**Night Crue ~ randomness**

Roll call where is everyone? What's everyone up too?

We've had these before so I'm hoping for a good run on the board

I thought I'd make one of these for the hell of it even if I'm the only one to conversation in it. I just switched to nights a month ago so my nights off I try to stay awake.

I'm trying to locate a $23K server I had shipped to Osted, Denmark but was actually shipped to Alleroed, Denmark and signed for. So, someone stole my server. Therefore, fully implementing my infrastructure on a global scale will be delayed as my clients Osted location will not be able to push software packages and security updates. So, my project will suffer a schedule delay, accompanied by a budget loss of $23K + labor to re-quote, PO and ship. On top of that, my project will go red and I will have a bunch of ****s up my ass until either the server is recovered, soon, or I submit a Change Request for the schedule and budget change. Yay me.

Cooking a new batch of meth too.

I'm establishing distribution points in 33 countries. One of those countries lacks their distribution point so that site will not have distribution point functionality and puts them at a security risk.

I must find said distribution point, or procure another. I'd prefer to not have to procure another.

My hours are 10:45pm to whenever they decide to let me go the **** home the next day. Could be 7am but not normally it turns into 11 or after noon. They can hold me up to 16 hours and that gets grueling. 6 nights in a row with getting mandated sucks.

The positive is the overtime the negative is exhaustion. I refused my mandate this morning I felt like shit.

Never seen it, myself. I am watching random episodes of The Office and Parks and Rec.

I finished the first season of HBO's Westworld yesterday, that was great. Wish there was another 2 or 3 seasons to binge watch.

It's easy work, but I'm really good at it and highly educated and trained. I am a Program Manager for Hewlett Packard, work from home (which is why I am doing this shit at 1:30am) with minimal supervision as long as my project stays green. Dough is commiserate to my profession.

My day is like this: Meetings over by 10:00am as my client, and resources, are global so most are done with their day by then. Then the rest of the day is mine. I work at my leisure really. I work into the morning because I'm a night owl and this is the time I can communicate with most of my team.

There's an old saying; some people live to work, some work to live. I am the former as long as I can work from home.

I won't go into an office ever again, if I can help it. Way less productive in an office environment.

Interesting. I am a night owl, always have been, but I think I will prefer an office setting once that time comes. Although, I would like to travel for work while I am young. I do have my entire life to sit my ass down in an office, but there are only so many years where I feel I will be able to travel freely without family or healthy obligations in my life.

What is your current project?

Setting up an SCCM network by upgrading their current SCCM version, hardware, and building completely new for one my clients corporate acquisitions. The basic architecture I build is two virtual servers, one in the US, the other in the UK. These servers push software "packages" and Microsoft security updates out to the 33 distribution points for a final push to each client (user PC). These servers are built to function as file and print as well. We will turn on that functionality as a different project.

Building the packages for the acquisition and upgrading all existing packages to the newer version is part of my project as well.

Yea man. Do that traveling while you are young. It's a young man's game anyway.

The reason I hate the office so much is because I smoke a lot of pot. All day. That won't fly in an office.

I have never been able to focus on productive things after I smoke, ever. I know many people who can, but I've never been able to. College is great for that, no shortage of shit to do or people to do shit with. OTOH, it's also bad for that because of the same reason. My current problem, and one that leads me to envisioning myself rather working in an office over working at home, is that I procrastinate too much. In an office setting (or semi-office setting if I can travel), I think that I would be able to focus better.
For example, I'll stay up all night to finish a paper or assignment that I could've finished at an earlier time. It doesn't bother me exactly, I will brew up a pot of coffee and have a grand time doing it, but it's a bad habit that I need to shed before I graduate college. LMAO

Hmmm.

I'm going to respectfully say no on this one. Bama has just not given me a reason this year to think that they're going to lose. Clemson is a very good team, and I would be thrilled to see them win, but I just don't know. I hope it's a good, competitive game. College football needs that over anything. I would prefer a low-medium scoring game and some positives for each team on both sides of the ball. I'd prefer Clemson to win to simply change the tune, and because I prefer cheering for the underdog.

Earthling 01-04-2017 03:14 AM

Andover is a small town outside Wichita. It is an anomaly in that it seems like 99% of the girls there are just knockout gorgeous. At least all the ones I saw that they let roam the streets. Kinda weird in a way...

