Thanksgiving - how to you prepare your turkey

How do you make your turkey golden brown outside and soft and moist inside?

BlackBob usually sucks off his uncle and then ****s his turkey.

I see no reason to do anything but inject and fry ever again.

Faster, tastes better, juicier and if I really want stuffing, that's what they make Stovetop for (and besides, a proper grandma can make scratch stuffing with just the neck and gizzard bag you pull out of the center anyway...)

Roasting means dried out breasts, undercooked dark meat or salmonella stuffing. If you tent the breast you can help things a little but it's still just not as good.

Lonewolf Ed 11-21-2016 12:42 PM

Masterfully, I prepare my turkey masterfully.

WhawhaWhat 11-21-2016 12:50 PM

My Dad smokes a couple of turkey breasts every year and they are fantastic.

ToxSocks 11-21-2016 01:01 PM

Don't care about Turkey. However, when i DO do Turkey, i prepare a dry rub for it and bake it covered with strips of Bacon.

It's the Ham that steals the show any way. And I use a Citrus Rum Glaze for my Ham.

Just keep a temp probe in it and you should be ok, I keep the lid off for most of the cook unless it's really cold.

mikeyis4dcats. 11-21-2016 02:22 PM

I've smoked, baked, and deep friend. Prefer deep fried. Will be deep frying and also doing one sous vide this year.

How deep is deep friend? Like balls deep, or is that like deep girlfriend, so deep friend would be like 3/4?

Not sure if you're joking, but my father-in-law does this. Not kidding. It's not as bad as it sounds, surprisingly, but it can't compare with just about any other way of preparing it.

REDHOTGTO 11-21-2016 06:51 PM

Truthfully ? I smoke a huge ham butttttttt. If you really want turkey try this ..........
I smoke turkeys in a trader pellet grill upside down (breast down) fill cavity with sliced oranges and onions it tastes wonderful, I use head country seasoning on the outside after an olive oil rub. Keep a probe in it to monitor temp and let relax 30 min before carving, you will have the most moist breasts you can ever have and best flavor you ever stuck in yo mouth.

Looks like onion rings or curly fries (maybe both, actually) and Cheez-Its to me.

It's truly amazing. I really have no idea how it works as well as it does. But the turkey comes out crisp on the outside, and totally juicy on the inside. And it doesn't take all that much time to prepare it, or to actually do the cooking.

When we've had family over for Thanksgiving, I almost feel like I'm cheating. People go on and on about how it's the best turkey they ever had. And I've sort of gotten the reputation in our big, Mormon family as being something of a turkey whisperer. :)

Just get one. You won't be sorry.

RockChalk 11-18-2018 03:22 PM

Smoking a turkey again this year, like I do every year. However; I'm pretty sure there was an injection recipe on here a few years ago that I cannot seem to find. The injection contained cream of chicken soup and a few other ingredients, heated up on a stove, then injected into the turkey (or chicken) prior to smoking.

Does this ring a bell to anyone on here?

SuperBowl4 11-18-2018 03:30 PM

We go to SUBWAY on Thanksgiving eve and get our Turkey foot longs like we do every year

dlphg9 11-18-2018 04:31 PM

Suck it and **** it

frozenchief 11-18-2018 04:41 PM

I’m cooking 2 geese this year. Rich and moist, goose is a far superior bird.

sd4chiefs 11-18-2018 04:52 PM

I take the family to the Walmart hot food bar.

Bump 11-18-2018 04:59 PM

nothing fancy, rub it with oil, inside and out and then put spices, herbs and onion in the inside of it. I tend to over cook these things because the thought of even slightly undercooked poultry makes me want to vomit.

Fire Me Boy! 11-18-2018 05:02 PM

Fried. Did it that way last year and probably won't ever go back.

Maine 11-18-2018 05:07 PM

Put it in the fireplace

Easy 6 11-18-2018 05:19 PM

Do whole chickens regularly, but have never tried my hand at a turkey

Guess I'd just treat it like an extra big chicken... lower and slower the better, with plenty of uncovered time to render the fat

In all seriousness if you bake or smoke your turkey and you're not brining it, then you are seriously missing out.

Brining makes the bird taste good, but the drippings inedible.

MVChiefFan 11-18-2018 08:11 PM

I’m surprised this thread title wasn’t “This turkey was made brown and moist by you?”

How the hell do you brine a turkey? I don't have a pan that big. I looked at food grade 5 gal buckets but didn't want to drop that kind of coin.

I’ve smoked em, fried em, and brined and roasted them. I prefer brined and roasted. Least amount of mess, and IMO, the most moist and flavorful

Athis 11-18-2018 10:58 PM

I brine it and smoke it on the Weber off to one side with a tin foil shield. I save the drippings to make a Turkey and Sausage Gumbo over the weekend.

This will be the third year in a row for a Joe's KC turkey. They know how to cook/smoke WAY better than anyone else.
