1 you can't have him returning kicks.

Is that slow ass Nelson face guarding instead of playing the ball again?

Gotta be something more to this - doesn't make sense with the crop of WRs we have on the roster. Wilson at #3?

It obviously was not a part of the plan.

Otherwise, he'd have been cut in March and the Chiefs sure as hell wouldn't have linked to a ton of pictures with Reid, Smith and other Chiefs players at Maclin's wedding.

Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin: "I’ve Got Something to Prove"
Posted May 24, 2017

BJ Kissel
Chiefs Reporter

Just three days after getting married, Kansas City Chiefs veteran wide receiver Jeremy Maclin was back on the practice field, surrounded by several of the guys, which included coach Andy Reid, who made the four-hour trip to St. Louis to see Maclin get hitched on Saturday night.

Rather than taking a quick honeymoon and returning for these voluntary workouts next week or the week after, Maclin was back putting in work with his teammates.

“Like I said when we first started, I’ve got something to prove,” Maclin explained of returning to Kansas City. “I struggled a little bit last year with injuries and everything else, and I’m healthy and I’m looking forward to getting this thing back on the road.”

After putting together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2014-15, which included his first year in Kansas City (2015)—when he finished with 87 receptions for 1,088 yards with eight touchdowns—Maclin dealt with the sudden loss of a friend and a groin injury that sidelined him for a month in the middle of the season.

For a few different reasons, it was a tough season for Maclin. He finished last year with 44 receptions for 536 yards and two touchdowns. It was the lowest output of his eight-year career, although Maclin isn’t the only one who takes responsibility for those numbers.

Quarterback Alex Smith said it’s on him as well, and it’s something he’s thought about during the offseason.

“Absolutely. I think about it a lot,” Smith noted. “It’s tough. Both of us are in on that and vice versa. For a lot of reasons, we weren’t as productive as we could be and should have been. I’m looking forward to the remedy in that.”

“I’m looking forward to getting back to what he and I used to do,” Maclin added.

For the second straight year last year, the Chiefs’ season ended with a loss in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Smith said getting back on the field with Maclin and others working towards next season is the best way to move on from those losses.

“Every guy is probably different,” Smith said. “Getting back here is a big step. Getting back really kicks off the start of this next season. We were in Phase I and moved on to Phase II, and now we’ve got live throws against a defense and we’re playing. It’s nice to have those (workouts) to help flush that. We’ll be able to use that down the line if we ever get in that situation again. We’ll be able to lean on that for the guys that have been through it.

“For now, the focus is looking forward and moving on and it helps to be playing football again to do that.”

Maclin—the newlywed, is only looking towards the future as well.

“It was hard for me last year,” Maclin added. “My mindset is to get back to doing what I love, and that’s play football. It’s also doing the little things in the process to be successful.”

From big things like getting married to little things like proper footwork and technique, Maclin, Smith and the rest of the Chiefs will take the field again Wednesday afternoon for the second practice of OTAs.

JakeF 06-02-2017 05:56 PM

I wonder if the NFL will take another draft pick away from us for this?

My guess he was gone after this season. Or rework his contract and stay with the team by taking a pay cut.

TRR 06-02-2017 05:57 PM

Got to be more to this story. He's a model player, with Reid and Dorsey both gushing about his play and leadership all the time. Hurt last year, but I wouldn't say he's even close to being done. Is he even 30 yet?

When he was on the field, I thought he played aggressive and with an edge. KC will miss that attitude for sure. Surprised a pay cut wasn't completed to keep him in KC.
