**** OFFICIAL 2017 NCAA TOURNAMENT THREAD ****

Did not see the official one anywhere in the first two pages on this forum.

Hopefully there'll be some good upsets....

Entertaining game between Mount St. Mary & New Orleans on the opening day of the tournament.

ChiliConCarnage 03-14-2017 06:07 PM

It's all NIT games on ESPN. Finally found this on trutv

kstater 03-14-2017 06:46 PM

Terrible play call. 50 50 ball at best, tjen you still have a prayer from half court. Why not inbound and run it up the court? 2.9 is enough time

I honestly thought they should have fouled. Give themselves more time than 2.9 seconds.

mr. tegu 03-14-2017 06:53 PM

Not fouling at the end was awful. Even if they make both free throws you get 20 seconds to extend the game or tie it with a three.

I agree. Was speaking more to the play call after that mistake

Good grief....

Let's hope K-State has a team left after all these fouls. Some of them are actually highly questionable.

And I thought the Big XII officials were bad.

The offensive foul at the end of the half on Ervin was all time bad. Most of the others were fouls that the team isnt adjusting to

Iwundu is good at basketball

K-State will probably blow it, if past end of game situations remains true.

NCAA shooting for 2.5 to 3 hours tournament games this year? F that.

Hey maybe they wont pee down their legs today

Iwundu is on some NBA draft boards. Imagine if he could shoot, like at all.

Big 12 1-0

Danny Mannings team sure doesn't play very good defense. Young team, if they can convince Colilns to come back they could make alot of noise next year.

KCCHIEFS27 03-14-2017 09:53 PM

Very beatable Cincy team for them now

Manning looks like a hurting unit. Hopefully he doesn't have something seriously wrong.

Pac 12 just got destroyed in the NIT. 1 seed Cal gets punked by Cal State Bakersfield. Utah loses to Boise State (apparently they have a basketball program too?). Going to be a long NCAA Tournament, or should I say short one for the West Coast Girlymen

Zing

Yikes. Cal actually looked decent the last couple times I watched them. I've been on the sprayer constantly so I've been listening to ESPN radio a lot and the PAC 12 has been getting a lot of love. I've seen UCLA several times and thought they looked and played slow. They have great size and Ball can pretty much do whatever he wants but they look to be susceptible to an energy team. That being said the energy was there when they lost to Arizona.

All in all I haven't been overly impressed with the PAC. Accordingly, Oregon, Arizona, or UCLA will now win it all since we talked about it LOL.

Zona, UCLA, and Oregon are fine teams. I think a lot of the hype comes from the league having possibly the first two picks in the draft. Utah, USC, Cal had decent seasons. I can't remember the bottom of a power 5 league being this bad which makes it a bit tough to judge.

Arizona St. went a so-so 7-11 in conference play. In the non-con, they lost in an unholy 115-69 massacre to Kentucky on a neutral court, by 30+ to Purdue on a neutral, and by 19 to N. Iowa which didn't even finish .500 for the year.

Washington has possibly the #1 pick in the NBA draft, won 9 games, ranks below Mizzou in kenpoms metrics. WSU ranks 20 spots lower. Oregon St. Started 2-0 and finished 5-27 LOL. Their non-con was rummies too, wtf. I've never seen anything that bad

Thanks. Hadn't followed the bottom of the conference.

crashcourse 03-15-2017 07:47 AM

best game we've played all year--nice to see the cats close one out. 69% shooting--helps when 3/4 of the shots are layups/dunks

hopefully bodes well for the big 12 an impressive opening game

ct 03-15-2017 11:37 AM

seems each year one of the First Four #11 seeds is pissed enough they knock off the 6 see in 1st round. maybe k-state is that team this year.

ct 03-15-2017 11:39 AM

i'm ready to see my shockers back up marshall's talk these last couple weeks. he's been pretty vocal of the seedings again. better back it up guys!

Can't decide if I wanna pick them against Kentucky or not. The Shockers have burned me every year except the year I picked them to beat my Jayhawks.

Everyone in the Pac 12 is all garbage, overrated teams. UCLA is going to get beat by Cincinnati.

