Personal Moment of Pride

Never even thought about going to college when I was younger, but I just received this email after just wrapping up my Associate's:

I guess all of that hard work paid off. Back to the grindstone.

milkman 01-07-2017 06:40 PM

So does this mean you get a promotion at MickyD's?

That is the tough part. I graduated from my community college with a 3.89 GPA, but didn't do much extracurricular stuff. I kind of was looking forward to taking a semester off and resuming, but now that doesn't appear to be happening. Gotta turn it back on.

Great job...dont take a break, it can have a discouraging effect on your returning.

Yea, I can see how that would happen. It's a good thing my VA benefits end 2020. Need to wrap up my Bachelor's by then.

Fall. He's a senior in HS.

His destination will come down to best financial package. He's been accepted to Michigan, Ohio State, Illinois and Minnesota. Waiting on Maryland, Virginia, Wisconsin and Florida. He's a Florida boy who wants to go out of state, up north. He's crazy.

siberian khatru 01-07-2017 06:54 PM

We toured Maryland last summer. Very nice.

Wow! That is impressive. You must be proud as hell, congrats!

There is no way I would go North from FL, but he will see.

Thanks. He's going to major in astrophysics, which is way beyond my math skills. Florida is a good school and just 2 hours from us (our other son is at FSU), but he wants cold and snow. I've been giving him the weather reports from Minneapolis, etc this week. He thinks it sounds great.

He's nuts.

Simplicity 01-07-2017 07:01 PM

From a parent's perspective, I like orientations. Our tour at Maryland was one of the better ones. I liked the campus. College Park isn't much of a college town, but D.C. is just a hop skip and a jump away, and Baltimore's not far either.

scho63 01-07-2017 07:07 PM

Our company does work at U of MD for last 4 years. Not my client but they are a great account.

Yea, I would probably feel the same if it were either one of my kids, and it is convenient to have everything taken care of in one swoop. I just have a ton of work to do, and it will most likely eat up a ton of my day.

RunKC 01-07-2017 07:09 PM

Don't **** it up by getting a liberal arts degree

You're in NoVA, right?

With the amount they charge, they'd better be! $75 application fee, $400 commitment to enroll (does go towards tuition), and a mandatory $116 fee for orientation.

Thank God for the GI Bill!!

A minor in lesbian poetry from Macedonia would make you a more well-rounded person, though.

:hmmm: Valid point! Might have a discussion at orientation; it may, at least, make the process more entertaining.

Criminal Justice. I'm using it to augment my current profession as a Senior Manager of Loss Prevention

You're a Terp? Cool! And you'll be close to Washington DC, and you can have a HELL of a lot of fun there. Beautiful women everywhere too.

Spott 01-07-2017 08:13 PM

Congrats. I recently went back to school after not finishing my first time around and finished my Bachelors and am starting the Masters program at USF on Monday. Just stay focused and you can do it. :)

I'm excited to be one! It works out for my family and I to have been accepted there since we live close, already.

I just want the process over. I thought I knew what work was until I went to school, got paid on a salary basis, and had two step kids. Having one of those three situations finished would be inexplicably relieving. I'm praying it's the kids :fire::D (Now I'm going to hell)

Trust me, I have three years of free education. It's time to put up, or shut up.

patteeu 01-08-2017 01:06 AM

Congratulations. What did you think you wanted to do when you grew up before you started thinking about college?

Hog's Gone Fishin 01-08-2017 01:19 AM

You're wasting your time . There's lots of opportunity out there in the livestock masturbation industry just waiting for people like you. No education required.

C3HIEF3S 01-08-2017 02:19 AM

I joined the Army. I hadn't really invested much thought into after service.

More useful than this degree in Sanskrit from PCU.

Good luck over there! It's a nice but very big campus.

I'd be happy to meet up with you one of these days during a Chiefs game for a drink. I think there are at least 10-12 of us around the beltway within 30 minutes of DC in all directions to make it possible.

That would be awesome! Too bad the Skins are in KC this year. I went to the last one in DC and we spanked the hell out of them. 2013, I believe. Bowe and Charles lit it up. Let me know if you have any plans, and I'll see what I can do.