Working from home does take some adjustment and it's not for everyone. Being able to do it is a great skill to have. Now, if I had a family I'd want to go into an office to get away from that for a bit. LOL. It works so well for me. Heck, sometimes I don't get out of bed till noon. Just pull the laptop over from the other side of the bed and join my first meeting. Usually naked. I've showered during meetings, had sex, napped through, drove cross country doing meeting for 7 hours, all kinds of shit.

Boy did they ever hand it to Ohio State. Jeesh.
The lack of competitiveness in the first two games was disappointing. The Bama-Washington game went about as expected, but Clemson and Ohio State? Holy shit. What a wreck.

We had a mini discussion in the college football thread on the future of the College Football Playoff. Some came to an agreement that the NCAA should expand the playoff to 8 teams, while some didn't. Personally, I am for an expansion to 8 in theory, but I don't know if the logistics with the extra game would work. My proposal was that the champion of each power-5 conference gets an automatic bid into the playoff to give weight to conference champions, while reserving three spots for wild card teams. That way, good wild card teams can still be seeded above, say, a weaker conference champion.

It was a thriller. Hell of a game to watch as a fan, yet irritating because KU cannot play a lick of defense at the moment. This is my first year at KU so I have never seen KU play K-State before, would've been cool to be there or working the game (marketing intern for the Athletic Dept.), but I am enjoying my time at home for break.

Sometimes I draw pictures or doodle at work when it's slow or sitting one/one watching someone sleep is boring AF. For those to understand I work at a mentally ill state hospital for the delusional and criminal insane. You really do have to be crazy to work there.

Here is one of those drawings.

Damn. I have ESPN on Roku as well as sat and I go there once in a while. It works fine for me and I haven't had to mess with cable for many years.

Maybe it's something I have to figure out but so far I've struggled with it.

I didn't try ESPN but I did try NFL network and CBS or NBC sports

Yeah ESPN should work. Good luck on that.

Do you know what you like to do? I didn't decide my major until way into college. Then it was just a general Business Management degree with a minor in Marketing.

It wasn't until I took that degree into the real world that I found what interested me and I felt I could add real value.

You should work on getting out of small town America. Your options will explode.

There is a cool drawing book out there in the ether called "Drawing on the Right Side of your Brain". You might like if you can find it. Challenging work you are doing.

For Google Chrome, I downloaded the Ad blocker pro extension. The best streaming website that I have used is:
http://www.wiz1.net/

Odd name, but trust me it works, with heavy emphasis on the use of ad blocker.

Yeah I switched to nights so I could hopefully avoid much of the drama during the day and I'd say for the most part it's better but I still get held over so I can't totally avoid it and nights depending on the unit cans still be nerve wracking.

There just isn't much you can do for some of those people and the part I work the most are some dangerous men but they are in the S.P.T.P and their there for a reason but I hate them. I so much hate them. They are manipulators and assholes, even if they act nice it's just an act.

Like what eDave said, first things first meditate on what interests you or fuels a passion. Even if it's preliminary, basic, or literally anything. Something that you love doing.

I'll use my situation as an example. I graduated high school with a terrible GPA, no direction in my life, and no idea what the hell interested me at the time. If it wasn't for my dad forcing me to go to school, I am not sure what would've happened to me. I believed that I didn't have any meaningful passions that I could use in college. Well, one thing that I didn't realize at the time was my love for analytics and data in general.

The one thing I didn't completely **** up in high school was that I was a pretty damn good hockey player, and was focused primarily on it after my grades went to shit. In addition to that, I was into stats, analytics, numbers, anything. I'd literally stay up all night looking at statistics for upcoming opponents and gameplan days, weeks ahead of time. It was something I was called crazy for at the time. I got laughed at for how seriously I took studying opponents statistics. Well, I eventually (2-3 years later now) realized that was my passion, and not just for sports. I want to go in business as well. Right now I am feeding my passion for sports by working in marketing with the KU athletic department, while also feeding my passion for analytics by having that as my major. I am in a good spot right now, but it wouldn't have been without realizing that I had a love for staying up all night scouting other high school hockey teams when I was 15-16 years old.

I am so pumped for this playoff game. Debating if I want to shell out money for tickets. Need to prioritize, but if I can find a couple buddies who are wanting to go.. it'd be hard to pass up. I've never seen a home playoff game at Arrowhead, but I am sure it'd be an awesome experience for the memory bank.

To me it is prioritize to go I just can't afford it. I want to do something special though.

My son and I have been kicking it together all season watching it at Apple Bees or anyplace we can. I've enjoyed this season primarily because my son has been asking me all kinds of football questions and asks about all the Chiefs greats I grew up with and I tell you what I am soaking it up as a father. He is 15.
