Congrats on a Great Year, the #2 Seed, and Looking Forward to Pats/Chiefs AFCCG

I just wanted to say congrats to the Chiefs on a great year. The stars really couldn't have aligned much better for the Pats and Chiefs to meet in the AFCCG this year. I'm sure you guys are rooting against the Pats in the divisional round so you get home field for the championship game, but I'm counting on seeing Pats/Chiefs in Foxboro on Sunday, January 22.

Reerun_KC 01-03-2017 01:09 PM

This team is steam rolling through the playoffs...

Yeah, really the only reason I would prefer NE lose is that it would be at Foxboro... but part of me wants us to take the hard route too, which means through NE. I don't want any excuses or * if we do indeed get it done this year.

If we make it to that game, it should be fantastic. I am really excited to see how Belichick will approach gameplanning for our offense because there isn't really just one guy who you can bracket (ala TY Hilton in the past).

I hope the game happens.

I would MUCH rather play Pittsburgh than KC if I was a Patriots fan.

KC presents more weapons all around offensively, a QB who can run, and a much better defense that can make game changing plays. Maybe they don't see it that way, but I sure would..

That doesn't work in the NFL dude. Its a matchup league. Not to mention they were coming off of a blowout loss against the Eagles, playing at home on SNF....

If you're using that logic, the Chiefs beat the Pats and Seahawks in 2014 while losing to the 2-14 Titans.

Actually I'll take Steelers over Chiefs. The usual "any given Sunday" applies, but Pats have completely owned the Steelers for 15 years to be honest. Ben/Bell/Brown are scary, but teams with no defense never beat the Pats.

The way the Pats lose is ALWAYS when the DL controls our OL and Brady has no time. That is basically the only formula for beating the Pats, and the Chiefs might have that formula with Ford/Houston, while the Steelers definitely do not.

Don't forget Chris Jones and Poe... I think interior pressure is as or more important against Brady than anything and Jones gives us that in a way we haven't had in recent years. NE seems to be protecting Brady pretty well though. How did they block against DEN?

So here's the deal with the Pats OL -- it is MUCH better in 2016 than it was in 2015. I won't go on and on, but here's the bottom line:

1. Marcus Cannon is one MILLION times better this year than last year. Proof: He allowed fewer QB pressures/sacks in ALL of 2016 than he did in the 2015 playoff game against Denver alone. And completely stoned Von Miller in 2016 as part of that.

2. Nate Solder (IR last year) is healthy and playing well at LT.

3. Young OL better this year.

4. Dante Scarnecchia is back, and has really improved the whole OL.

It's like night and day. We CAN run the ball. We CAN pass protect. Amazing but true!

Agreed. The most notable difference by far. Losing Gronk hurts less considering how solid that O-line has played. Brady gets all the attention, but his job has been made so much easier this year because that Pats O-line is legit.

No defense? Steelers had 10 more sacks than the Chiefs. #12 ranked D. (Chiefs #24)

That crazy old man is nails.

My favorite Scar story -- all NFL players and coaches must make themselves available to the media on Super Bowl media day so Scar -- who hates talking to reporters -- sits WAAAAY up in the nosebleed section of the stadium. Any reporter who wants to speak with him must pay the iron price of climbing all those steps.

Amnorix 01-03-2017 01:59 PM

My favor Scar fact -- he was once the interim Patriots head coach.....

....in 1992. After Dick MacPherson got sick the year before he was fired and the Pats hired Parcells.

I thought our DL would the deciding factor in last year's game and in a way, it was. They utterly failed us and no other group was able to pick up the slack. We missed some INTs and had the fumble by Davis go against us as well. If the DL can pressure Brady this time then maybe things turn out our way. I've seen the DL play really well this year and play like they don't really care. I've got the feeling Houston just won't be a factor in the playoffs again so our other guys need to step up big time.

The interesting thing, to me, is that KC played NE in almost the same environment last season. Sutton should have a basic idea of how McDaniels is going to attack KC. No Gronk this time adds a new twist as does having Houston healthy...Edleman is the guy that the Chiefs have to stop.

On the other side is where KC has the advantage...Maclin, Ware, West were all out. Chiefs didn't have Hill or Schwartz. Tyreek has opened up the other positions since he started scoring 60 yard TDs every game. Kelce setting records is because they have to account for Hill. Smith is running again because teams cant afford a spy. Defenses cant just double Maclin anymore. Its not a surprise that Connely had a good game against SD...

Bottom line is Hill was Reid's missing blue-chip piece to the puzzle....

This will be a great chess match between Andy and Belichick...if KC gets that far.

It is rigged...my post was based on a game where the refs/ NYC "command center"/profit have no determining influence. I still enjoy the strategic aspect of the sport...

I have no delusions in that the NFL would much rather have a Steelers/Patriots AFCC....we're talking 10's (if not 100's) of millions of dollars at stake.

We had no run game last year, and it's the Patriots. They never really do anything the same way twice. They "spin the dial" better than any NFL team. It's why they've been ridiculous for so damn long. That and Mr. GOAT of course.

Agreed that your offense is better. So is the Patriots defense ---- in theory. It seems better, it's statistically better, etc., but the quality of opponents has been lacking.

Will be a good game I think. One that the Pats should win, but not a slam dunk by any means I don't think.

Ne isn't going to the SB. Whoever wins the Pitt/KC game is SB bound.

The Chiefs are very unlikely to win at Foxboro. That is very clear in my mind. Im hoping for a good game though

I'm just hoping for a Brady career-ender in their first playoff game! Is that too much to ask for?

I'm trying to remember all of the injuries in last year's game.

Houston - out
Maclin - out

I know I'm missing a few others.

Not understanding the smiley face.

When was the last time the Pats played a SOS in the top 1/4 of the league? AFC East has been a joke for too long. The North is a tough division though with regards to the style of play. Lewis and Harbaugh are good coaches that just need a few more pieces. Pitt has that explosive offense, but coaching and consistency are issues.

It is a good thing the AFC WEST is competitive again. Both the Chiefs and Raiders earned their stripes this year playing tougher schedules than first anticipated. Battle tested. Here's to hoping the Steelers and Pats get roughed up somewhat before facing KC.