Pac 12 is now 0-3 in the NIT. Colorado lost tonight ROFLROFLROFL

Now, USC is getting punked by Providence. Down 39-26 already. hahahahhaha. West Coast basketball is pillow soft.

Al Bundy 03-15-2017 08:30 PM

What an awesome win for UMKC, first post season win as a division one program.

I picked SD State to beat Gonzaga in two of my three brackets. I figure statistics say that a 16 seed has to eventually upset a 1. May as well try to bank on it hard this year. The Jacks are really good for a 16, and Gonzaga is probably weak as a 1.

KChiefs1 03-16-2017 12:28 PM

Notre Dame lucked out.

Luck of the Irish.

I don't really watch college basketball until the tournament, so in the pick em contest at our local bar I flip a coin. Heads, and the top team advances, tails, the bottom one does.

I've got only one top seed getting out of the first round, Villanova. ROFL They did go all the way on my sheet though. 5 bucks well spent. :)

Bearcat 03-16-2017 12:42 PM

LOL, foxsports... maybe wait until the 2nd half, at least. LMAO

RealSNR 03-16-2017 12:49 PM

I think Gonzaga has it figured out now. There will be no 16-seed upset this year.

lewdog 03-16-2017 02:56 PM

Gonzaga is always over-rated.

I wish people would start to figure that out.

displacedinMN 03-16-2017 03:27 PM

Lynch for Minnesota shitting his pants. 2 fouls in 9 seconds in first half. 10 seconds in in the second half-foul.

Minnesota not looking good. Two 5 Seeds have won. Odds are Minny as a 5 loses.

Fansy the Famous Bard 03-16-2017 03:29 PM

WVU wins against a good effort from Bucknell.

BigXII now 2-0

Big ten frauds on display. Minnesota looks like dogshit. Gonna get blown out.

They always overperform when they're a low seed and bomb when they're a high seed.

tk13 03-16-2017 04:36 PM

Vanderbilt just gave a foul to Northwestern up by 1 with 14 seconds left. Huge mistake. The player obviously thought they were trailing.

WilliamTheIrish 03-16-2017 04:37 PM

Big mistake by Vandy player no knowing the score, up 1, then inexplicably fouling the NW player. That's just a shame.

ChiliConCarnage 03-16-2017 04:37 PM

Spoiler!

Baby Lee 03-16-2017 05:09 PM

Glaringly biffed call in Xavier/MD game.

Shot clock violation doinked off backboard a foot wide of the rim, offensive rebound puts it in 2-3 seconds later.

tk13 03-16-2017 05:20 PM

Villanova off to a terrible start.

tk13 03-16-2017 05:24 PM

Nova finally scores a basket, over 6 minutes into the game.

ChiliConCarnage 03-16-2017 05:35 PM

Rough start but Novas righting the ship. Mt. St. Mary's looks pretty salty early

They struggle shooting though

Not as big of frauds as the Pac 12. But I guess everyone already knows the Pac 12 is garbage in the 1st place, so maybe we can't call them frauds after all.

ChiliConCarnage 03-16-2017 06:37 PM

VCU-St Marys half time keeps flipping from the score to Jeff Graves being blocked out by Melo. hah, wonder what made them go back that far for a photo

displacedinMN 03-16-2017 07:17 PM

I did not fill out a bracket this year.

ChiliConCarnage 03-16-2017 07:23 PM

St Marys started really struggling against the press. Then wrecked it for a while. Now their offense is barely functional against it again. Interesting

I want to know that guy's back story. Like, did he go to finishing school for horses? Maybe his parents were killed by a gopher hole?

Stop picking upsets. That is your problem. I'm not talking about 5 vs 12 or 11 vs 6, cuz those aren't really upsets anyway. But people that pick 7 seeds to the Final Four. How often does that work out?

There is this narrative that if you have your 4 year old pick the bracket, flip a coin, or pick based on colors only you would do better than someone who actually watches basketball. GTFO. No chance. If you did that, half your #1 and #2 seed would be gonzo by the end of the 1st day.
